00:00Egyptian authorities are accusing six journalists of terrorism-related charges in a case sparking
00:06fresh concerns over press freedom.
00:09The journalists are the entire newsroom of Madsadash, an independent Egyptian fact-checking
00:15platform whose name means, don't believe it.
00:18They were arrested in raids across several areas on September 28th and 29th.
00:24Prosecuted alleged journalists were working for the Outlawed Muslim Brotherhood, receiving
00:29foreign funding and publishing what authorities called false news to undermine state institutions
00:34and fuel protests.
00:37But Madsadash and its co-founder, activist Abdurrahman Mansour, denied the allegations.
00:43The Egyptian Initiative for Personal Rights says the journalists also reported being tortured
00:48after the arrests, claims denied by Egypt's interior ministry.
00:52Rights and press freedom groups have condemned the arrests and called for their release.
00:57If convicted of belonging to the Muslim Brotherhood, the journalists could face up to life in
01:02prison.
01:03See you next time.
01:03Take care.
