The opposition INDIA bloc is planning to organize a mock parliament at the Ashoka Hotel in New Delhi on October 30. During the event, proceedings will be held to symbolically pass a motion for the impeachment of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. All constituent parties of the bloc are expected to participate. The move aims to project opposition unity and send a message alleging that the Chief Election Commissioner is not functioning in accordance with the Constitution. In parallel, opposition parties are also preparing an actual impeachment notice to be moved in Parliament. The draft notice is currently being circulated among members of Parliament, requiring signatures from 100 Lok Sabha members and 50 Rajya Sabha members to be submitted to the respective secretariats ahead of the upcoming parliamentary session.

00:00And we open the bulletin with big breaking news coming in.
00:03It seems on October 30th, the India Bloc is planning to organize a mock parliament at the Ashoka Hotel in
00:12New Delhi.
00:13Now, during this event, proceedings will be held to pass a motion for the impeachment of the Chief Election Commissioner
00:21or the CEC, Gyanesh Kumar.
00:22All constituent parties of the India Bloc are believed to be participating in this event.
00:30It is a mock parliament that will be held in a hotel in Delhi, which is Ashoka Hotel.
00:36What is exactly the purpose of this event is something that we will be telling you very soon.
00:42But it is a mock parliament, as we know of now on October 30th.
00:47Joining us now is India Today's Rahul Gautam.
00:49Rahul, this is apparently they are going to pass proceedings to, you know, hold proceedings to pass a motion against
00:58the CEC impeachment.
00:59Now, how does this really work?
01:01What is the requirement of such a mock parliament?
01:04If they are already working on an impeachment motion in the real parliament, what is the purpose of this mock
01:10parliament?
01:12Well, you know, basically, there are two objectives to this entire exercise A.
01:19You know, sources are telling us that by symbolically impeaching CEC, the opposition wants to send out a message that
01:28the Chief Election Commissioner is not functioning as per the constitution and therefore he should go.
01:34So, it is also an attempt on their part to send a message that we are trying to, you know,
01:41impeach CEC, but the Lok Sabha and other Sabha secretariat are creating a hurdle.
01:48Government is creating a hurdle, but therefore they are resorting to such an exercise.
01:53And the other part is obviously to cry, you know, to create a narrative that the opposition is holding guilty
02:03of CEC, of allegedly compromising the election machinery in the country at the behest of the ruling party.
02:11And therefore, it's on their attempt to actually discredit him, you know, in the eyes of public.
02:18So, in a way, you can describe this as a political move aiming at discrediting the Chief Election Commissioner and
02:25obviously to send out a strong political message that the entire opposition bloc is united on this issue.
02:31This has become a sort of rallying point, which has become a sort of rallying point, which is bringing parties
02:35together.
02:35We have seen last time also, you know, a non-NDA, non-UPA political party, BJD, had joined this growing
02:44chorus of opposition to, you know, to get CEC removed.
02:48So, obviously, they are trying to send out a message that the entire opposition is united, you know, on this
02:55issue.
02:55And obviously, that is to, in a way, discredit the very image of, or to embarrass the government, you can
03:03say, that's the whole intent of the opposition at this point of time, behind holding this exercise.
03:10Okay, Rahul, one may understand that there is an attempt to create a narrative, to build momentum.
03:15But what about the actual or the real motion of impeachment that the opposition was planning to move?
03:24What is the status of that?
03:28The opposition has already put in a record that they will be moving an impeachment motion against the Chief Election
03:36Commissioner.
03:37And, in fact, the process is already underway.
03:40The draft for the notice, which is yet to be submitted, is being circulated and it is being signed by
03:46Lok Sabha Rajasabha MPs.
03:49You need 100 Lok Sabha MPs and Tukir Rajasabha MPs to get the, you know, notice submitted by the Lok
03:56Sabha Rajasabha Secretariat.
03:57And we've been informed that once the session is going to commence, then the opposition is going to bring in
04:02an impeachment motion.
04:04You know, and we all know that the numbers are obviously in the favor of the NDA, but they would
04:10be doing this so, to create an impression that the opposition is just not impressed with the kind of functioning
04:17and the working of Mr. Ganesh Kumar.
04:21And in a way, obviously, this would also be to show the incumbent government in bad light.
04:27So, as we speak, the process is still underway.
04:30And in all likelihood, in the next session, the opposition is going to bring in an impeachment motion, which is
04:37most likely going to be defeated also, as the numbers are in favor of NDA only.
04:43Right. So, that is the status of the real impeachment motion that the government will be facing in case the
04:49opposition brings it to the real parliament.
04:51But in the midst of all this, it seems that the India Bloc has decided to organize a mock parliament.
04:56This is on the October 30th, that they want to hold a mock parliament in the Ashoka Hotel in Delhi
05:03area.
