00:01The Philippine Peso falls to a record low of 64 pesos and 17 centavos against the U.S. dollar.
00:08The Teduray and Lambangian communities in the Bangsamoro region win recognition of their ancestral land.
00:14Manivilliar's Vista Land and Landscapes reports a 59% drop in net income for 2025.
00:20Israel Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu faces a fight for political survival in the country's election.
00:26And Filipino-Canadian voice actor Eric Bauza passes away.
00:38The Philippine Peso falls to a record low of 64 pesos and 17 centavos against the U.S. dollar
00:44despite aggressive interest rate hikes by the Banco Central ng Pilipinas.
00:48This is weaker by 22 centavos from its previous record low finish of 63 pesos and 95 centavos on Monday,
00:55October 26.
00:56The historic depreciation comes just days after the BSP delivered a jumbo, larger-than-expected, 50 basis point rate hike
01:03on October 22.
01:05The hike brings its key policy rate to 5.50% as inflationary pressures continue to mount.
01:11Despite the peso's continued slide, BSP Governor Eli Remolona Jr. maintains the central bank will not defend the currency at
01:18any particular level.
01:19A weaker peso makes dollar-denominated imports, such as oil, more expensive for Filipino consumers and businesses,
01:26potentially adding to already elevated inflation.
01:30The Tedurai and Lambangian indigenous communities in the Bangsamoro region achieve formal recognition of 117,101 hectares of ancestral land.
01:40This after over two decades of legal struggles, culminating in the issuance of a Certificate of Ancestral Domain Title, or
01:46CADT.
01:48The recognition highlights the need to protect ancestral lands for future generations.
01:52Community leaders called for unity and responsible stewardship to address issues such as unauthorized land transactions and resource management.
01:59The Constitution and the Indigenous Peoples' Rights Act protect indigenous communities' collective rights to ancestral lands for present and future
02:07generations.
02:08A CADT formally recognizes these rights.
02:12Ancestral domains generally cannot be sold to outsiders, and development projects require the affected communities' free, prior, and informed consent.
02:20These lands are collectively owned by the communities.
02:24Billionaire Manny Villar's Vistaland and Lifescapes reports a 59% drop in net income for 2025,
02:31a steep drop amid soaring financing costs and provisions for potentially uncollectible receivables.
02:37Its net income plunged to 3.8 billion pesos from 9.37 billion pesos in 2024.
02:42But the company leads its announcement with its EBITDA, which rose 6% to 24.2 billion pesos from 22
02:49.82 billion pesos, the company's target for the year.
02:53Unlike net income, EBITDA excludes interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortization.
02:59This means it can rise even as the bottom line falls if these expenses increase, such as when a company
03:04faces substantial borrowing costs.
03:06Vistaland also reports 35.8 billion pesos in consolidated revenue, but gross profit from its residential business fell 18%
03:14to 9.7 billion pesos.
03:17The company earlier explained the deterioration of its net income by saying its results, quote,
03:22reflect in part the recognition of interest expenses that were not capitalized into qualifying assets.
03:29Israel Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu faces a fight for political survival in the country's election on Tuesday, October 27.
03:37Voters weigh his leadership after the 2023 Hamas-led attacks, the wars in Gaza and on Iran, as well as
03:43Israel's deepening international isolation.
03:46Opinion polls show a close race between Netanyahu's Likud party and its right-wing allies, and a rival alliance led
03:52by Gadi Eisenkot.
03:54Eisenkot is a former military chief of staff and security hawk, with backers on the right and in the center.
04:00Netanyahu banks on his wartime leadership and his alliance with U.S. President Donald Trump, who endorsed him and joined
04:05Israel in waging war on Iran.
04:07Netanyahu said on Sunday that Trump was prepared to act again to finally remove the Iranian threat, but only if
04:13Netanyahu remained in power.
04:15Eisenkot accuses Netanyahu of relying on a campaign of fear-mongering, lies, and threats,
04:20and says he was confident Trump would work in full cooperation with any leader chosen by the people.
04:27Filipino-Canadian voice actor Eric Bauza passed away on October 25 at the age of 46.
04:33He is best known for voicing iconic Looney Tunes characters Bugs Bunny and Daffy Duck.
04:38His family referred to his passing as Sudden.
