Transcript
00:00It was all walls and windows all the way across, so it was beautiful.
00:05That view, now hard to take in.
00:07Hurricane Isaias destroyed Laura Dean's home facing the Santa Rosa Sound.
00:12It's surprising that it did this much damage here.
00:14Somehow, many keepsakes inside were spared from the extreme wind gusts and torrential rain in Pensacola Beach, Florida.
00:22Family photo albums, my mom's ashes, the Bibles all survived.
00:28All the things that really matter.
00:30Her father, Ken, just weeks away from his 90th birthday.
00:34All the sentimental things. This is him on the beach.
00:37Laura is a Florida native. She's been through plenty of storms and planned to stay here with her family.
00:43But it was the urgent pleas for people to get out that convinced her to pack up and leave.
00:48You don't want to put the other people at risk to come help you if something should happen.
00:53And so, I thought, I'm not going to be selfish and stay. I'm going to think of others.
00:59Thank God we were going to stay here, but we, at the last minute, we evacuated.
01:03She hopes others will think twice if they're debating whether or not to evacuate ahead of the next storm.
01:09If they ever tell you to leave, leave. Or we probably wouldn't be here today.
01:14Things can be replaced. Your family cannot. I'm so grateful that I have my son and my father.
01:20For AccuWeather, I'm Duwato.
