00:00Keep inventing things, keep making it theirs.
00:03Someone will recognize it, and if it's not today, it'll be tomorrow.
00:07These are the words of Andy Walker, an influential British arcade games designer
00:11who has now become the subject of a project here at Canterbury Christchurch University.
00:15Where an exhibition of the comic The Pit is going on right now.
00:20Artist sibling duo Shantona Shantuna are the master students who are the artists behind the comic,
00:25which follows the creation of Andy's game The Pit.
00:27The exhibition is running as part of Canterbury Festival, and to mark the occasion,
00:31they held an opening event including talks from Andy Walker himself and Professor Alan Meads,
00:36whose book Arcade Britannia includes the chapter on Andy, of which the comic is based.
00:41It's a dream come true, it's almost like too good to be true.
00:44And I'm very honored that Andy could come and attend this event.
00:49No matter how much work I do, this will definitely make a different kind of impact in my life.
00:54And I've been working with this project for over a year now.
00:58It means a lot to me. I could do something for the country I love.
01:01It does tell a story, and it is that capture of your own thoughts, emotions.
01:09When you see it expressed on paper like this, it's a joy, isn't it? It's beautiful.
01:15I spoke to an attendee and former student of Professor Meads to find his thoughts on the artwork.
01:21Blown away. I mean, I like to think of myself as a bit of an artist,
01:25but seeing the work the comic book twins have done, it's just, it's incredible.
01:30I think what the comic book duo captures so well in the comic is really the energy and the kind
01:36of feel of the time.
01:37It's a really specific time where there were entrepreneurs like Andy Walker making things,
01:43where it's almost a bit like Only Fools and Horses versus the Sopranos versus kind of tech bro millionaires.
01:49It's a really interesting point.
01:51The exhibition will run until the end of October for those interested in seeing the comic for themselves.
