00:00The High Court in Kuala Lumpur was told on Friday that the government had overpaid
00:05Semantan Estate Sendrian Berhad 1952 by between RM400,000 and RM500,000
00:12in compensation for the acquisition of 263.272 acres of land known as the Duta Enclave in 1956.
00:21Finance Ministry Valuation and Property Services Department Assistant Director Tan Tat Kwan
00:26said he valued the land in Mukim Batu at RM875,000, compared with the RM1.39 million paid by the
00:35government.
00:36Tan, the government's sole witness, was testifying during the compensation assessment hearing before Judge Roslan Matnoor.
00:43Under further questioning by Senior Federal Counsel Nur Hafiza Azizan,
00:48Tan confirmed that his assessment indicated an overpayment.
00:51Earlier, Tan said he had also assessed the land based on a different acreage,
00:57arriving at a compensation value of RM985,000.
01:01Asked by Roslan whether additional compensation would be payable based on that valuation,
01:07Tan said none would be due.
01:09However, he clarified that both recommended amounts excluded interest.
01:14Tan also defended the reliability of valuation reports by A.A.Rag and A.I.G. Harding,
01:21who assessed the land in 1956 and 1958 respectively,
01:25rejecting suggestions that their findings amounted to hearsay because they had not testified in court.
01:31He maintained that their reports were reliable.
01:34The hearing resumes on November 23rd.
