00:00statements from Mexico to the United Nations Charter.
00:07Mexico defends its historic and consistent position in condemnation of the economic
00:14embargo against the people of Cuba that has been maintained for more than six decades,
00:21considering it to be contrary to international law and incompatible with the principles of
00:29the United Nations Charter.
00:34The economic embargo is a structural obstacle to the economic and social development of Cuba,
00:43with direct consequences for the well-being of its population.
00:50The shortages of food and medicines,
00:54limitations on access to basic services,
00:59liquidity and cash flow difficulties in the banking system and the energy crisis,
01:07demonstrate that its effects go beyond the economic sphere and have an impact on the daily lives of millions of
01:15people.
01:18No people should be forced to deal with these conditions as a result of unilateral coercive measures.
01:30Therefore, putting an end to the embargo is an urgent necessity and a humanitarian imperative.
01:43Mexico considers that dialogue, cooperation and respect for international law should prevail over measures
01:54which only worsen the difficulties of a population.
02:01Moving in this direction would not only benefit Cuba.
02:05It would also contribute to building a more prosperous hemisphere with greater solidarity rooted in justice, peace and understanding among
02:18nations.
02:21Mr. President, solidarity should be put into practice and not simply be limited to statements of principle.
02:32And in line with that conviction, my country has maintained its support for the Cuban people through tangible assistance,
02:41humanitarian assistance, humanitarian assistance initiatives.
02:44We reaffirm that international cooperation and mutual support among nations are essential in order to address shared challenges.
02:58And we firmly maintain that fraternity among our peoples does not depend on immediate circumstances or differences.
03:10Mexico maintains that the use of unilateral measures as a means of exerting external pressure to influence internal decisions within
03:22a sovereign state is incompatible with the principles enshrined in the charter of this organization
03:31and contravenes the spirit of peaceful coexistence among nations.
03:39In this vein, we reiterate our rejection of the imposition of unilateral sanctions outside of the measures adopted by the
03:51United Nations Security Council.
03:56In line with that position, we reiterate the importance of Cuba being removed from the list of state sponsors of
04:08terrorism of the United States.
04:13Because their inclusion on that list imposes additional barriers to their financial transactions and international commercial exchanges.
04:24The current circumstances require prioritizing dialogue channels, channels for mutual understanding and international cooperation.
04:36Eliminating the obstacles to the full participation of Cuba in the international community would make a contribution to strengthening a
04:50multilateral order that is rooted in respect for international law and in the purposes and principles of the United Nations
05:00charter.
05:01Thank you very much.
