00:04uh to quote desi arnaz and i love lucy coach you got some splainin to do
00:12lost lost to indiana 13 to 6. how are you coming out of this weekend well another tough loss um
00:21you know it seems what i haven't seen every single game except for one has come down to the last
00:25play
00:26or last possession uh this week was no different um the disappointing thing is uh well the most
00:33disappointing thing is we had the game in our hands we had the ball inside the 10 yard line going
00:37in
00:37with like a minute left and and uh you know had the opportunity right there to put the game away
00:43and
00:43and uh we didn't do it you know we were we we failed we ended up having to kick the
00:48field goal
00:48and by the way we were over four in the red zone uh you know as far as touchdown percentage
00:53which
00:53can't happen you gotta you gotta be much better than that obviously but uh to take the number
00:58six team in the country all the way down to the wire a little chance like that and not
01:02not convert is uh it's painful but uh you know some positives coming out of the game and our defense
01:08continues to play at an elite level a week in and week out and uh this past week was no
01:14different
01:16um you know we we hadn't didn't have much going for us on offense we we couldn't run the ball
01:21effectively we didn't throw effectively we weren't good on third down we weren't good in the red zone
01:25we turned the ball over a couple times i mean there was uh so many things that uh we just
01:30weren't
01:30very efficient at now the defense of indiana is a top 10 defense you know they're they're very similar
01:36to us and and so got to give them credit we can't just just uh ignore that because they're they're
01:42a
01:42very good football team and in particularly on defense and uh they did a nice job they won the
01:48turnover margin again you know we it's another week for us of not winning the turnover margin
01:52which has been very damaging this season and so you got to regroup pick yourself up pick yourself
01:58up off the mat uh get ready for a road game and and keep swinging i mean that's all there
02:03is to it i
02:03mean you can't can't lick your wounds and feel sorry for yourself and yeah because nobody else does
02:08and so you got to be ready to compete this uh upcoming game and this week and we will be
02:13the
02:13guys will the guys will respond well keep it a positive as you mentioned the defense
02:18did you know that they uh held all their opponents all the games together all seven games
02:23have held the opponents to 16.2 points or less that's that's simply amazing now if we could just
02:31turn that same positivity around to the offense we'd have ourselves a championship yeah we're a few
02:38away from undefeated or at least uh you know what six and one i mean we're but shoulda woulda coulda
02:44you can't you know there's you just can't you can't go that route and but the reality is we're not
02:51losing games you know three four touchdowns just getting blown out at all i mean we're competing with
02:56everybody but but you don't want to just compete that's not what you're in it for you know you know
03:00obviously it's a bottom line business and you got to win games and that's really ultimately all
03:05anybody cares about and really all they should care about i guess in reality indiana coach our
03:10coach our quarterback josh hoover uh man he's he was throwing the ball and the receivers they had
03:18were just incredible they were like jumping 20 feet up in the air to catch some of these balls and
03:23then
03:23they went to more of a running game but uh again going on it in fourth and two um uh
03:29you got indiana
03:30to jump off sides which was i was just laughing hysterically but uh let's talk about uh both teams
03:37having kicking problems this week both indiana yeah we were two for four in field goals and had
03:44we converted uh either one of those now one was lengthy it was uh you know end of the first
03:49half
03:50and uh we weren't even sure we were going to go for a field goal at that point we called
03:53time out
03:54with 20 something seconds left now if we if we knew we were going to kick it right out of
03:57the you know
03:58no matter what we would have waited for you know that clock to tick down to a couple seconds but
04:02we had an inclination that maybe we'd go for it it was fourth and 15 or so and uh we
04:07hadn't really
04:08decided uh which direction we were going to go it was a little out of our kicker's range and there
04:12was
04:12just a slight wind in his face just you know a couple miles an hour is all but but that's
04:17what we
04:17call time out with 20 plus seconds left instead of widening it down and uh i felt confident that uh
04:23had
04:23we gone for it and not made it uh or if we had missed the field our defense was going
04:27to hold
04:28up anyways and so uh what we did is called time out so in the event we did go for
04:32it and did convert
04:33we still have some time left on the clock to to maybe engineer a touchdown but but as it turned
04:38out
04:39we missed the kick and as it turned out our defense held just like we had hoped and they came
04:43away with
04:44nothing as well and so that was the sequence uh there at the end of the first half i'm sure
04:48you had
04:48a chance to look at all the stats from saturday but did you notice something in the column of
04:53penalties being down there you go one penalty for 15 yards and that penalty was questionable and we
05:00sent that into the league and we're looking for an explanation on how in the heck that was uh roughing
05:06the passer but i'm sure we'll we'll get a good answer as to why and teach us how to coach
05:10it better and
05:11and uh so that one penalty that we did have was was in question and we'll see what the uh
