00:01So these injuries to the cornerbacks are meant, you know, we haven't talked about Canada or Prunty.
00:07Yeah, I mean, all four guys out today, didn't dress.
00:13And now all of a sudden Woods out.
00:15It appears with the way he ran off the field, he's got a chance of getting back in, but he's
00:18under the blue tent, getting checked out.
00:23Vildor is at one corner, Marcus Jones at the other.
00:28Woods in the safety.
00:31They've also got Jalen Reed back there, second down, 13 Cousins, second option, blocked.
00:38Gentry, Ellis was there along this bullying, third and 13.
00:48Well, just rushing four, dropping seven into coverage, you get this, you're going to get a little seven-yard gain,
00:53make it a manageable third down.
00:55But with the drop, you see Cousins not happy with that.
00:57He tried getting it out quick, didn't want to take the sack.
01:03Mike Brown has come in the secondary as well now for New England.
01:09They got five guys back there, third and 13 from Cousins.
01:13He needs the 14.
01:16Miller the block.
01:17Here comes Ponder, held by Glaze.
01:20Throw is short.
01:21Incomplete.
01:24It's fourth and 13.
01:25No yellow on the play, fourth and 13 for the Raiders, who are going to go for three in the
01:33rain.
01:34Well, no extra pressure here, just the four up front.
01:39Cousins try to spin it out of it to buy more time, and does the smart thing by throwing it
01:43away.
01:47That day, we'll try the field goal.
01:49A 46-yard try.
01:53Missed earlier from 49 at the same end.
01:56Missed three in pregame at the same end.
02:04I thought he was going to hit it again.
02:06Yeah, now he could have knocked into Cambridge, but he did sneak it in, and they get three.
02:11And they get something out of that good beginning field position.
02:15Gay from 46 sneaks it in.
02:1828-10, Pats.
02:24Randy Foxborough, CBS Monday from Dick Wolf, creator of FBI.
02:28Comes a different kind of justice operating in the shadows.
02:32New CIA tomorrow at 9, 8 Central, after FBI.
02:39So we just had a 46-yard field goal by that man right there, Matt Gay.
02:48And he brings the Raiders a bit closer.
02:51Here's the kickoff, and Kyle Williams, who has a touchdown reception today.
02:56And then he is way late on the play, hit by Cody Linderberg.
03:0124-yard return.
03:03There's Adam Vinatieri in the Hall of Fame next to Bob Kraft.
03:07And what a run those two men had.
03:09What an incredible career for Vinatieri.
03:10And obviously the direction change of this organization when Robert Kraft took over.
03:19They're celebrating the 2001 season.
03:21The Super Bowl champions that were back here today.
03:23A lot of Adam Vinatieri's teammates were here as well.
03:28Stephenson in the back.
03:29Henderson's out for the rest of the game.
03:30First and 10.
03:31It's Stephenson.
03:32And out of bounds shoved by Taron Johnson.
03:35So two more starters are out.
03:37But Travion Henderson is gone with an ankle hurt earlier in the game.
03:43And Will Campbell is out.
03:45The starting left tackle with a knee injury.
03:48Lomu is the first-round pick out of Utah.
03:51Late first-round pick.
03:52And now at left tackle.
03:53And a lot of Stephenson in the backfield.
03:56In the second down and 10.
03:59May is 16-22.
04:01The draw play.
04:03And the run here by Stephenson.
04:05Into a confluence of defenders.
04:07Stukes was there.
04:08The rookie out of Arizona.
04:09Gain of five.
04:10And their number one wide receiver, A.J. Brown, is still on IR.
04:12He's not eligible to come back until for another week.
04:16Matt Collins, who took over as their number one target.
04:20He just was placed on IR this week.
04:22And just the injuries continue to mount for the Patriots.
04:26But they're finding ways.
04:26They're looking good.
04:27They're being efficient.
04:28Drake Banks playing outstanding.
04:29And the next guy has to step up.
04:31That's kind of the mindset that they've taken.
04:34And the approach and the success that they've had here in the last couple weeks.
04:37Third down five from the 34.
04:39And the throw for the first down.
04:41Touglas on the move.
04:43And into the secondary.
04:44Touched down by Stokes.
04:47On third and five.
04:48Again, a 16.
04:49The midfield and a first down for New England.
04:54Well, just an easy pitch and catch.
04:55He's going to be in the slot.
04:56Watch the defender.
04:57They're trying to give it a disguise like it's going to be man.
04:59And instead, they run out and go to a cover two look.
05:03But because of that, Douglas is able to have a big cushion.
05:07And May finds him quickly.
05:08And he's able to get upfield near midfield.
05:12Andre Stevenson is back there with the quarterback.
05:15Drake May.
05:16Current AFC Offensive Player of the Week.
05:19Lomu, a block.
05:20Down the sideline.
05:21He's down.
05:23Terrific throw.
05:24Now, Raritan comes up with an in-flight.
05:29Put him at the 19-yard line.
05:31What a pinpoint throw by May.
