We humans can be a violent species, there's no denying it. Globally, between four hundred thousand to four hundred and seventy five thousand humans are killed by other humans; in wars, accidents, or by cold blooded murder - that makes us one of the most dangerous animals on the planet, second only to mosquitoes when it comes to the number of deaths we inflict upon other humans.
You probably won't be surprised to find out that this has been a constant theme throughout modern history - in the last few centuries, individual wars have killed hundreds of thousands - sometimes millions - of people, and homicide rates in many regions are gradually on the rise. What if we turn the clock back, however? Did our ancestors treat each other with the same animosity we sometimes show to our own kind today? Well, in some instances, yes.
In today's video, we will be examining a series of murder cases, from times before written records; where only physical evidence etched into bones can provide us with fleeting answers. Join us as we embark on a particularly grisly journey back through to the depths of prehistory to meet the human killers of the ancient world.
