00:03you've likely seen simulations of our solar system even our galaxy the Milky Way or clusters
00:08of galaxies and nebulas however you've never seen anything like this a first-ever supercomputer
00:14simulation of the entire universe the simulation was conducted using 9,000 computing nodes of the
00:20frontier supercomputer at Oak Ridge National Laboratory the results are staggering in their
00:25cosmic beauty but this isn't just for show physicists say this could help us better understand
00:30the elusive dark matter the universe is comprised of atomic matter or all of the conventional matter
00:35we have investigated so far and dark matter dark matter is still yet to be confirmed but it is
00:40likely responsible for all of the gravitational interactions in the universe that cannot be
00:44attributed to the mass of atomic matter the simulation called exosky not only effectively
00:49simulates the physical space of the universe but also provides a look through space-time each section
00:54a snapshot of billions of years of expansion that's why this simulation is just the first step with
00:59the researchers saying the first section they're investigating represents a volume of space which
01:03measures over three hundred and eleven thousand cubic mega parsecs or what they add is just point zero
01:09zero one percent of the volume of the supercomputers entire simulation