05:17what the
05:17response is but i don't think we're allowed to talk about the response so i can't i'll never i'll
05:22never divulge that but what we do is turn those in every week so we can have a chance to
05:27coach them
05:27better and understand what the refs are exactly looking for and then explain to our guys okay this
05:32comes up again here's how you handle it uh second half red zone fourth and inches uh let's talk about
05:38utilizing both quarterbacks that was unique it was and we wanted to uh you know we we've done that in
05:46the
05:46past at uh in situations uh not this year but in years previous where we had two uh quarterbacks
05:53that we put on the field at the same time and try to gain a little bit of a an
05:57advantage with that uh
05:58you know the uncertainty of first of all who's going to take the snap and then you know what you're
06:02going to do with uh with the other quarterback so it's not something you make a living at but it's
06:06something that you put in there to give the defense a different look and see how they react
06:10i think it confuses the heck out of them so good job some of them it does some it does
06:15some don't
06:16miss a beat and don't care but but uh yeah and and you know if you if you look at
06:20the game you know
06:22if you say okay what was the one biggest issue way to win the game it's we were over four
06:27in the red
06:27zone you know we couldn't couldn't muster a touchdown any of the four times we got in there and
06:31had we we we win we win the game you know and but we didn't so well second half also
06:38and stuff the
06:39defense seemed to get a rest for a while because uh yeah uh you had uh some good uh possession
06:45uh
06:46with the offense in the second half good drives it's just finishing was uh the problem finishing
06:53is the operative word there and and uh we've had that opportunity every game this season except one
06:58and we've finished uh the right way a few times and we haven't finished the right way a few times
07:02and so that's something that's always a point of emphasis is finishing the finishing the game
07:06finishing a drive as the case may be and and i believe we won the time of possession in this
07:11game
07:11and that first drive in the third quarter was uh about an eight minute drive right out of the gate
07:16there and unfortunately it ended a field goal rather than a touchdown that was another time that we're
07:21inside the tent in fact i think we're on the one yard line uh before we had to settle for
07:26a field
07:26goal but but anyway name of the game is is scoring points in the red zone and and touchdowns are
07:31so
07:32much more valuable obviously than field goals and even more so from an analytical standpoint i mean
07:37it's just uh really no comparison between field goal and touchdown and we're not doing a good enough
07:41job scoring touchdowns in the red zone now also uh media giving you uh guff for some of the uh
07:47play call i get guff for everything so that doesn't bother me bring on the guff the guff was uh
07:52chase in fact uh play calling uh but in the press conference i noticed one thing uh you took
07:59responsibility for it and said it's on me sure yep absolutely everything the program's on me there's
08:05not one aspect not one facet not one detail in the program that's not ultimately my responsibility
08:11and uh i can explain you give me a situation i'll explain why it is my responsibility every single time
08:16and that is without exception and uh so yeah i'll i'll take all the blame i'll shoulder it all and
08:23and uh there you go well michigan on the road it's also a game uh halloween in new joise against
08:31rutgers
08:32um that's uh what you got looking forward for that well uh you know we've only had one road trip
08:39oddly
08:39enough this is week what nine of the season we had seven weeks seven games in a bye week so
08:44going into the
08:45ninth week we've been on the road one time that's that's unheard of and and uh now we got to
08:49go
08:49three of the next five weeks on the road so it's somewhat evens out but our team has uh got
08:55to be
08:55ready to go play on the road um i've never been to rutgers i've never been in that stadium i
08:59understand
09:00that it holds about 40 000 or slightly above that and and uh you know they're struggling this year as
09:06well and and have uh not had the season they were hoping to uh i can tell you right now
09:11they got a
09:11receiver that is off the charts good i mean this guy is is uh tremendous jersey number eight about
09:18six six 225 pounds he looks like uh megatron you know that type of receiver out there and so we'll
09:24have our hands full with that guy he is a real guy now the one question on everybody's mind since
09:29it is
09:30a halloween game who's passing out candy at your house while you're gone nobody me and my wife will be
09:36on the road uh it'll be uh boarded up and and uh unfortunately we hate to do that but sorry
09:42kids
09:43we no candy at our house this year uh here's one a favorite halloween costume as a kid that you
09:49remember wow i would say one year my mom dressed me up as this roman soldier and it was the
09:54coolest
09:55outfit ever i had these these sandals and this toga robe thing and a sword back when you could carry
10:00weapons at halloween i don't know if you can carry the weapons anymore at halloween the politically
10:04correct people have a real issue with that but but uh being a roman soldier was uh my most vivid
10:10memory i think it was probably about seven years old seven or eight years old well it wasn't a usc
10:15trojan uh it was very similar tommy trojan it looked just like tommy trojan so well hopefully it's not
10:24going to be a scary uh time for you in new jersey and uh let's hope you come back with
