00:01Hello, how are you?
00:14Good afternoon everyone, we'll kick off with the usual as live and then into a 10.30 tonight.
00:22We'll kick off with Gary from Sky.
00:26Hello, Mikel. Can I talk about quads?
00:31Squads, you said.
00:32Quads.
00:33Ah, quads.
00:35Without the S.
00:36I get that.
00:38One of the squads is missing because of a quad.
00:43What's the latest number?
00:45He's got another MRI this afternoon because he had quite a lot of fluid in the area
00:49so it was difficult to understand the extent of the injury.
00:53But we'll know more probably tomorrow.
00:56From the early indications, taking on board what you said,
00:59there's obviously a vast difference between a Grade 1 and a Grade 3.
01:05Which one is it erring towards, do you think? Serious or not?
01:08Again, we need a few more scans and opinions from the specialists.
01:13Obviously when a player has to walk off the pitch, he's struggling to walk without any pain,
01:19he's restricted to movement, there are no good signs.
01:22So again, let's be a little bit patient so we can give a definitive assessment and then let you know.
01:30I don't want you to think that I'm some kind of Arsenal stalker but I saw Bucao driving into the
01:36training.
01:37Okay.
01:37He's also got an automatic so he's not using that left leg.
01:41Can we read anything into that or not?
01:42Well, he's not changing gear either. I'm happy that he can drive.
01:53Matt Starrman brings us on to that because obviously that's an option on the right.
01:58And I'm not just plucking it out of thin air.
02:02Obviously it was March at the Emirates against Everton and he burst onto the scene.
02:07I know he was around before that but that was when he really made people open their eyes.
02:11Are you romantic with Everton that only a good time to play in?
02:16Well, there is something inevitable.
02:19To go back to that memory and the feeling of the moment and that's with us.
02:27I've stayed in that stadium for a long, long time I think.
02:32He's training and every time he's got a moment to play he's showing that he's a play that is going
02:37to impact the game.
02:38So for sure he's going to have minutes.
02:40It would be a lovely episode of the soap opera, wouldn't it, a fairy story,
02:43if he started his first game of the emphasis season where he scored that goal in March?
02:49It's a great story, yeah. If we win the game especially.
02:53Epps, Ezzel obviously is going to be more important as well if Mikayo is out for some time.
02:58Who is that? Epps.
02:59Epps. They're all important. We know and I'm extremely happy how Epps reacted to the previous game
03:08and the impact I had in the team and the performance that he put in.
03:13With Declan, he obviously scored the other night. I think that's his first goal since March.
03:19You've spoken before about he wants to score more, you'd like him to score more.
03:22Is that the start of a point of view?
03:24Yeah, but it goes for the midfielders as well. Martin has already scored a few goals.
03:28Bruno has done the same. Declan has done the same.
03:31So that's what we need in relation to the position that they play on the day.
03:34That they have that licence and especially that aggression to penetrate and to damage the position.
03:40I saw that Durian got his 100 appearances shirt and a nice slap on the back from the rest of
03:48the players.
03:48And potentially 200 appearances for Ben White tomorrow.
03:53So that battle between the two of them warming up nicely.
03:56It's a contribution between the two of them and we are really lucky to have them both.
04:02I think the way they both started the season is really, really positive.
04:06They've given us so much and yeah, it's good numbers for them.
04:11Recently you referred to as the don of the Premier League, the boss, the king of the Premier League
04:16because obviously you're the Premier League champion.
04:18You've been at Arsenal now a long time.
04:21But where do you stand in terms of David Moyes?
04:24Is he the real king of the Premier League given the years he's been in the game?
04:27100 per cent. I don't know if he's the king or what it is,
04:32but he's certainly someone that I think we all look up to him.
04:37Not only for his longevity, I think for what he represents for the game,
04:43what he represents for the Premier League and yeah, his trajectory.
04:48And me especially because I know and I know the man behind the coach
04:52which is the most important thing.
04:53And then I really know as well the coach and he's a superb coach.
04:59I wanted to pick up on what Gary was saying about Max
05:04and get an idea of how rewarding it is for you to see young players
05:10develop and take those opportunities.
05:12You spoke about Max but I think another young player within the squad
05:16and how he came on against Bayern managed to have that control.
05:21So how rewarding is it for you to see them go on and show what they're capable of?
05:27Extremely fulfilling because when you as well personally have had this experience
05:32and this trust or belief by somebody, it's exactly what you need.
05:36But actually then you have to go out on the pitch and perform
05:40and prove that you belong to that level.
05:43And against Bayern I really like the way Max came in.
05:47I think the composure, the presence and the way he helped the team
05:51to establish in the final third and play with so much personality,
05:55it's another big step.
05:57You're synonymous with the phrase finishers
06:01and Arsenal has the most number of goals from substitutes coming off the bench.
06:06Do you feel really proud of how you've managed to get the team to that position
06:11where now if after 45 minutes you're not seeing what you like,
06:16you have such great options defending?
