In 2006, NASA launched a balloon borne instrument named ARCADE to search for faint radio signals from the very first stars. Instead of a quiet whisper from the early universe, scientists detected a booming radio signal that was six times louder than expected. This mysterious noise is now known to astronomers as the space roar.
Researchers immediately tried to explain the loud signal using known sources. They checked for radio emissions from distant galaxies, gas clouds, and high energy particles within our own Milky Way. However, none of these cosmic objects could account for the sheer intensity of the sound recorded by the instrument.
To this day, the exact origin of the space roar remains an unsolved scientific mystery. Researchers continue to analyze deep space signals to determine if it comes from unknown primal stars or entirely new physics. Until better instruments return to the edge of space, the universe keeps its secret.
