Do you believe that the Vikings 4-0 record is for real?
Transcript
00:00It's Carson Anderson.
00:02It's a Thursday time for the Blitz thingy.
00:17Gator received yesterday, so I get question one.
00:20All right, question number one, Doug.
00:22The Pittsburgh Steelers, they finally traded Joey Porter Jr.
00:25to the Dallas Cowboys for a 2027 six-round pick and a 2028 second-round pick.
00:30Who won the trade?
00:31Well, when you talk about who won the trade, you also got to talk about who lost the trade,
00:35and who lost the trade was Detroit for not getting involved.
00:38But beyond that, as far as the two teams involved here, I think Dallas won.
00:43If I were doing this show in Pittsburgh, I'd be pissed.
00:46That's all we got back.
00:47And at the end of the day, we.
00:50I'm a stealer guy.
00:52Stoller. I'm a stoller guy.
00:54I mean, but I've been constantly surprised throughout the years, even with rentals,
01:00how little you have to pay sometimes to get an established player in this league.
01:05GMs love their draft picks.
01:07If I were a GM, I would have a hard time resisting trade offers for draft picks,
01:13especially a sixth in the next draft and a second two years down the road to get something right now.
01:19Because as a GM, I want to make sure, A, I've got the sure thing.
01:24And B, a pick two years down the road might not help me if I'm fired.
01:29Well, right now, it's super easy to say the Cowboys won the trade because they're the one that has the
01:32player that can contribute right now.
01:34But it's a player the Cowboys needed desperately.
01:37And he will help the Cowboys defense.
01:40And by all accounts, last week on short practice, he helped the Cowboys defense a lot.
01:47What does this do for Pittsburgh?
01:48It just kicks the can down the road.
01:50And it's not even next year you get to enjoy the second round pick.
01:52You've got to wait two more another year after that before you get to see the benefits of it.
01:56I think this is just the latest in a long run of really questionable and head-scratching moves the Steelers
02:03have made as an organization,
02:04where prior to that, they were the pinnacle of how to operate as a franchise.
02:10Now it's like, what are they doing?
02:12And this is, yeah, just the latest of it.
02:15I think it's really dumb what they did.
02:16And I think the Cowboys benefited.
02:18And I'm pissed because, like Doug said, the Lions are real losers because they were the ones that should have
02:21gotten Joey Porter Jr.
02:23Yeah, I mean, I actually think both teams benefited from this.
02:25But I will give the edge to the Cowboys.
02:27They got a player right now, a young player, that maybe, just maybe, they extend as well.
02:32But they're looking for help in the current situation they're in right now.
02:35The Steelers, you're right, Gator.
02:36I thought it's their dumb rule about not negotiating during the season.
02:41But at least they were able to get a second round pick for a guy they weren't playing anyways.
02:45I know, albeit the second round pick is two years from now, it's still a pick.
02:48The Cowboys, they have a good offense.
02:50And they want to shore up their secondary, and they did that.
02:52People often make fun of Jerry Jones, and rightfully so, most of the time.
02:56But he actually has made some pretty good moves lately.
02:58Parsons' deal is turning out to be quite a deal.
03:01They got Quinton Williams.
03:02They used some draft capital here and there.
03:04They got Caleb Williams, young defensive help.
03:05Ah, Caleb, I'm sorry.
03:06Caleb Downs.
03:07And another defensive end.
03:09The George Pickens move is also something that's helped them as well for their offense.
03:13So, Jerry making moves.
03:14And I think he's short on time.
03:16He wants to win a Super Bowl very quickly here, very soon.
03:18Let's go.
03:21All right, another trade.
03:23The Philadelphia Eagles traded guard slash center Cam Jurgens in a 2027 seventh-round pick
03:29to the Baltimore Ravens for a 2027 fifth-round pick and a 2028 second-round pick.
03:33Who won this trade?
03:35I'm going to use the same logic.
03:36I think the Ravens did.
