Rescue workers continued to search through rubble as the death toll rose to 22 after an overnight Russian strike hit Pryluky, in Ukraine’s Chernihiv region, killing five children and injuring over 54 people, Ukraine’s State Emergency Service said on Thursday.

Rescuers saved 15 people, including one child and are still clearing through the rubble as search continues for the missing.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy recently warned that intelligence services had concluded that Russia was building up for a "massive" strike.

“This is the ‘gift’ that Putin gave himself for his birthday: the killing of children, the killing of people,” Zelenskyy stated on Wednesday.

Russia’s Defense Ministry stated that the military carried out a massive strike overnight targeting industrial facilities involved in the production and storage of missiles and drones across Ukraine.

The ministry said that port and ship repair facilities in the southern Odesa region and ships carrying cargo for the Ukrainian military were also hit. ( Video courtesy of State Emergency Services of Ukraine, Associated Press )
