Ms. Tina Knowles launched Headliners, a salon catering to professional women, because she saw a business opportunity in a frustrating salon visit. The promise: Clients would be seen within 15 minutes or get their money back.

“My approach to business has always been find a need that’s not being fulfilled,” Knowles told Fortune MPW.

00:00My approach to business has always been find a need that's not being fulfilled.
00:05You know, I used to go to a hair salon and they had the best skills, like they were amazing.
00:10But I would go in there, I would be in there for like four or five hours because it would
00:15be all this gossip and it would be selling dinners and it was just so much stuff going
00:20on that was entertaining for some women.
00:22But for me, I had stuff to do.
00:24So I was like, I want to get in here and get out of here.
00:27My approach to business has always been find a need that's not being fulfilled or it's
00:33not enough of that to go around.
00:35And so that you start your business based on something that nobody else offers.
00:41And so that's what we did.
00:43We set up a salon catering to professional women.
00:46We guaranteed that you got in and out, that you were waited on within the first 15 minutes.
00:51And if you weren't satisfied, you got your money back.
00:54And let me tell you, when you have a bunch of hairstylists and they have to work for
00:57free, they learn very quickly.
00:59That's right.
00:59And we served wine and we just, we networked for the businesses, introduced people and did
01:06an arm of philanthropy.
01:08It was a very different environment for a salon.
01:11That's a great wine.
01:11But it worked really well.
01:12I don't know.
01:12I don't know.
01:12I don't know.
