00:04This might look like an ordinary toilet, but it's not.
00:07This is what the South Korean designer of the device calls the BV Toilet,
00:11a futuristic commode that turns poo into power.
00:14The toilet was designed by environmental engineering professor Cho Jaewon
00:17at the Olsun National Institute of Science and Technology.
00:20Here's how it works.
00:21Rather than using water, the device uses a vacuum to suck the poo into an underground tank.
00:26Once there, microorganisms turn it into methane gas, which can then be used as an energy source.
00:31Three of these toilets have been installed and are now powering a campus building at the university,
00:35which provides those who use the high-tech toilet a currency called Jigul, or honey in Korean,
00:40where they exchange their poo power for goods like coffee, fruit, or books on campus.
00:45Another novel idea.
00:46According to Cho, the average person drops just over a pound of poo every day,
00:50which translates into about 50 liters of methane gas after the microorganisms do their thing.
00:55that we think just kind of thought about 100 liters of
00:57All right.
00:59Here we go.
01:00You're not going to get talk about 60 liters of the wareân asshole.
