00:33Eric Ibar's not that guy.
00:35He can change the complexion of a game with his glove, with his arm, and with his instincts.
00:40And that's a lot to be said for a guy who has now made himself a pretty good offensive player.
00:46He has become one of the better guys at that position in his league.
00:51Vargas kicks and throws.
00:53And Howie Kendrick got a swing and a miss. He's gone.
00:56Well, a great confidence right there in his stuff.
00:59Could have wasted a pitch right there, but he figured, why worry?
01:02That's a great job of finishing off the batter in a hurry.
01:05Never got a chance to see much.
01:06And now batting with one down.
01:09Here's a swing and a ground ball.
01:11He picks it up.
01:12Over to second for one.
01:14And they'll get to Pujols.

01:32Steve, as he gets into this Angels lineup, what's he looking at?
01:36Well, the offense is going to be important to support this good right-handed pitcher on the mound today.
01:40He's facing a great lineup.
01:42This team can put some runs up on the board.
01:44So if his club could score early, it could take some of the pressure off of him
01:48and allow him to get in the strike zone a little earlier in the count.

02:31they can hit the ball out of the ballpark.

02:42Now we'll take a quick look at the A's,
02:44how they're taking the field defensively.
02:47That defense is going to be critical in this game.
02:49They're going to have to make the routine play
02:51and some of the spectacular plays as well
02:53against this very difficult lineup.

03:35You have to wonder if they're going to get anybody out.

04:35And right now, they look unstoppable.

06:03That made it 2-3 after trading games.

06:07against the Astros in Houston.
06:09As you can see, a bit out of control.

06:12He's going to bring Josh Donaldson up.
06:15Now, Garen, as we saw that hitter get hit
06:16with the pitch right there,
06:17it's just a mechanical issue.
06:19He'll get that ironed out a little bit,
06:21but I don't think it's intentional, certainly.
06:24That's one away.
06:27Let's take a look at last year's rankings
06:29and see how the Oakland Athletics fared.
06:32Third and triples.
06:34Sixth in batting average with runners in scoring position.
06:36And they were in the top ten in home runs.
06:38That ability to drive the ball
06:40really paid dividends for this team's offense.
06:43It's Redick at the plate.
06:44What a wild ride in 2012.
06:47So many big moments for the A's.
06:49They ended up losing five
06:50to a very talented Detroit team,
06:53but a real good year for this young team
06:55and some great postseason experience.
06:57Dan Vargas' pitch,
06:58that's going to miss inside.
07:00And for the A's of the postseason,
07:02you think back to some of the defensive miscues,
07:04but overall, they played it really well.
07:07Took a Cy Young and an MVP to beat them in game five.
07:10And how rocky was the Coliseum during that series?
07:12I mean, for a while,
07:12it looked like they would be unbeatable at home
07:14with their walk-off dramatics.
07:16What a classy show from the crowd
07:17to give them a standing ovation
07:19after they were eliminated in game five
07:20of the ALDS.
07:21Amazing.
07:23And Josh Reddick goes down swinging.
07:25That's strike three.
07:27Well, two strikes on the hitter,
07:28and he came inside.
07:30He just couldn't catch up quickly enough to it.
07:32He must have been thinking away.
07:34And we're going to see Sines more here.

08:23And you see their ability to manufacture runs
08:26and the fact that they were second in the league
08:27in stolen bases.
08:29Speed was a major part of advancing runners.
08:32Swing and a drive.
08:33Deep left center.
08:35This one's towards Redding.
08:37Able to glide over.
08:38Not much of a problem on that one.
08:41Well, they followed the scouting reports.
08:42They moved the outfielders back before the play,
08:45and they were in exactly the right position
08:47to be able to make the catch.
08:48Good coaching.
08:49Harris at the plate.
08:50He reached on an error and later scored
08:52last time through the lineup.
08:54And Harris has got himself a single.
08:56So that brings Josh Hamilton to the plate.
08:59Well, you gotta love to see this guy get on base
09:01with two outs right here with that base hit.
09:03Now, it's up to his teammates
09:05to figure out a way to get him across the plate.
09:08He homered earlier in the ball towards the middle.
09:11And that one is in there.
09:12His second hit today.
09:14Let's take a peek back to last season
09:16at what Josh Hamilton did and how he ranked.

09:22And that slugging percentage was certainly there.

09:26That ability to drive the ball
09:28and always put himself in scoring position.