05:3431-yard completion.
05:35Kevin, you can't throw this ball any better.
05:38Raritan is going to come in motion.
05:39And he's just running a wheel route.
05:40It looks like he's running a flat.
05:42Quay Walker is looking back at the quarterback.
05:44He just takes it up the sideline.
05:46And all he has to do is just put his hands up.
05:48He didn't even have to do anything to reach for the ball.
05:51Perfectly thrown right in front of the safety and over the top of Walker.
05:54Corey Kiner will get the block from the center.
05:57Wilson and plow his way by the 15, near the 14, and picks up four.
06:04Just back to these receivers again as we're going to watch.
06:07We have a little fun with May.
06:10A.J. Brown gone.
06:11High ankle.
06:12He's had four straight 1,000-yard receiving seasons.
06:16Stephon Diggs is gone.
06:18Booty is gone now.
06:19So, I mean, this is a different look receiving core to begin with.
06:22Well, it's a different look.
06:23And I think people can stop talking about the struggles that Greg May had the first three weeks.
06:27He's completing 75% today.
06:29Three touchdowns, no interceptions.
06:32It's Stevenson with a block down there by Dobbs.
06:36And a flag with a tackle made by Chen.
06:41And five and a half to go here in the third.
06:44Holding.
06:45Offense.
06:46Number 84.
06:47It's a 10-yard penalty.
06:49Replay second down.
06:52In regards to A.J. Brown, guys, I was told he continues to make good progress coming off
06:56that high ankle sprain.
06:57He was seen at the facility this week walking without a limp.
06:59And Josh McDaniel said he doesn't anticipate any kind of delay in terms of him having to
07:03get back on the same page with Drake.
07:04They grinded from the moment he got to New England in mid-June.
07:07And Drake told us, I can't lie, A.J. going down was a huge loss.
07:10But I can't wait to have him back.
07:12And by the way, without the size of Brown, the receiving core, physically, height-wise, is a little bit smaller.
07:18And then you lose someone like Hollins.
07:19It just amplifies it even more.
07:21Second down, 16-24.
07:25Romu, a block.
07:26And a block in there by Dura Tucker.
07:28And May is on the move and led over there by Douglas.
07:32And chopped his way down to the 17 of the Raiders on a gain of seven.
07:38Good decision by May.
07:40He doesn't want to use his feet all the time.
07:42But when he has to and when things break down, and that's what Mike Vrabel told us this week.
07:45He said, listen, I told him, you have to play the way you play.
07:49And don't press and don't stress.
07:50But when you get an opportunity, instead of forcing a football in there, use your legs.
07:55And he's done that a couple of times today.
07:59May wanted the backfield.
08:05It's third down and eight, and they bring four.
08:09May, incomplete.
08:12Fourth and eight.
08:14Oh, and a flag.
08:15And a late one at that.
08:16It just flew.
08:18At about the six-yard line.
08:21That was unusual timing of that flag.
08:23That was a long time.
08:26Hunter Henry was looking for a penalty right when the ball went flying past him.
08:30But no flag was thrown until.
08:33Defense number seven.
08:35The ball is facing the spot on the automatic first down.
08:38All the things the Raiders have tried to avoid in the beginning of this season.
08:43A 3-0 start.
08:44Then 3-1 with a good game against Kansas City.
08:47Had disappeared a bit today.
08:48Well, here's going to be what looks to be the hold.
08:56And yes, there is a collision.
08:58Yes, it's past the five yards.
09:00And then around the helmet.
09:01Are both going back and forth.
09:03Yes.
09:03All those things.
09:04It's just why it took so long for the flag to come out.
09:09Tighter the bat.
09:15False start.
09:16Offense.
09:17Number 77.
09:19Five-yard penalty.
09:20Still first down.
09:21Well, that's the 18th accepted penalty on the day.
09:31That's why you heard the grumblings from the crowd when the flag was thrown.
09:39Rain is lightly falling.
09:41And it's supposed to pick up in its intensity.
09:42And it began about 20 minutes ago.
09:46It is now a first and 15.
09:49Okay.
09:49Here comes Crosby.
09:50Dumps it off.
09:51Raritan.
09:53Broke one.
09:54Then grabbed by Chin.
09:55As he initially got away from Quidipe, the former Colt.
09:59No gain on the play.
10:02Well, I don't know if May felt this or not.
10:04But Crosby was about as close as you can get to getting the sack.
10:09It's a quick little screen to the outside.
10:11Crosby's isolated one-on-one.
10:13Gets around Moses.
10:13But watch this.
10:14He just gets rid of it.
10:24Running back is Ramondre Stevenson.
10:27Second down and 15.
10:29May.
10:31Chased.
10:32Throws.
10:34And digging.
10:35Driving close to the first down.
10:37The running back Ramondre Stevenson.
10:39He picks up 14.
10:40On second down and 15.
10:42Making it third and one.
10:44As the drive continues for the Pats.
10:51Crosby almost comes up with the sack.
10:53And then watch.
