00:00Christina Applegate just said she doesn't actually have MS.
00:03The actress shared this Tuesday on the latest episode of her podcast,
00:07Messy, which she hosts with Jamie Lynn Sigler.
00:10Applegate, who is 54, first announced her MS diagnosis in 2021,
00:14and she stepped away from acting after Dead to Me ended in 2022.
00:18She said her doctor recently told her,
00:21Congratulations, you don't have MS, but she wasn't relieved.
00:24Her symptoms haven't gone away, and she said that in some ways they've gotten worse.
00:29That leaves her, in her words, back at square one.
00:32Her doctors are now trying to figure out what's actually been causing her health problems since 2021.
00:38She also said the news sent her into a deep depression,
00:41and she took time off from the podcast to process it.
00:43In a follow-up episode, a Cedars-Sinai neurologist said MS misdiagnosis is fairly common,
00:50partly because there's no single test for the disease.
00:53She estimated that roughly 20% of people diagnosed with MS don't actually have it.
00:58Applegate hasn't said what's behind her symptoms, and it's still unknown.
01:02If you'd lived with a diagnosis for years, would you have pushed for a second opinion sooner?
