Catholic Mass Today I Daily Holy Mass I Thursday October 8 2026 I English Holy Mass
Transcript
00:13In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, the Lord be with you.
00:20Welcome to Mass, wherever you might be, as we have this great privilege of celebrating the Eucharist together.
00:28So, let us stand in God's presence for a moment now, and whilst we thank him for the incredible gifts
00:34we've been given,
00:35we do take a moment now to take a look at our own lives and ask his pardon for those
00:41times that we've failed.
00:46Lord, you are our model of forgiveness. Lord, have mercy.
00:51Lord, you are our model of generosity and kindness. Christ, have mercy.
00:58Lord, you are our model of unconditional love. Lord, have mercy.
01:05May Almighty God have mercy on us, forgive us our sins, and bring us to life everlasting.
01:12Let us pray.
01:16Almighty and ever-living God, who in the abundance of your kindness surpasses the merits and the desires of those
01:24of us who entreat you,
01:27pour out your mercy upon us to pardon what our conscience dreads, and to give what prayer does not even
01:36dare to us.
01:37We ask this through Christ our Lord.
01:44In our first reading today, St. Paul tells the Galatians often, no holds barred really, about their going back to
01:58the law rather than the love of Christ.
02:03Are you people in Galatia mad?
02:07Has someone put a spell on you in spite of the plain explanation you have heard of the crucifixion of
02:17Jesus Christ?
02:19Let us ask you one question.
02:23Was it because you practised the law that you received the Spirit?
02:28Or because you believed what was preached to you?
02:33Are you foolish enough to end in outward observances, or what you began in the Spirit?
02:42Have all of your favours you have received been wasted?
02:48And if this were so, they would most certainly have been wasted.
02:54Does God give you the Spirit so freely and work miracles among you because you practised the law?
03:01Or because you believed what was preached to you?
03:06A word of the Lord.
03:09And our response to the psalm today is,
03:12Blessed is the Lord God of Israel, for he has come to his people.
03:18Blessed is the Lord God of Israel, for he has come to his people.
03:24God has raised up for us a mighty Saviour in the heart of David, his servant,
03:30as he promised by the lips of holy ones, those who were his prophets from the world.
03:37Blessed is the Lord God of Israel, for he has come to his people.
03:42A Saviour who would free us from our foes, from the hands of all the haters,
03:46so his love for our fathers is fulfilled, and his holy covenant remembered.
03:53Blessed is the Lord God of Israel, for he has come to his people.
03:59He swore to Abraham our father,
04:02Grant us that free from fear and safe from the hands of our foes,
04:06we might serve him in holiness and justice all the days of our life in his presence.
04:12Blessed is the Lord God of Israel, for he has come to his people.
04:17And we greet the Gospel.
04:20Hallelujah, hallelujah.
04:22Open our hearts, O Lord, to listen to the words of your Son.
04:26Hallelujah.
04:31The Lord be with you.
04:33A reading from the Holy Gospel according to Luke.
04:40Jesus said to his disciples,
04:42Suppose one of you has a friend,
04:45and goes to him in the middle of the night to say,
04:50My friend, lend me some loaves,
04:53because a friend of mine on his travels has just arrived at my house,
04:58and I have nothing to offer him.
05:01And the man answers from inside the house,
05:06Don't bother me.
05:09The door is closed now,
05:11and my children and I are in bed.
05:13I cannot get up to give it to you.
05:17Well, I tell you,
05:18if the man does not get up and give it to him for friendship's sake,
05:25persistence will be enough
05:26to make him get up and give his friend all he wants.
05:33And so I say to you,
05:35Ask and it will be given to you.
05:38Search and you will find.
05:40Knock and the door will be opened to you.
05:43For the one who asks always receives.
05:46The one who searches always finds.
05:48And the one who knocks will always have the door open to them.
05:53What father among you would hand his son a stone
05:57when he asked for bread?
06:01Or hand him a snake if he asked for fish?
06:04Or hand him a scorpion if he asked for an egg?
06:08For if you then, who are evil,
06:10know how to give your children what is good,
06:12how much more will the Heavenly Father
06:15give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him?
06:22The Gospel of the Lord.
06:31Blessed be you, Lord God of all creation.
06:33Through your goodness we have received the bread we offer you.
06:36Fruit of the earth and work of human hands.
06:38It will become for us the bread of life.
06:47By the mystery of this water and wine,
06:49may we come to share in the divinity of Christ,
06:54who humbled himself to share in our humanity.
07:06Blessed be you, Lord God of all creation.
07:08Through your goodness we have received the wine we offer you.
07:10The bread of the vine and work of human hands.
07:12It will become our spiritual dream.
07:17Good God, we ask you to receive us and be pleased with the sacrifice.
07:20We offer you with humble and contrite hearts.
07:23Lord, wash away my iniquity.
