Kurt Warner critiqued Jayden Daniels saying that he could afford to be more aggressive. Chris Russell agrees with Warner, to an extent. While he would like Jayden Daniels to be more aggressive, he doesn't want that to turn into reckless QB play that results in more turnovers.

00:01Yeah, I think in certain games it is accurate to that, Dave, like that's the kind of the blessing and
00:08the curse of when do I scramble, when do I move out, when do I go.
00:10And so I think those are like fair comparisons, like when you see a window like, hey man, this is
00:17the time to go, let it rip.
00:18One of the things I appreciate from Jay is like he puts the ball in the right location when it's
00:22contested or when it's not.
00:23And certainly on some of the deep ball shots, I think that's one of the sweet spots for him in
00:30terms of where he can throw.
00:36All right, that's head coach Dan Quinn yesterday when asked basically about the Kurt Warner comments and all that.
00:46Listen, on a scale of one to ten, and there is no scale, there is no one to ten.
00:52I'm making this up.
00:54It's hypothetical.
00:56On the scale of one to ten of aggressiveness from my quarterback, I would say Jaden Daniels is probably about
01:04a six and a half.
01:07I would say that.
01:08And I feel pretty comfortable about that.
01:11I don't ever look at him as being a, oh man, wow, he made this really, really thread the needle
01:21type throw.
01:23Or this really dangerous throw.
01:28There's been pinpoint accuracy at times on deep throws, intermediate throws.
01:38Throws that you didn't think he could make.
01:40Like, remember the one to De'Ami in Detroit in the playoff game?
01:46Down and around the five-yard line?
01:48I mean, just a majestic throw?
01:53Obviously the one to Terry week three, Monday Night Football, in his rookie year?
01:59All of that.
02:03But on a scale of one to ten, which doesn't exist, again, hypothetical, I would say Jaden Daniels, for me,
02:09is like a six and a half on the scale of aggression.
02:13Anthony, I don't know if your number would differ much more than that before I make my next point.
02:22But on a scale of one to ten, again, figurative scale, aggressive quarterback scale, what would you say Jaden is
02:29for you?
02:31I would say if we're going based off this season alone, because I feel like the 2024 season, and you
02:37just highlighted a couple of plays where he had, like, big-time throws.
02:42Like, this year so far, he's only had two big-time throws.
02:45Right.
02:46His rookie season, he had 20.
02:48Right.
02:48So, and, like, you can pinpoint, like, different games.
02:51You could talk about the Jamison Crowder back in the end zone against the Eagles.
02:54You could talk about, you know, the one to Terry against the Bengals, like you just said.
03:01Like, there are so many games.
03:02The one to Terry against Dallas late November at home, that key to comeback when they were dead.
03:09Now, they ultimately lost the game, but those kind of throws.
03:12Yeah.
03:12So, like, if you're going based off, like, this season alone, I mean, I can agree, like, a six, seven.
03:20Six, seven.
03:22Yeah.
03:23Six, seven.
03:24Somewhere around there, I think that's fair because, again, there have been times, windows, where, like, he's – well, where
03:31we see it, that he could go.
03:34And I'm not sure if it's, like, more so him being risk-averse or him not seeing the actual pass
03:39catchers wide open.
03:40I think the Antonio Williams one, where he should have been working towards the bunch, he's looking right the entire
03:46time.
03:46Well, that was on the fourth down.
03:47This play that Kurt Warner –
03:50Yeah, I know which one you're talking about.
03:51Was before that.
03:52Yeah.
03:52Right?
03:53And he missed it.
03:55Now, again, I think what we don't know is what is the design progression?
04:00Is it low to high?
04:02Is it flat corner post?
04:05Yeah, but is he seeing that?
04:07Like, did he see that post?
04:08That's the other thing.
04:09That I don't know.
04:10Yeah.
04:10Right?
04:11We don't know that, and we don't know what the design progression was.
04:14Yeah.
04:15Okay?
04:15I love your point about how – and inadvertently I made that point kind of sort of as well,
04:22but you're absolutely right.
04:24In 2024, now this is with a totally healthy Terry McLaurin and a totally healthy Jaden Daniels until mid-November.
04:34He was – I don't want to say really aggressive, but he was – what I would qualify as aggressive.
04:44This year it does feel – what did you say?
04:47Two big-time throws, but only two turnover-worthy throws, right?
