Chen Jing is a quirky and spirited student majoring in the *yangqin* (Chinese hammered dulcimer) at the music conservatory's affiliated high school. Driven by her love for the piano, she volunteers to be a page-turner for Wang Wen, a senior student at the school; however, her lack of knowledge regarding Western classical music and her background in traditional Chinese music lead to Wang Wen’s dismissive attitude and spark friction between the school's two major music departments. Determined to prove her capabilities and demonstrate that traditional Chinese music belongs on prestigious stages, Chen Jing joins forces with the girls from Dormitory 502 to form a traditional music ensemble and express their true voices through music. Chen Jing’s cousin, Chen Hexu—a teacher at the school—helps bridge the divide between the students of the two departments, resolving their prejudices and misunderstandings while quietly offering Chen Jing encouragement and support. Outside of school, a chance encounter leads Chen Hexu to meet the actor Feng Anyu; her authentic approach to life inspires Feng to re-examine his own existence, and he frequently lends a hand as Chen Jing’s band takes shape. With the guidance of Chen Hexu and other teachers, the students mature; those specializing in Western classical music and traditional Chinese music cast aside their preconceptions to coexist harmoniously. Ultimately, Chen Jing proves the allure of traditional Chinese music, performs on a grander stage, and embraces a beautiful youth.