10:54He's the one that comes flying over the top of the pile right there.
10:57He ran about 70 yards on that play.
11:00As he always does.
11:01As he always does.
11:03Just the effort he's given on every play is incredible.
11:09Third and one.
11:10Third and one.
11:13And Stevens in the back.
11:17May.
11:19Loma will block.
11:21Opens the door.
11:21May touchdown.
11:26Three-yard touchdown run by quarterback Drake May.
11:31Second rushing touchdown today for the Patriots.
11:34Well and he gets outside and he's one-on-one with Jeremy Chin.
11:38And he just freezes him with a little stutter step like he's going to cut back to the inside.
11:43Watch as he gets around the edge here.
11:45Good blocking.
11:46Good seal.
11:46And then right here a little.
11:48Just that little bit of stutter.
11:51Causes Jim to hesitate.
11:53And then he's able to swipe away from the arm tackle.
11:56And get in the front corner.
12:00Moregales will try the extra point.
12:02What a day for May.
12:03Second straight.
12:04Good game.
12:04That's through.
12:0535-10.
12:07Paps.
12:09May has had four touchdowns today.
12:12Three through the air.
12:13This one on the ground.
12:15And New England.
12:17Is all over Las Vegas.
12:19This afternoon.
12:24Want to remind you next Sunday.
12:25It's another NFL and CBS doubleheader.
12:28Bryce Young and the Panthers.
12:29Will take on Jalen Hurts and the Eagles.
12:32Then it's a showdown in the desert with the NFL Today in Vegas.
12:35Kirk Cousins and the Raiders against Josh Allen and the Bills.
12:39A lot of you will see the Chiefs and Chargers.
12:41The NFL Today Plus gets you started at 10 a.m. Eastern.
12:45Then it's J.B. and the guys in Vegas at noon Eastern.
12:49We'll see you Sunday with the NFL on CBS and Paramount Plus.
12:54Drake May has had himself quite a two-game stretch.
12:57Today, three red zone touchdowns in three trips.
13:02Last week, they were three for three as well.
13:06It's Tompkins with the kickoff from New England.
13:09And he'll go the other way.
13:11And a flag thrown as the running back, Corey Kiner, brings him down.
13:17Another flag thrown.
13:18By the way, in weeks one, two, and three for New England in the red zone.
13:23One touchdown in six trips.
13:25Now, they're just really riding high offensively with scoring in that red zone.
13:33Personal foul.
13:34Face mask.
13:36Defense, number 33.
13:37It's a 15-yard penalty at the end of the play.
13:40It'll be first down.
13:40That's Mike Brown, and we've signed off the practice squad this week.
13:44That's now 116 yards and penalties for the Patriots.
13:52And the Raiders have over 100 yards.
13:54So, it's just been one of those days where a lot of penalties on both teams.
14:01Raiders got to get something going here, though.
14:02So, obviously, this is a very important possession.
14:08Mike Washington is the back.
14:09First and ten.
14:11And the quick lateral throw caught by Bowers.
14:14Brought down by Woodson and others.
14:16Gain of two.
14:17Second down, 844.
14:18And the rain started coming down here in the second half.
14:20So, it's making it more difficult to throw the ball.
14:22You're trying to push it down the field.
14:24But you've got to find some ways to get quick scores here if you're the Raiders.
14:27Washington in the back.
14:28Second down, 8.
14:29And they go to the rookie, Washington, who is brought down by Ellis.
14:35Washington's out of Arkansas.
14:37Fourth round pick.
14:38Picking up five there.
14:39Third down coming up.
14:40They're at their own 49.
14:41Well, and Washington's a guy, if you let him go, I mean, he's going to get some speed going.
14:47Patriots that time were quick to get to him.
14:49But he's the guy you get in the open field.
14:51It's going to be hard to chase him down.
14:54Gentry back on the field now for this snap for third down.
14:56Again, Gentry didn't practice on Friday.
14:58Here's a third and three.
15:00Here comes Ackes.
15:01Got the quarterback.
15:03The fluttering ball.
15:04And the incompletion.
15:07Gabe Ackes came through along with others and zeroed in on Kirk Cousins.
15:15Well, just nowhere for him to go with the football.
15:19He's trying to wait and have patience, but getting hit at the end there.
15:24Boy, this kid continues to grow.
15:26He's been a consistent playmaker.
15:28The rookie out of Illinois.
15:29A second round pick.
15:30Raiders keep their offense on the field.
15:32Essentially now at the 48.
15:34Yeah, really no choice here, Kevin.
15:35You have to go for it with the way the score is.
15:37Gentry the bat.
15:38Fourth and three.
15:43Cousins.
15:44Good cup.
15:45He's got the completion.
15:47Brock Bowers collides with Byers.
15:49Ball loose.
15:50Fumble on the play.
15:52And the New England Patriots have vacuumed it in with Woodson.
16:04The ruling on the field is conclusive.
16:06And the fumble recovered.
16:08By New England.
16:09First down.
16:15Was that Vildor that punched it out?
