Botswana President Duma Gideon Boko has arrived in Beijing for a state visit to China from October 12 to 17, at the invitation of Chinese President Xi Jinping. The visit, his first since taking office in November 2024, includes talks with Xi, meetings with senior Chinese officials and a trip to Fujian Province.
The visit builds on more than 50 years of diplomatic relations between China and Botswana, established in 1975, and their strategic partnership formed in September 2024. Both countries seek to strengthen cooperation in key sectors, including energy, mining, education and healthcare.