06:18Yeah, we have really good options because they are with the right mindset
06:23and I'm extremely proud of that, of the chemistry.
06:27I think the desire that we have created on the players that are starting
06:31and the players that are going to be critical to finish the game.
06:34And we had another big example the other day with Epps
06:37that he could have been really upset and I'm certain that he was
06:40because he was substituted the way around after 45 minutes
06:44but then he was ready to come immediately and have a huge impact on the team.
06:48And that's exactly what you need, otherwise you have a bench
06:51and they can be as good as you want but they want to give you what you need.
06:55Looking ahead to the game against Everton,
06:57they just suffered their first league defeat last time out.
07:01What do you feel their biggest threats are?
07:04A lot because I know David so well, the way he sets the team.
07:08Obviously the quality that they have in their organisation and individually
07:12it's not a coincidence that they didn't lose before the last game
07:16because they are a really good team.
07:18And we know that as well because in recent clash
07:20it's always been a really difficult match for us.
07:24Alex Pipsi.
07:25Just on Bakayo, are you concerned that he's maybe losing a bit of that robustness
07:30that you value so highly in being able to play all those games?
07:33Well, it's certainly been different in the last year or so.
07:37Obviously the demands that we are putting to every player are immense,
07:41the amount of games, the intensity of those matches.
07:45The international competitions.
07:47The times as well between games are getting narrower.
07:50So look at us now.
07:51We have to play on Sunday afternoon.
07:53We have to away.
07:54We have to play on Wednesday evening.
07:56Then we have to play on Saturday.
07:57So you go less than 66, 67 hours between games.
08:03On top of everything that we are putting.
08:06Every hour is important if they can support all the demands
08:11that we are putting to the players in that sense.
08:13That will be as well really appreciated from everybody.
08:16And I'm saying for every team as well.
08:18Because we know what we are demanding to those players.
08:20How much harder has that been for you to manage?
08:23Is that a newer thing you have to think about now?
08:25The schedule and the short turnarounds for players between games and squadron?
08:29For sure.
08:30And that's why we have to change them.
08:32And Bukaya against Lille did it at the start of the game.
08:34Because we knew what was happening.
08:36We have to play three times in less than six days.
08:38And especially when the games are so demanding.
08:42Until the last minute you are there.
08:43You are chasing the game.
08:44You want to win.
08:45And the necessity is to win every game.
08:47So, we know that.
08:49So, we are preparing the players for those scenarios.
08:52And we do the best that we possibly can.
08:56How are you?
08:57How are you?
08:58I think Bukaya is still only 25, isn't he?
09:01And yet he has played a lot for England.
09:03Obviously, we've played a lot of seasons for Arsenal.
09:06Is there a fear that he might end up being burnt out before 32, 33, 34?
09:13Which is normally when you'd expect someone to be able to play on to?
09:16I don't have that feeling at all.
09:18But certainly what we have to be very mindful of is to create the right ecosystem
09:24around the player to fulfil all his qualities.
09:27And we really need to understand now, okay, when he comes back,
09:31whenever that is, how are we going to manage that lot again?
09:34What is capable today to sustain having an impact on the team?
09:39Do these impacts maybe in a way impact the way your team plays?
09:43For example, on Wednesday night, everyone's got an opinion.
09:46And on Wednesday night, the opinion was Arsenal are a very exciting team to watch.
09:50The game was by a minute.
09:51It was a really good game.
09:52This time last week, many people's opinion was the other way around.
09:56Does it matter to you what people think about your team?
09:58Or is it just about winning games?
10:00No, I think you have to respect every opponent.
10:04It would be good to be very consistent.
10:06But that's what we face as well.
10:08I mean, it's understandable.
10:10It's a game that you are too passionate to and you just get the emotion of what you've just seen.
10:16And it's normal.
10:18And you just forget what the team has done.
10:20But I understand that's the level, that's the expectation.
10:24And our job as well is to create that excitement constantly.
10:28But the opponent has a lot to do with that in relation to how they want to play.
10:31And that's inevitable.
10:33But that's on us.
10:35That's our responsibility as well.
10:37And we take it.
10:38We accept it.
10:38I was going to finish by saying that ideally you probably want teams to come and have a
10:43go at you.
10:44Try to win the game every week.
10:46Like Bayern did on Wednesday rather than maybe Everton might do tomorrow.
10:49Or some teams that have no block and say, alright, I'll ask for you.
10:52But that will depend as well.
10:53And every team is going to prepare the game to understand what is the best way to beat us.
10:57That's for sure.
10:58Like we do with the opponent.
10:59And yeah, if the game changes after 10 minutes when you have an open chance,
11:03maybe the next 18 minutes are different because the context of the game and the results
11:07has a huge impact on how the teams behave.
11:11And as I said, always, we need to be prepared to win in any context.
11:15And on top of that to be as good as possible, as enjoyable as possible in every context.
11:21And that's our job.
11:22Good luck tomorrow.
11:23Hi, Mikel.
11:26When Ibarriese was coming on against Bayern, the Cameron's court moment between you and
11:30him, where at first he seemed in very deep thought and then you said something to him
11:34that kind of made him laugh.