03:37They got the player they need.
03:38And what Philadelphia did just looked like they just signaled the start of maybe a fire sale in Philly.
03:44Is that what's going on?
03:45Lane Johnson retires.
03:46You just traded away Cam Jurgens.
03:48It's two-fifths of your offensive line that was once vaunted as the top offensive line in all of football.
03:54Now they're in shambles.
03:55The Ravens needed desperately to add an offensive lineman, specifically a center, and they just did it.
04:01You know, this is a Baltimore team that's already 3-1, and they're trying to strengthen this team.
04:06And they just did.
04:07I think the Ravens won this one easily.
04:08Well, to talk about who won the trade, you've got to talk about who lost the trade, and I'll tell
04:12you who didn't win it, and that was Detroit.
04:15With excess interior offensive linemen, Baltimore, can I interest you in a gently used juice Scruggs?
04:21Would have been nice.
04:23Now, Baltimore didn't give up a member of the secondary, which is what Detroit really needs.
04:27And you know who won the trade?
04:29Detroit!
04:30Because Philly, as you put it, might be in rebuild mode.
04:34They're a wild card candidate, and if you're going to eliminate one of the teams that's in contention for the
04:41wild card, I'm cool with that.
04:42So that's one less team Detroit might have to beat out, if indeed they are rebuilding.
04:47But to answer your question directly, I think Baltimore won it, getting the player in a position of need.
04:52Yeah, this is another one where I feel like both teams won again, but picking one, having to pick one,
04:57I will get the slight edge to the Ravens.
04:59The thing is, though, Jurgens, he's really struggled since his injury and moving to guard for Philly.
05:04Like, when he was good with Philadelphia, he was a center.
05:07If you do the deep diet, he's actually been terrible since he recently signed his four-year $68 million extension
05:12and moved to guard.
05:14So this is not the big give-up that everyone thinks it is.
05:17And the Eagles are about to pay the piper at some point.
05:19All these big salaries, they're going to have to shed some, and he's an underperforming player, and they get to
05:23shed that salary, which is big for them.
05:24They also received some solid draft capital.
05:26So, meanwhile, the Ravens, yeah, you said it, Gator.
05:30They're down to, like, their third or fourth string center.
05:32They needed a center badly, and they might get a Pro Bowl center in Jurgens because he's just much better
05:36at center.
05:37They need a body because of all the attrition, and they're 3-1.
05:39They're definitely not out of it.
05:40They want to go for it.
05:42This might be the exact player they needed.
05:46All right, both the Texans and Chargers are 0-4.
05:48Are they both really that bad?
05:51So Houston's defense has been a massive disappointment.
05:54They are near the bottom of the league in points allowed, and with those pass rushers, it's surprising.
05:59And there might be a lesson learned here, and we'll get to that later.
06:02But the Chargers, they might start four rookie offensive linemen this weekend.
06:07I think the Chargers are authentically, yes, that bad.
06:10Houston, I could see turning it around a little bit.
06:14But they're both not this bad.
06:16I don't think the – I'm a little surprised both teams are 0-4.
06:18I'm a lot surprised that Houston's 0-4 because they do have a really good defensive line.
06:23They do get after the quarterback.
06:24But it sounds familiar with what we have here in Detroit where maybe on the back end you're not as
06:29good.
06:30The next thing you know, you've got issues, even though they've got a really good corner, but that's one guy.
06:35But what they don't have is a quarterback issue, not like what the Chargers do.
06:39They've banked everything on Justin Herbert.
06:41Herbert, he's thrown more interceptions than he has touchdowns this year.
06:45Their offense is completely anemic, and maybe it is just as simple as that their offensive line is banged up,
06:50and I do recognize that.
06:51I don't want to just completely bag on Justin Herbert, even though I'm not a fan.
06:56But they can't run the ball.
06:57They can't do anything offensively whatsoever, and their defense isn't good either.
