Hamish Falconer, the UK’s chief negotiator with Brussels, warns that excluding Britain from the EU’s ‘Made in Europe’ industrial policy risks fracturing the common industrial base and making Europe ‘weaker’.

00:01Europe risks weakening its industries if the UK is shut off from European supply chains as a result of the
00:08EU's Made in Europe policy.
00:09The UK's Minister for European Relations has told Euronews.
00:13Falconer said that maintaining open supply chains was strongly in the EU and UK's interests.
00:19If we were to fracture that industrial base, that would simply mean a weaker Europe, both in the UK and
00:25in the EU.
00:26The EU wants to shield its domestic industries from unfair foreign competition by introducing a preference for European manufacturers in
00:34public contracts.
00:35The proposal is seen as a response to China's state-subsidised competition.
00:40But opinions are divided over what qualifies as European and whether non-EU companies can be treated on an equal
00:47footing with their EU counterparts.
00:48The European industrial base is shared. We're the second largest export market for the EU.
00:57We're the largest recipient of new EU vehicles, many of which are partially constructed in the UK.
01:03It would not be in either of our interests to see new barriers arising in our economic relations.
