00:00On the shores of Benin's Lake Toho, models showcase the creations of the Apusome collection.
00:09It features indigo fabrics inspired by the marine world and crafted by Beninese artisans.
00:18For designer Nadia Adanle, indigo is a medium for creation, memory and cultural transmission.
00:26Our goal is to promote this fabric and revive it from its state of neglect.
00:33Today, continuing with the same approach, we're focusing on the quality of what we offer.
00:40Then we're working on enhancing the product's prestigious image.
00:44Finally, we're as creative as we possibly can be.
00:50The collection's different patterns are all inspired by the seabed
00:55and feature motifs including fish, octopus, jellyfish, turtles and coral.
01:02Each motif carries a specific symbolic meaning.
01:07There's one motif we've called philemie, remember me.
01:11In drawing inspiration from the seabed, we looked specifically to the Atlantic Ocean.
01:16The Atlantic is the world's largest graveyard.
01:20I decided that since those perished there have no graves, they should at least have a fabric that remembers them.
01:28Indigo Village is a showcase for the entire indigo process, from preparing raw materials and dyeing, to crafting textiles and
01:38creating finished products.
01:40It also serves as a platform for promoting cultural and artistic tourism in Ouida.
01:49I believe Nadia is developing one of Benin's most precious assets, a true gem for its cultural and creative tourism
01:59sector.
02:01The momentum will continue through November with the fifth edition of the African Indigo Symposium,
02:08centered on the theme Indigo and Plural Arts, performative dialogue and hybrid practices.
02:15.
