00:00Opposition Chief Whip Marvin Gonzalez is claiming the government's electricity surcharge effectively
00:05amongst to a rate increase that should follow the procedures set out in the RIC Act.
00:11What effectively is happening is the government increasing the rates and the price for utility services,
00:19in this case electricity, branding it as surcharge,
00:23and thereby telling the people of the country that it is not doing it in, or rather it is still
00:31complying with the RIC Act.
00:33Gonzalez says changes to electricity and water rates should involve public consultation and the regulatory process.
00:41He also raised the concerns about WASA's water quality and a reported reduction in its budget allocation.
00:47And for dirtiness and for dirty water to flow through the taps of the citizens of Trinidad and Tobago,
00:53and for the UNC, under Barry Baderai, to tell the people of this country that this water is safe to
00:59drink, it is despicable.
01:02Gonzalez says he intends to raise further questions about WASA's funding when he gets the opportunity to speak in parliament.