16:18Well, Byers is the one who made the hit.
16:20And Vildor gets that right hand in there and punches it.
16:25Former draft choice by the Chicago Bears.
16:29Big time play.
16:34That's the first fumble loss of Brock Bowers' career.
16:41With the frustration on a very frustrating day for the 3-1 Raiders.
16:46I was just going to say he doesn't do that very often.
16:48And the fact that it's just his first one, he's normally so sure-handed.
16:53Chisholm in the round.
16:54Stephenson with the block.
16:55And he's brought down on the play by Koontz.
16:59So the Raider defense.
17:00Points allowed per game.
17:0213 against the Dolphins week one.
17:0414 against the Chargers week two.
17:06Then 27 against the Saints.
17:07Last week, 30 against the Chiefs.
17:09And today, 35 against the New England Patriots.
17:13As they try to rebuild this Raider team.
17:15Coming off a record last year of 4-13.
17:22Make it 3-14.
17:24Much like the Patriots when Vrabel took over.
17:28And they've used that as an example.
17:31You can turn it around in one year.
17:33Second and eight.
17:34Flips it away.
17:36Somehow got that ball off to his receiver.
17:41That is tied in, Raritan.
17:43Who caught it and picked up six on what looked like it might be a loss of six.
17:49Well, and it's just kind of been.
17:51The Raiders have been in this rebuild mode now for several years.
17:55They've had four head coaches in four years.
17:57They feel like Clint Kubiak's the guy to get it done.
17:59John Spitek, the GM, is in his second year.
18:02They've had a lot of change over the last couple of seasons with salary cap space,
18:06trades, and draft picks.
18:08They're trying to get this thing done the right way.
18:10And obviously, Mendoza's sitting behind Cousins right now.
18:13He's got him.
18:14Williams.
18:16What a throw.
18:23He was working on Porter.
18:26A completion of 48 yards and a beauty.
18:31They catch the Raiders in a blitz and man coverage.
18:35Nobody in the middle of the field.
18:38And it's just a foot race at that point.
18:40And that's the way that Drake May has thrown the ball all day,
18:44especially down the field.
18:45His accuracy on deep balls has been phenomenal.
18:48All game long.
18:50Drake May, 343 passing yards.
18:54Three touchdowns.
19:00Gillette Stadium.
19:02Rainfall here in Foxboro.
19:03And a commanding Patriot lead.
19:05They just hit Williams on a 48-yard long pass.
19:09And only the second 300-yard game for quarterback Drake May in his 39 career regular season in playoff games.
19:22The running back is Stephenson.
19:24And it's first and goal.
19:26And it was Redwell right there with the tackle made by Darian Porter.
19:30Down he goes at the 10.
19:32Lost about a half yard.
19:33Second down and goal.
19:34So, Douglas has caught a touchdown pass.
19:37We've had Hunter Henry catch a touchdown pass.
19:40And Williams.
19:41And the quarterback May with a touchdown run for the Patriots this afternoon.
19:50Second down and goal.
19:56Stephenson in the back.
19:59May on the move.
20:01And chased by Quay Walker.
20:03And throws it away as it was pressured.
20:05Third and goal.
20:07Well, Walker with the smart decision there at the end.
20:10I thought maybe he was going to get a big hit on Drake May, which would have been a penalty
20:14based on him throwing it away.
20:16So, smart decision by Walker.
20:18Letting up at the end.
20:24But May's accuracy is completing 76% of his passes.
20:28And it's not like they're all short passes.
20:31I mean, we've seen at least four throws down the field that are right in the basket where the receiver
20:36doesn't even have to extend for it.
20:38Just putting together a heck of a day.
20:39Henry on the move.
20:41Stephenson in the back.
20:42End of the air and end zone.
20:43And Dobbs cannot lasso that pass.
20:46With the coverage by Porter.
20:48Fourth and goal.
20:49The Patriots will bring their field goal unit out onto the field.
20:53Well, Dobbs climbs up and has this in his hands.
20:56Watch how he goes over the top of Porter.
20:58He has it.
21:00Just not able to bring it into the ground.
21:10Andy Borogales will be trying a field goal.
21:12It will go down at the 18.
21:14It's a 28-yard field goal try.
21:18The hold by Wisnowski.
21:20Julian Ashby with the snap.
21:23And it's perfect.
21:24And Borogales puts in the 28-yard field goal officially.
21:3138-10 New England.
21:37The NFL on CBS is sponsored by Allstate.
21:43You're in good hands.
21:47Domino's.
21:48Domino's.
21:48Try the new Domino with Detroit-style Parmesan crust now.
21:52And by Kia.
21:54Movement that inspires.
21:59Fans have made NCIS Tuesday the best night of television.
22:1038-10 is the score.
22:13With the kickoff in Lobby from about the 6 for Las Vegas.
22:20And then brought down on the play on the return by Eric Hunter who leads the Patriots in special teams
22:29tackles.
22:30NCIS Tuesday.
22:32Best night of television.
22:33Join the new era of NCIS this Tuesday night.
