📰 THE FULL STORY
A new genealogical study found that actress Sydney Sweeney and screen legend Marilyn Monroe are ninth cousins, once removed. The two blonde Hollywood stars share a common 17th-century ancestor.
That ancestor was Ezra Perry (c. 1625 to 1689), an early English settler who lived in Sandwich, Massachusetts. The connection links the star of The Housemaid to the Gentlemen Prefer Blondes icon across roughly four centuries of family lineage.
Coverage framed the discovery as a fun piece of trivia connecting two figures often compared for their bombshell status. The research was reported by outlets including E! News and The Hollywood Reporter.
The finding adds a historical footnote to Sweeney's rapidly rising public profile.
⬅️ HOW THE LEFT COVERS IT The takeaway pushed here is that the discovery is a feel-good celebrity curiosity, a tidy symbolic passing-of-the-torch between two blonde icons separated by generations. Coverage foregrounds the romantic lineage angle and the shared ancestor detail, treating the genealogy as destiny that validates the Monroe comparison Sweeney already attracts. The emphasis stays light and flattering, downplaying any skepticism about how distant a ninth cousin once removed actually is. The implied conclusion is that Sweeney inherits a glamorous Hollywood birthright. (E! News, Hollywood Reporter)

⚠️ WHAT THEY AREN'T TELLING YOU A ninth cousin once removed is an extremely distant relationship: sharing a 1600s ancestor like Ezra Perry means millions of living Americans with colonial New England roots claim similar links to Monroe. On TikTok, Sweeney-focused accounts like @uscelebritygossip1 are driving most of her trending attention through videos about her small-town-to-Hollywood rise and her family's sacrifices, not the Monroe genealogy itself. Neither E! News nor The Hollywood Reporter names the specific firm or methodology behind the study in the provided reporting.
🌐 WHAT THE INTERNET IS SAYING On TikTok, Gabriel Mahalem frames Sydney Sweeney's announcement of a ninth-degree kinship with Marilyn Monroe as an eager attempt to tie her career and life to one of pop culture's biggest icons.
Also on TikTok, sarah reacts with skepticism, urging everyone to be serious about the claim.