11:35I was just wondering what your message to him was in that moment.
11:39I think that says between him and I, he knows why I did it and that's it.
11:45Epps when he's like this and grumpy, I don't think we're going to get the best out of him.
11:49When he's laughing, he's himself, he can express.
11:53I think that's where we're going to find the best version of him.
11:55That's it.
11:56Last season you spoke about understanding it more.
11:58Was that a moment where you felt, OK, you understand what he needed?
12:01I think it's crucial that we do that.
12:04At least we are open to that because the more we connect with our players and we know
12:09how they are feeling and you can create that emotional connection between the coaches
12:16or whether it's the staff or between players, obviously even more ideal.
12:20I think that was the best version of yourself and then you feel understood and listened and
12:26important and I think that's crucial to get performances.
12:31And just on emotions, last week you mentioned emotional dominance.
12:36Owning the moment, it seems like Deccan Rice in the last few games leads by
12:40has really kind of seized those moments when Arsenal needed a goal.
12:44Is that something, that phrase, is that something you think of him?
12:47I've really seen a step there on emotional dominance and control of Deccan
12:52and it's something that I demand him to do because I know the presence,
12:56I know the charisma and I think it's very important to set the bar,
12:59especially when things are not where we want to but we are still chasing to do that
13:05and generate that belief and conviction in the team.
13:08And I think he's done that really, really well.
13:11Max Stendert.
13:12Max Stendert.
13:12Would you say with Bukayo the number of muscle injuries he has had that that's maybe impacted
13:17how you've been able to use him, maybe he has become a different profile of weight bag than
13:22he was working on for Michael?
13:25Not now. I don't know what's going to happen in the future.
13:28There's been muscles, there's been tendons as well, which is something else.
13:32But that's not with Bukayo, with many other players as well.
13:35And we discussed that, I think, last year.
13:38And that's what we need to keep an eye on.
13:39And how do you sort of, I guess, lift in Menti now?
13:42Because he spoke in the summer about wanting this to be a fresh start.
13:44So the setbacks behind him now is that another one.
13:47How do you do it today?
13:49Today, just thinking how can I help the team.
13:51I already told them, go in that building and be the first one there
13:54with a good spirit energy because that's what the team needs.
13:57If everybody was like, Bukayo, how are you?
14:00Are you sad?
14:01Are you okay?
14:01Are you okay?
14:02That's exactly what we don't need.
14:03It is what it is.
14:04This is part of our job, to have this, to have sometimes a bad result,
14:08a defeat, a problem.
14:09We need to deal with that.
14:10We cannot change that now.
14:11What we certainly can dominate is the narrative from here
14:14to the Everton game, together with the best energy and spirit,
14:18to go and win the game again.
14:20OK, we'll do the last couple in the Adelaide section.
14:22Firstly to Ryan and then to Karam.
14:24Sorry, Ryan first.
14:25Hi, Mikel.
14:26Obviously, Martins and Mendes have been back fit for following his recent injury.
14:30Can you just provide a bit of context on his situation?
14:33Because it was clear in the summer that you wanted to keep him, you said that.
14:37He seems to just be lacking opportunities at the moment.
14:40Yeah.
14:41Well, he had a few.
14:42Then he had the injury.
14:43And it's true that he had one game where he was almost fully available to play some minutes,
14:48not to start the game.
14:49And from now, he needs to end the right to play.
14:52I need to find the right games to give him the opportunity.
14:56And I know when I do that, what his response is going to be.
14:59But he's been exceptional, whatever the role that he had to assume.
15:04And I expect that from every player.
15:06And he's a player that deserves more minutes at the moment.
15:09And just on Ricardo Calafuri as well, such an important player.
15:13You've had to protect him at times because he's had a few needles since he's been in the club.
15:18Is he ready to maybe start a third game in a row?
15:21And also, is Piero available for tomorrow?
15:24Yeah, he is ready.
15:25I think Ricky is in a different place because he had a full preseason as well.
15:29And he's been available for every match.
15:31And Piero, he trained with us and is available for tomorrow as well.
15:36Hi, Michael.
15:39After the game against Bayern Munich, you were quick to praise your team's mentality.
15:44And nowadays, within the recent years, it seems like when you go down in matches,
15:48you always find the strength to pull it back.
15:50Could you give us some insight into, over the years,
15:52how you've managed to build a team full of mentality monsters?
15:56That's great to the players.
15:57I think we know what the expectations are.
16:00We know that we prepare and face each opponent, regardless of who it is,
16:06to beat them.
16:07And that's the objective.
16:09And that's it.
16:09And that's the focus.
16:11And things can happen throughout a game.
16:13Things that we don't expect.
16:14Things that we don't like.
16:16Things that we have to overcome.
16:18So be it.
16:19If you want to win a lot of matches,
16:21you're going to have to face so many different kinds of situations.
16:24And I think the team is ready to do that.
16:27Okay, guys.
16:27Okay, guys.
16:28Okay.
