there is a man selling ice at the dock. Six scenes, maybe seven. He says the same sentence every time: rough water coming.

Nobody answers him. He is scenery, the way a buoy is scenery.

Then in the last third he says it again and one word has changed — past tense. Rough water came. Same tone, same flat delivery, and the whole story tilts.

The show never gives him a name or a backstory, and never explains why he knew first. He did not know. He just said the true thing at a volume nobody had to react to.

That is the neatest trick here. The most reliable witness in the family is a man with a cart.

✨ What worked for me:
- Five identical lines. One tense shift.
- He is never rewarded for being right.

✨ Bottom line: the chorus in this story sells ice.

Did you notice him on the first watch?