04:51Yeah, only two turnover-worthy.
04:52For those that live by the analytics amigos, that's not a lot on either side.
04:57So I think if I have him at a 6.5, say, for this year, maybe I would say for
05:07his career, balancing it all out in my mind with no way to prove this,
05:11I'd probably say a 7, maybe a 7.5, but I would say for me, the key point that I
05:22wanted to make, this year,
05:28his number one job at this point is to stay healthy, one, two, to not put the defense or the
05:39commanders in bad position.
05:42Yes, it's to score points, and yes, it's to move the football, and yes, yes, and yes.
05:50His number one job, I believe, is to not expose this defense anymore,
05:56not give the opponent the ball in scoring territory, not completely lose momentum, right?
06:06You throw a pick in the 4th and 2 spot, right?
06:11If they would have thrown the pick there, yeah, that would have sucked, but it's still 13-3.
06:19It's still the first half, and you live with that, man.
06:24You went for it on 4th and 2.
06:26It's not like it was 1st and 2, you know, or 1st and 5 or 1st and 10.
06:30You live with that.
06:33My thing is, if he's a 6.5 like this year, and I didn't think about breaking it up year
06:38to year,
06:39but it's a good point, so maybe 6.5 this year, maybe a 7, 7.5 at max cumulatively,
06:47I would say I only need Jaden Daniels to turn it up a hair, a notch.
06:52Like, if he's 6.5 now, 7.
06:56If he's 7, 7.5.
06:58If he's 7.5, 8.
07:00Like, I don't need him.
07:03There's a huge difference between being aggressive and reckless.
07:07I think so many coaches, including Dan Quinn at times, are reckless.
07:12Dan Campbell, Ben Johnson, they're all reckless at times.
07:16They're aggressive, but they're reckless.
07:18I don't need my quarterback.
07:19I don't want my quarterback to be reckless.
07:23I want him to be semi-aggressive.
07:26I don't want him to be reckless.
07:28And that's a fine line.
07:30I don't think Jaden is reckless really ever.
07:36And me, being a more conservative kind of philosophy when it comes to taking risk,
07:44whether it's in my personal life with money or whatever decisions I make,
07:51I'm a more conservative, and that doesn't mean political,
07:55a more conservative operator.
07:57I'm fine with Jaden being more conservative, less aggressive,
08:03because more aggressive means more risk.
08:07A lot more risk.
08:09Especially if you're bordering on more reckless than aggressive.
08:15And again, there's a fine line there.
08:17There's a fine line.
08:18And that would be the point that I think Kurt Warner wants him to be closer to that line.
08:26And I get what he's saying.
08:29But I think it's a lot easier to do that when you play for Mike Martz
08:34and you have Marshall Falk, Isaac Bruce, Torrey Holt, and all of those guys.
08:39I think it's a lot easier to do that.
08:42When Kurt Warner was playing, and I know he played elsewhere, Arizona,
08:47and obviously the Giants and so on.
08:48But I'm just saying, I think it's easier to do that when you're in that situation
08:53as opposed to Jaden Daniels' situation.
08:56Yeah, I mean, I would agree as well.
09:00I think another thing to highlight when it comes to Jaden and his aggression
09:06or lack thereof, his yards per pass attempt is only at 6.54.
09:14And I think that can say a lot because he's not working the intermediate.
09:19And I think that's one of the things that I would like to see him do a little bit more.
09:23A pass between the numbers, over the middle.
09:26And I know two years ago when we played the Eagles,
09:29a couple of his interceptions were over the middle where he either one was too high.
09:35The one on the Thursday night.
09:36Exactly.
09:37I mean, his career yards per attempt is 7.1, but to your point this year, it's 6.5.
09:42Yeah.
09:43So, yeah, that would be my only real critique.
09:45But I think I'm in the same line of thinking as you.
09:50I don't mind him playing and being a little bit conservative.
09:54Sometimes I do want him to be a little gutsy, but I'm more so.
09:58I would always lean the more conservative side.
10:02All right.
10:02We've got to take a break.
10:03But the question for you guys at 301-230-0980,
10:06are you okay with Jaden being a little bit cautious,
10:09a little bit less aggressive in lieu of turning the ball over,
10:13or do you want him to be more aggressive?
10:15Where is that line for you?
10:17And again, it's probably different for everyone.