22:37starting at 8-7 Central.
22:39On CBS and streaming on Paramount Plus.
22:45The Cousins remains in the game with the feature at that position.
22:50Fernando Mendoza watching.
22:55Take to Jenny.
22:56And the screen to Jenny with a block over there by the left guard, Buford.
23:02And he takes it with a tackle into the grasp of Brown.
23:05It is a first down, catch and run, Mel to the 38.
23:09Yeah, and it's been just shy of two years since Kirk Cousins tore his Achilles in 2023 when he was
23:13with the Vikings.
23:14And he told us this week it's been a gradual process to come back from.
23:17I'll have more after this.
23:19First and 10.
23:22Third sack today.
23:23This from Leonard Taylor.
23:26The offensive line had allowed just five sacks the first four games.
23:31That's the third by the Patriot defense today.
23:35And the loss in the play is seven.
23:38And they're back to the 29.
23:40Well, and that was one of the things we talked about at the start of this is you have to
23:43make Kirk Cousins comfortable.
23:44You can't let him just sit back there.
23:45And they have done exactly that.
23:48Zach Kerr's defense.
23:50Has been terrific.
23:51And downfield and stride.
23:53They get the receiver with the catch.
23:54Cody White spins around.
23:56Kevin Byard brings him down 43-yard line in New England.
24:0128-yard catch and run.
24:08And we've got a player down at the way at the other end of the field at the 17-yard
24:13line.
24:14And that is Draymond Jones.
24:22Now with his fifth team in his eighth year out of Ohio State.
24:26Came in with a shoulder injury into this game.
24:31He missed the Jaguar game a couple weeks ago.
24:34Then played last week.
24:36And down here.
24:39Good to see him back up.
25:01Go take it.
25:02Linderbaum, who is their center.
25:04And Linderbaum, highest paid interior offensive lineman in NFL history.
25:08Got him as a free agent from Baltimore as his team spent a lot of money in the offseason to
25:14rebuild.
25:14First and 10, 43-yard line.
25:17Gentie the call.
25:19And with a tackle made by Christian Ellis, he picks up three.
25:24He's to the 40.
25:25And a trip to New York.
25:26And here's Adam Schein.
25:28Kevin, France, Aaron Rodgers.
25:30Pat Friermuth, again, second time.
25:33They've hooked up for a score.
25:34Rodgers, third passing touchdown.
25:37Back to you.
25:39All right, second down and seven.
25:41Adam, we thank you for that.
25:42They dump it off.
25:42This is Jenny.
25:43Got away from Ellis.
25:44Got away from Bayard.
25:46And then belted out of bounds by Brown.
25:49As he takes it downfield.
25:51Got inside the 10.
25:52Mark him at the 9.
25:53First and goal, Raiders.
25:56Beautiful 29-yard catch and run.
25:59Well, great job by Cousins here as he climbs the pocket.
26:01As he slides up in there to buy some time.
26:04And he sees Gentie underneath and is able to dump it off.
26:06And then the yards after catch and yards after contact gets him down inside the 10.
26:13Gentie remains.
26:16First and goal.
26:18And they go to the wide receiver, Trey Tucker.
26:24And then he was brought down in the play by Ackes.
26:27And they're down to the five on a gain of about four.
26:31Second and goal.
26:38Gentie.
26:39Congested.
26:41Shoved and leans and got maybe to the two.
26:43On top of him, Ackes again.
26:47Well, they're trying to get right to the line of scrimmage.
26:50And Cousins is trying to hurry everybody up.
26:53But they change personnel.
26:54As soon as you change the personnel, that allows the defense to change personnel.
26:58And the official steps in.
26:59They bring in Mike Washington, the rookie running back.
27:05As Cousins is calling the play at the line.
27:13First charge timeout.
27:14New England.
27:16And the Patriots will reassemble.
27:22And Mel, we got 10.54 to go here in the fourth.
27:24Yeah, guys, back to Cousins and his Achilles.
27:27He said it healed so well initially that it was full of scar tissue and it felt like concrete.
27:31He said it's been a constant search to figure out how to break up the scar tissue.
27:34But the more it gets used, the more that scar tissue breaks up and he gets more range of motion.
27:38And it feels better.
27:39But it has been a long, gradual recovery.
27:41Certainly not an easy injury to come back from, guys.
27:44And he's 38, right?
27:45And we know that Aaron Rodgers went through this, Trent, when he was in his 40s with the Jets before
27:51he went to Pittsburgh.
27:53And Rodgers has said, it took me two years to kind of reclaim my style.
27:56Well, and it does.
27:57And as Cousins told us, he said what he learned about his body is his body scars.
28:01And that it scars quickly.
28:03More quickly than maybe others.
28:05And so because of that, he couldn't get the range of motion.
28:07With no range of motion, you're not going to get the strength.
28:10And so it's just, as Melanie reported, it's just getting better and better.
28:14And he feels like it's getting stronger every week.
28:17Lowby is the new back on third and goal.