07:03So I'm giving Houston a little bit more grace because they've also played a tougher schedule to start the season.
07:08They've played some tighter games, but the Chargers just look completely lost.
07:13So I think they are both that bad because I'm just going to judge them by their record, and you
07:16are what your record says you are, right?
07:18So apparently they are bad.
07:19I mean, the Texans, they're supposed to hang their hat on their defense, but now it's failing them.
07:24They've given up over 109 points or over 100 points, 109 total exactly.
07:28D'Amico Ryans has taken over the play calling defensively.
07:31That's not a good sign.
07:33They just aren't getting anything from the offense as far as the run game.
07:36I know they signed Monty in the offseason.
07:37He had the first good game, but then after that, he's been non-existent.
07:41Stroud is throwing the ball too much because they have no running game, and that's not good news.
07:44I like Stroud, but he has regressed the last few years.
07:47And the Chargers, they've completely regressed their offense under Mike McDaniel.
07:51That just has not worked out, and I'm wondering if they make a change at some point.
07:55Herbert, he absolutely looks the part of this great quarterback, big body.
07:59He can run.
08:00He has a big arm, but he's never had any real success, no postseason success.
08:04And is that his fault?
08:05Is that the team's fault?
08:06Now injuries are mounting with this team, the offensive line.
08:09They can't score.
08:10They can't play defense.
08:11I don't think either team is making the playoffs.
08:15Okay, the Vikings, the opposite.
08:17They're actually 4-0.
08:18Are they really that good?
08:22No, they're not.
08:23They have no offense to speak of.
08:25They've scored, what, one touchdown in the last few weeks, and it was, I think, on special teams.
08:32They're terrible.
08:33They're second to last in scoring, which is a real problem.
08:36Now the defense is legit, but how long can the defense keep carrying this team,
08:40and how long can they keep getting lucky by being good enough to get field goal range and beat teams?
08:46I think this is likely a 500 team.
08:49They have real quarterback issues for them to go ahead and say, Kyler Murray's going to be our savior.
08:54I mean, it's amazing.
08:56They had quarterbacks that actually worked there, and they let go, and they've taken chances on the bright, shiny thing.
09:01Or, hey, what's in the box?
09:03You don't know.
09:03It could be a boat.
09:04I mean, it's just ridiculous what they've done.
09:07But I see them as barely a 500 team when all is said and done.
09:11Are they that good?
09:12No, they're not.
09:13Their offense sucks.
09:14And I believe offense wins championships, 262 yards per game, last in the NFL.
09:19The Viking offense has scored one touchdown since the opener.
09:23They also got a special teams touchdown.
09:25But that's one touchdown since the opener.
09:28Now, if they win big, like they go to the Super Bowl and the metrics don't change,
09:31and it's led by their defense with zero offense,
09:34I'll back off my belief a little bit that offense wins championships.
09:37But I think in the end, their offense will cost them.
09:40So I'm going to answer this question with a question.
09:43Oh.
09:43Yes?
09:46Because, listen, they're not undefeated good, clearly.
09:49But I go back to it.
09:50You are what your record says you are.
09:52And they are 4-0 and they are undefeated.
09:54There is no question the Vikings defense is that good.
09:57The question is, is the offense good enough to compliment them?
09:59And so far, they have been.
10:01You could say whatever you want.
10:02Get in field goal range.
10:03Buy a special team, such a, whatever.
10:05In the end, you find a way to win.
10:07Dan Campbell says it all the time.
10:08And they have found a way to win.
10:10In my opinion, they have the best pure wide receiver in the game in Jamar Jefferson.
10:13Kyler Murray, I think, is just good enough.
10:15He's definitely better than Max Brosmer and J.J. McCarthy, who led that team last year to a 9-8
10:20record.
10:20I think the Vikings get into the playoffs.
10:23So, they're not undefeated good.
10:25But they already got a head start with 4-0.
10:27I think they get in.
