00:00Everyone, of course, was asking us, like, oh my God, you were just with Whitney the night before.
00:03Like, how was she?
00:04We're like, she looked like she was on top of the world, like feeling her best self, which made us,
00:08of course, divorce and separation is heavy and hard.
00:11But it made us feel good, at least, that you seemed like you were in a good place with it.
00:15Right.
00:15Was it indicative of how you feel about this decision to file for divorce?
00:19Like, you feel good about it, right?
00:20Yeah.
00:20I mean, I'm the one who filed.
00:22Me of the choice.
00:23And you see it play out through the season.
00:26It took me a long time to get here.
00:28Right.
00:28I mean, because even having that conversation with Heather in San Francisco, it seemed like you still didn't know what
00:34she wanted to do.
00:36It was like you could go one of two ways.
00:38And at the end of the conversation, Heather was like, you know, remember how you and Justin decided to make
00:43it work last time you were in San Francisco?
00:44Hold on to that energy.
00:46Was there a part of you that wanted to hold on to the energy and try to make it work?
00:49Or do you think you decided to sort of?
00:50And it sounds like you were doing all the work for that.
00:51Yeah.
00:52Yeah.
00:52No, I definitely wanted it to work.
00:54I can sit here and say I gave it my all.
00:57Yeah.
00:57I've tried everything.
00:59Great.
00:59It's one of those things.
01:01It's very sad and hard.
01:02Like, I am glowing because I'm finding happiness and peace.
01:08I have peace in my heart through all the chaos.
01:10Yeah.
01:10It's sad.
01:11It's devastating.
01:12I love Justin.
01:13I love my family.
01:15And no matter, I mean, now that we know I'm getting divorced, like, he and I are still focused on
01:21the kids.
01:21Yeah.
01:22So we're keeping it peaceful, amicable, and we're co-parenting well.
01:25Nice.
01:25So it's sad.
01:26But yeah, I gave it my all.
01:27I wanted it to work.
01:30But also, you have to choose yourself at a certain point.
01:32Right.
01:32You know what I mean?
01:32And it's a thing to, of course, divorce people, look at it in different ways.
01:37It's not like it's a failure or something.
01:38It's just something worked for a while, and now you have to do something else that works for you both
01:43separately.
01:43Well, and you have to really consider how I was raised, my Mormon roots.
01:46Yeah.
01:47Even though I'm no longer part of the church, I've been out of the church for 20 years.
01:52Yeah.
01:52I still have that Mormon programming running in my brain that you don't get divorced.
01:57Right.
01:57Like, you don't do that to your family.
01:59And I grew up in a divorced family.
02:01I grew up with a childhood that was hard, so I did not want to do this to my kids.
02:06But at some point, I realized, okay, that's Mormon programming.
02:10Get that out of your head.
02:11Right.
02:11That's not true.
02:12I felt, I get called selfish a lot for wanting a divorce.
02:15The society labels you that, people label you that.
02:18And I realized, it's actually more selfish of me to stay in a situation that I'm not happy in.
02:22Right.
02:23And also, like, subject your kids to an unhappy household.
02:26Yeah.
02:27You know?
02:27How are your kids feeling about it?
02:28How are you talking to your kids about it?
02:29My kids are so amazing.
02:32They're so cute.
02:32They get it.
02:34They're 16 and 13.
02:35Right.
02:36Bobby's my, they're both my best friends.
02:38I'm very close to my kids.
02:39Yeah, that's so sweet.
02:40And that's what I dove into during this process is business and kids.
02:45And also, it's a thing, too, because people always say they want to, like, you know, protect their kids and
02:49everything.
02:49Kids are smart.
02:50So, like, they're aware of stuff.
02:51Like, I'm sure when you guys were talking about everything, they're like, Ma, we know.
02:54Oh, yeah.
02:55Yeah.
02:55I don't know why.
02:56I pushed off doing it and having the conversation with them for so long.
03:00I think me choosing to leave the home.
03:03Yeah.
03:04Or, like, separating and nesting.
03:06We put that off for so long because I was so scared to tell the kids.
03:09Yeah.
03:09But once I told the kids, they're like, thank you.
03:11Oh.
03:12Oh, okay.
03:12Wait, that's amazing.
03:13They're like, we want you happy.
03:14We want dad happy.
03:15We want you happy.
03:16Exactly.
03:16So, I think that Bobby and Brooks are fine because they have two parents that love them.
03:20Yeah, that's all you can ask for.
03:21And we're both showing up for them.
03:22That's more than a lot of kids have.
03:23And at 13 and 16, they're definitely aware of what's being said on social media.
03:29Are they watching the show?
03:30Have you seen Bobby out in my comments?
03:33No.
03:34Is she clapping back at people?
03:35Oh.
03:36Is she Mama's defender?
03:37She is my little warrior princess.
03:40Oh, wait.
03:41Like, redheads are fiery one.
03:43They are.
03:43She's my daughter.
03:44Yeah.
03:44And she's Bobby Rose.
03:45I had to, like, say, okay, no more.
03:49Oh, my God.
03:49But that must have felt good, you know, to know that she wanted to clap back at your haters.
03:54Yeah, it makes me feel good, but I also don't want her to feel like she has to do that.
03:58Right, yeah.
03:58Like, I'm in the public life.
04:00She's not.
04:00And so, that's the hardest thing about being on a show is your kids are subject to what I go
04:06through.
04:06That's right.
04:07But, no, my kids are fierce.
04:08I wouldn't mess with them.
04:09We talked to Heather last week, of course, when she was promoting her book.
04:13And it was, unfortunately, timing-wise, the same day that the news broke for you.
04:17So, and she wasn't really sure you were going to do that or aware of it.
04:21Did you kind of need it to be a decision you privately made before, like, talking with your friends?
04:27Yeah.
04:27It was out of protection from my family and my kids.
04:30Yeah.
04:30I get that.
04:31I keep it pretty guarded and close.
04:33I hold it close to my chest to protect my kids and to protect Justin's ability to be amicable and
04:39co-parent.
04:40Right.
04:42But, in all honesty, I don't know, I didn't know it was going to hit because I thought it was
04:47going to be sealed, the filing.
04:49But the judge denied that motion.
04:51You can actually see it in the filing.
04:53So, I woke up after the event to all of that.
04:57Right.
04:58The timing was kind of insane.
05:00Have you and Heather chatted since?
05:02Yeah.
05:02Just due to text.
05:03She's still busy on her tour.
05:04Yeah.
05:05But you're good.
05:06Yeah.
05:07I mean, it's one of those things where I just, honestly, I thought I was going to be able to
05:12keep it pretty private.
05:14Yeah.
05:14Do you think the judge denied it because you are a public figure?
05:17I don't know.
05:18I spent a lot of time talking to my attorney about it.
05:22And, like, even Post Malone, he couldn't get his custody case sealed.
05:27Gotcha.
05:28So, it's a Utah thing, I guess?
05:30Yeah.
05:31Yeah, I mean, it's public record, but it's not like I got arrested or, like, I didn't do anything to
05:35harm the public.
05:36I'm just getting divorced.
05:37Yeah.
05:38So, it was kind of frustrating because I didn't expect that.
05:43I probably would have waited until after, but it was kind of a blessing in disguise because it was, like,
05:47divorce, and then we hate Whitney because she's a bad friend to Kwai.
05:51Oh, that's true.
05:51So, it kind of got, like, swallowed up by the toothbrush.