28:20And he gets the call.
28:21Knifing, driving, and he's in for the touchdown.
28:26Flag was thrown.
28:29Powers Johnson was trying to lead the way from that guard position on the right side.
28:34And a Patriot player is down at the five.
28:36Holding defense, number 99.
28:39That penalty's declined.
28:39The result of the play is a touchdown.
28:41And the Patriot player down is Corey Durden.
28:50So the Raiders take it in on a touchdown run by Lowby.
28:55He had his first carry of the season today and his first touchdown of the season.
29:00Let's see.
29:01He breaks the plane there as his knee's hitting the ground.
29:05Well, there's an injury timeout with 10.49 to go in the fourth as the Raiders cut into the Patriot
29:14lead.
29:18As Lowby has just scored his first career touchdown from the FCS program at New Hampshire.
29:26We step aside on CBS.
29:32Corey Durden, good to see, walking off under his own power.
29:41Extra point coming up for the Raiders, who got a couple of big plays, including a 29-yard catch-and
29:48-run by the running back, Jensie.
29:49And then Lowby took it in for the first time in his career.
29:54Third-year running back.
29:56Two-yard touchdown run.
29:59And the extra point here by Matt Gay.
30:01Well, Patriots can't afford to have any more injuries, Kevin.
30:04They just keep stacking up in this short season so far.
30:10One more for Gay to put on the board, 38-17, with New England on top and 10.49 to
30:17go here in the fourth.
30:22So the Patriots come in 2-2, 1-0 at home.
30:27They beat Pittsburgh here.
30:28And if they win today, if they go on to lead and capture this victory, their first 2-0 start
30:34at home in six years.
30:39Whereas the Raiders came into today 3-1 for just the fifth time in the past 30 years, beginning 3
30:48-0.
30:49With the new first-year head coach, Inklint Kubiak.
30:53Well, you see, he started things off in Minnesota and ended up back in Minnesota 19-21.
31:00That's where he and Cousins came together.
31:03And then he's moved since being with the Vikings, five teams in five years.
31:07Mainly as offensive coordinator and passing game coordinator.
31:10But his one year with Kyle Shanahan, he adjusted some things.
31:14And after winning the Super Bowl a year ago as offensive coordinator for the Seahawks,
31:20hired by the Raiders to be the head coach and get things turned around for the Silver and Black.
31:28Raiders are lining up for an onside kick.
31:34And Matt Gay will take care of that.
31:41A lot of teams are going to this now like a drop kick type style onside kick.
31:49And it's recovered easily by Hunter Henry.
31:53It's funny you say that because I think the last drop kick extra point or field goal was by Doug
32:00Flutie in the old stadium.
32:03I can't recall.
32:05I think it was a field goal.
32:06The wealth of knowledge that's going to that.
32:08I called the game.
32:10Okay, okay.
32:10I was like, wait a second.
32:11Wait a second.
32:12Where does that just randomly go to?
32:13But your drop kick, you just don't see it.
32:15It is.
32:15I know you don't.
32:16You don't.
32:17But I do remember that.
32:18Yeah.
32:19I do remember the Flutie drop kick.
32:22So with the running back Henderson out, Stevenson remains in.
32:25And he is always the workhorse.
32:27And he's wrapped up as he takes it inside.
32:29And Stooks will bring him down on first and ten.
32:33Making it now second down and nine.
32:37Well, speaking of that, here was that drop kick by Doug Flutie in the old stadium.
32:46That's the fact.
32:47Hey, the fact that you came up with it from nowhere and the fact that our truck had that to
32:51go to with the video, that's, hey, great job, guys.
32:56Well, they did the work.
32:56Yeah, they did.
32:57They did.
32:57They were ready for it.
33:00They were ready.
33:01Corey Kiner is the back.
33:03Second down and nine with the fake to him and the throw outside.
33:06And it's caught by the tight end Raritan, who is banged by Porter and got the ball inside the 37
33:13with a pickup of six.
33:16Clock continues to tick.
33:17Five minutes gone.
33:18Third and three for the Pats.
33:19Well, I'm a little surprised, I think, if the Raiders hadn't scored.
33:23I'm surprised that Drake May is still in at this juncture.
33:26Up to three touchdowns with under ten minutes to go.
33:28But, like I said, with the Raiders scoring, trying to use up some more clock and try and keep May
33:37out of harm's way.
33:38Tommy DeVito is over there.
33:40Third down and three.
33:42May today, 23 of 31.
33:46And he throws up for the first down, and it's caught by Chisholm, who is tackled by Jermon McCoy, a
33:53rookie out of Tennessee.
33:55It is a gain of eight on third and three and a first down for the Pats.
33:59Drake May has been sensational today.
34:02359 passing yards.
34:03And he got Douglas right there.
34:05And then Henry.
34:06And then Williams.
34:08Watch, it's just handing the ball off on deep throws.
34:10You see it over and over again.
34:12He's used his legs once again today after 54 yards rushing a week ago.
34:17Three touchdowns, no interceptions, completing 75% of his passes.