10:31Alright, last week, after the Rams scored the go-ahead touchdown in Philadelphia,
10:35some of the Rams' assistant coaches in the booth got into it with the fans.
10:39They're exchanging double birds with each other.
10:41The coaches started banging on the glass.
10:43A fan even threw a drink at the booth.
10:45If the fans started this whole thing, is it okay for the coaches to respond?
10:48No, just call security.
10:50The fans will get there.
10:51They'll probably get banned from the stadium.
10:53So, that's a W for you if that's what you're after.
10:56And it's easy to say because emotions get in the way.
10:59But you know what this is?
11:00This is the real-life equivalent of don't hit send.
11:05Just let it play out.
11:07Let security know and get the hell out of there with your win.
11:10Look, should they ignore it?
11:11Of course they should, right?
11:13They're public figures to a degree.
11:14You should know better.
11:16But unfortunately, Doug and Kang and everybody out there, in today's society, we kind of
11:22lack decorum to speak.
11:25So, it's hard to say that we're really better than that when are we really better than that
11:30when you have examples left, right, and center, more right, where things are going on, where
11:35people just don't care about anybody else.
11:39So, you can only take so much verbal abuse as well in this thing.
11:44I mean, part of me loves what they did, but the bigger part of me says you can't let it
11:48get out of hand like this.
11:50But it is Philadelphia, and I think that's part of, it's expected when you go to Philly that the fans
11:55are going to react like that anyway.
11:56So, is it okay to respond?
11:58No.
11:59All right.
12:00I said you should be better than that.
12:01Okay.
12:01Well, I think it is okay, but only in Philly.
12:03Because those fans are crazy.
12:05Everywhere else, control yourselves.
12:06Come on, don't react.
12:07But Philly, that fan base is just awful.
12:09You guys want to dish it out, Philly?
12:11You got to be able to take it, too.
12:13But, of course, you can't, because now you're going to, I don't know if the NFL is going to come
12:16down with fines or whatever,
12:17but McVay said they'll be better and they won't do it again.
12:23All right.
12:24Kyle Jusik and Jake Ferguson.
12:26They both won their appeals regarding their drinking slash chugging celebrations.
12:30If you had to do a food or drink related celebration after scoring a touchdown, what would it be?
12:35All right.
12:35So, initially, I thought beer bong would be a lot fun.
12:38You know, you get your teammates together and they pretend that they're holding the bong up in the air.
12:42You get down on your knees and you're right.
12:43And then I realized, well, it looks awful.
12:45And on top of that, I'm probably going to get suspended or not suspended.
12:51I'll get fined.
12:52And I like money, so that's not going to happen.
12:54So, I decided I'll go on the food side and I'm going to be a make it a pizza.
12:59We're going to get the dough and we're going to spin the dough.
13:03Limit up in the air.
13:04Catch it.
13:04Hey.
13:06Yeah, I was trying to think of all my favorite foods and I'm not quite sure how I can mimic
13:10what I like.
13:12Oh, God.
13:13No one can mimic what you like.
13:13The only thing was a chicken wing, but even that would look weird.
13:17So, I think you said I got it right with the, I'm a screw top Miller-like kind of guy.
13:22The big wide mouth, 16 ounce can.
13:24Maybe I'd use a prop and pay the fine.
13:27That's the only thing I could think of.
13:29So, I would do a Japanese steakhouse celebration.
13:32That's right.
13:32I'm gathering all my teammates around me as if I were the habachi chef.
13:35Right?
13:35They're sitting around the table, maybe doing a little onion volcano, maybe bounce and spin an egg on my spatula.
13:40Let's go!
13:40Yep, and then I would use the football like a squeeze bottle and pretend to squeeze sake into all my
13:45teammates' mouths one by one.
13:46You get a shot, you get a shot, you get a shot.
13:49I feel like I'm a Kyoto right now.
13:50Yeah, double fried rice all day.
13:52There it is.
13:53That concludes the Y9 Omaha four down around the league blitz thingy.