34:21Just been on target the entire day.
34:24And they've got 480 total yards of offense.
34:27The most since Vrabel became the head coach.
34:29It's a first and ten handoff as they try to work their way.
34:33And Kiner is the one to do it.
34:36So you watch the first three games of May.
34:39You've watched these last two.
34:41What do you see as some of the differences from a quarterback perspective?
34:44Well, I think there's a couple things.
34:45Number one, he's still young.
34:46He's only 24 years old.
34:47Number two is teams have all offseason to make adjustments, right?
34:51So they've got a full season to see what they did, how successful they were a year ago.
34:54How do you try and defend him?
34:56And I think you saw some of that from Seattle, from Pittsburgh, from Jacksonville, those first three games.
35:01And then Buffalo, for whatever reason, things just kind of calm down in the second half.
35:05And then once the confidence gets going as a quarterback, and you think you can make every throw, that tends
35:10to reflect in your play.
35:12Kiner digging, charging.
35:13He's got the first down.
35:16Terrific run.
35:17N'Kobe Dean brings him down.
35:19That's a burst of ten.
35:20Another first down to the 15-yard line of the Raiders.
35:27Great job by the middle of the offensive line.
35:29Watch.
35:29He gets through, steps right through the arm tackle, and is able to get another first down.
35:41Taking their time right now.
35:44Kiner grew up in Ohio.
35:48Played at LSU and University of Cincinnati.
35:50First and ten.
35:51And Kiner again.
35:53And tackled about the eight.
35:55From behind, Dean, along with Stook's gain of seven.
36:00And he's been around.
36:01He played for the 49ers.
36:03He's been with the practice squad, the Vikings, the Cardinals.
36:05Now with the Patriots.
36:08Well, and Dean with the tackle there.
36:10Rob Leonard, defensive coordinator, was telling us just what a great addition he's been.
36:15He and Quay Walker, two linebackers they brought in.
36:18And really trying, with the addition, or I should say, with Max Crosby coming back after the failed trade to
36:26Baltimore.
36:26Just the pieces that are in place for this defense.
36:30And not quite the day they were hoping to have today.
36:32Kiner second down and three from behind Terran Johnson.
36:36The former Bill brings him down.
36:37Gain of a yard.
36:39It'll be third down.
36:41Kiner was undrafted.
36:43And with the injury earlier in the game to Tradion Henderson, who has an ankle and is gone.
36:48The left tackle, Will Campbell, with the knee, was replaced by the first-round pick, Lomu.
36:56Patriots again are on the move.
36:57Third down and two.
37:02And they're about ready to go to three and two.
37:09That's Chisholm on the move.
37:11Blocked by Moses.
37:13Wide open.
37:14Second touchdown reception to Mario Douglas.
37:18His second today.
37:20He's got two on the season.
37:22An eight-yard touchdown pass by quarterback Drake May.
37:26His fourth touchdown pass today.
37:29He may be the AFC Offensive Player of the Week for a second consecutive week.
37:34Watch the bunch formation.
37:36And what they do, coming into this, there must have been a game plan advising when they get to bunch
37:40formation,
37:41you catch during man-to-man coverage, because they had the touchdown earlier to Hunter Henry,
37:45or Hunter Henry got down inside the one.
37:47We've seen multiple times out of bunch formation with man coverage,
37:50them taking advantage of it to the outside.
37:52This is something they definitely must have dialed in on during the week.
37:56Borigales will try the extra point.
37:58And it's perfect.
37:59And it's 45-17.
38:02The New England Patriots.
38:05who come in off of their most impressive win on the road last week,
38:10beating Buffalo by three.
38:12The previously undefeated Buffalo Bills won at Orchard Park.
38:17And they come in today and followed up with a terrific win.
38:20Now, we just saw Mendoza.
38:22There's a very good chance we think he could come in.
38:24He has not thrown a pass in the NFL.
38:26Well, Kirk Cousins is on the sideline with his hat on and his hands in the warm
38:30and the pouch in front of himself in Mendoza.
38:34So, get an opportunity to see the rookie, the first overall pick,
38:37after winning the national championship in the Heisman at Indiana.
38:41Here's some IU love.
38:44But Mendoza now getting the chance here to come in
38:48and get his first opportunity in the NFL.
38:50Yeah, he's never taken a snap, never thrown a pass.
38:52And he'll get a chance to come in right now, albeit in the rain and in a blowout.
38:58But a chance for the rookie,
39:00the number one overall pick from a national championship program to come in.
39:05And this will stay in the end zone out to the 35 with a touchback and a first and 10.
39:10So, you've watched a lot of Mendoza.
39:12You both went to the same school,
39:14and you've had a chance to talk with him a couple times.
39:16Well, and I think here's the thing you have to understand.
39:18You're coming in this situation.
39:19You're down 28.
39:21Don't try and do everything.
39:22You're not going to get – you're trying to get – you're trying to get first downs.
39:25You're trying to get rhythm.
39:26You're trying to get your feet underneath you, get the play called in the huddle.
39:29You're going to probably be going some no huddle because of the score and things that are going on.
39:34So, just understand because you – believe me, you go in right now mentally,
39:39and you're like, man, we're going to do this,
39:41and we're going to put up some big numbers here and try and really get this offense going.
39:45But I think the important thing for him is to understand making quick decisions,
39:50good decisions, and getting first down.
39:52Lowby is the back.
39:53First and 10 for Mendoza.
39:54First NFL snap.
39:57And Lowby will burrow his way to the 38 with a gain of three and second down and seven.
40:05He began at Cal, played there three years, went to Indiana,
40:08and was an undefeated Heisman Trophy-winning National Championship quarterback.
40:13Well, and the year that he had at Indiana, the comeback win at Oregon,
40:17the comeback win against Penn State, the Big Ten Championship against Ohio State,
40:22obviously what they did to Alabama in the Rose Bowl
40:24and then ultimately Miami to win the National Championship
40:28put him in position to be the first overall pick.
40:31Mendoza's first NFL pass, a completion to the running back,
40:35chased down and a Muisao tackle on Lowby at the 40
40:38and a gain of a couple.
40:43But good progression reading through.
40:45He's trying to get it out to the left side.
40:47He works back to his check down.
40:49You see the day for Cousins.
40:52He was sacked three times on the day.
40:55And, Kevin, I think you mentioned he was only sacked five times coming into this.
40:58So third down and five.
41:06They'll face a four-man rush again.
41:09Progressions and the reception for the first time, Ian Thomas.
41:12And he gets a first down.
41:14Driving to Pat's arm.
41:16That's Pat the Patriot.
41:18At the 49, it's a gain of nine.
41:21I'm third and five.
41:22Well, and Ian Thomas, a former Indiana football player as well, Kevin.
41:25I know you were all over that.
41:26They did not play together.
41:28Thomas played much earlier.
41:30First and ten.
41:31Here he goes.
41:31Another throw right on the screws and caught by Tucker.
41:35And then the avalanche with Vildor grabbing him, bringing down.
41:38Another first down throw.
41:40Thirty-five-yard line of the Pats.
41:43First and ten.
41:45And it's invaluable, right, for these snaps?
41:47Well, and just the fact that he's looking comfortable, right?
41:50And I know it's not.
41:51Listen, the Patriots are playing a much different defense than they've played this whole game.
41:54Absolutely.
41:55They don't think they've got the lead.
41:55It's a little bit different.
41:56But I like the fact that he's not forcing things.
41:59He's working through progressions.
42:00He's finding his checkdowns.
42:01His second, his third receivers in those progressions.
42:05It just, he looks real comfortable right now.
42:07Tompkins, the catch there.
42:09Gain of eight.
42:11And the ball at the 27 in New England.
42:17And Mendoza again.
42:20Brought it back on the move.
42:22Dumps it off.
42:23The running back, Lowry.
42:24And from behind, brought down by Mewisau.
42:27He started for Ponder last week.
42:30And for Tremont Jones the week before.
42:32They pick up seven right there and another first down.
42:35Well, a good discipline there by Mendoza.
42:37Not forcing it.
42:38Stepping through the arm tackle and finding his checkdown to get another first down.
42:42He's five of fives and he's coming off the bench.
42:45There he is with the first and ten.
42:47Colton Miller the block at the left tackle.
42:49Right on the money right there with the catch made by Malik Benson.
42:52His second catch as a pro.
42:55Well, they're saying he was out of bounds.
42:57Missed it.
42:57On the chalk.
42:58But the timing of the throw and, let's see, one.
43:02He must not have got that second one down from that angle.
43:04It looks like the toe was on the line.
43:06Had the ball.
43:07One.
43:07And on the chalk.
43:08Good call.
43:09Incomplete.
43:13So, it began at the 35.
43:16That will count as an incompletion for Mendoza.
43:19Now, five and six.
43:21Second down and ten.
43:24And number one overall pick at high is the winner, Fernando Mendoza.
43:30And he's got this one to the 15-yard line as he hits his receiver on that one, Malik Benson,
43:36the rookie out of Oregon.
43:39Third and five.
43:42But just to be in a game situation, you know, I mean, these are things that you just can't teach
43:47in practice.
43:47You know, and you're on the road and you're playing in, you know, weather that they're playing in.
43:51I mean, these are all things that are valuable.
43:54Third and five.
43:55Broken up beautifully.
43:56Nice defensive play turned in right there by Elliott Davison.
44:01Well, they brought blitz on that one.
44:02They've been rushing four, dropping seven.
44:04This time they decide to bring it.
44:05They rush seven.
44:06He takes a hit up the middle.
44:08Not a big hit, but still the pocket's collapsing.
44:12You've got to get rid of the ball.
44:13He's fortunate.
44:14The DB undercut it.
44:15Almost was able to get an interception, but now setting up a fourth and five.
44:19Let's see if they dial up pressure again or if they go back.
44:23Yep.