07:26Cleanse me from my sin.
07:28Amen.
07:41Pray now, my brothers and sisters,
07:43that my sacrifice and yours may be acceptable to God,
07:47the Almighty Fargo.
07:52Accept, O Lord, we pray, the sacrifice is instituted by your commands,
07:57and through the sacred mysteries which we celebrate with dutiful service,
08:04graciously complete the sanctifying work by which you are pleased to redeem us.
08:10And we ask this through Christ, our Lord.
08:15The Lord be with you.
08:17Lift up your hearts.
08:19Let us give thanks to the Lord, our God.
08:23It is truly right and just our duty and our salvation.
08:26All words and every word to give you thanks, Lord,
08:28Holy Father, Almighty and Eternal God,
08:31through your beloved Son, Jesus Christ, your word,
08:34through whom you made all things,
08:36whom you sent as our Saviour, Nathalema,
08:39incarnate by the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary.
08:43Fulfilling your will and gaining for you a holy people,
08:47he stretched out his hands as he endured his passion,
08:50chose to break the bonds of death and manifest the resurrection.
08:54And so with the angels and saints we declare your glory
08:57as with one voice we acclaim.
09:00Holy, holy, holy, Lord God of hosts,
09:04heaven and earth are full of your glory.
09:06Hosanna in the highest.
09:08Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord.
09:11Hosanna in the highest.
09:15You are indeed holy, O Lord, the fount of all holiness.
09:19Make holy, therefore, these gifts, we pray,
09:21by sending down your Spirit upon them like the dewfall,
09:24so that they may become for us the body and blood of our Lord Jesus Christ.
09:29At the time he was betrayed and entered willingly into his passion,
09:33he took bread and giving thanks,
09:35he broke it and gave it to his disciples,
09:37saying, take this all of you and eat of it,
09:40for this is my body which will be given up for you.
10:03In a similar way, when supper was ended,
10:05he took the chalice and once more giving thanks,
10:08he gave it to his disciples, saying,
10:09take this all of you and drink from it,
10:11for this is the chalice of my blood,
10:14the blood of the new and eternal covenant,
10:16which will be pulled out for you and for many,
10:20for the forgiveness of sins.
10:22Do this in memory of me.
10:44The mystery of faith.
10:46When we eat this bread and drink this cup,
10:49we proclaim your death, O Lord,
10:51until you come again.
10:53Therefore, as we celebrate the memorial of his death and resurrection,
10:56we offer you, Lord, the bread of life and the chalice of salvation,
11:00giving thanks that you felt as worthy to be in your presence and in your spirit.
11:06Humbly, we pray, that partaking of the body and blood of Christ,
11:09we may be gathered into one by the Holy Spirit.
11:14Remember, Lord, your church spread throughout the world.
11:17Bring her to the fullness of charity,
11:20together with Leo, our Pope, Charles, our Bishop,
11:25all the clergy and the whole of God's people.
11:28Remember also our brothers and sisters who have fallen asleep in the hope of the resurrection
11:33and all who have died in your mercy.
11:37Welcome them into the light of your face.
11:42Have mercy on us all, we pray,
11:44that with the Blessed Virgin Mary, Mother of God,
11:46St. Joseph, her spouse, the blessed apostles,
11:49and all the saints,
11:50who have pleased you throughout the ages,
11:53we may merit to be
11:54co-earsed to eternal life
11:56and may praise and glorify you through your Son,
11:59Jesus Christ.
12:02Through him and with him and in him, O God, Almighty Father,
12:06in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
12:08for glory and honour is yours
12:10for ever and ever.
12:13Let us pray now the beautiful prayer that Jesus taught us to pray.
12:18Our Father, who art in heaven,
12:21hallowed be thy name.
12:23Thy kingdom come,
12:24thy will be done,
12:26on earth as it is in heaven.
12:28Give us this day our daily bread,
12:31and forgive us our trespasses,
12:33as we forgive those who trespass against us.
12:37And lead us not into temptation,
12:39but deliver us from evil.
12:41Deliver us, Lord, we pray, from every evil.
12:44Graciously grant peace in our day.
12:46By the help of your mercy,
12:48may we always free from sin
12:50and safe from all distress,
12:52as we await the blessed hope
12:54and the coming of our Saviour,
12:56Jesus Christ.
12:59Lord Jesus Christ,
13:01who said to your apostles,
13:02Peace I leave you,
13:03my peace I give you,
13:05look not on our sins
13:07from the faith of your church,
13:09and graciously grant her peace and unity
13:12in accordance with your will,
13:14who lives and reigns forever and ever.
13:16The peace of the Lord be with you always.
13:21And let us offer each other a sign of peace.
13:24Peace now, for we may be.
13:26Peace.
13:29Lamb of God,
13:31you take away the sins of the world,
13:33have mercy on us.
13:34Lamb of God,
13:36you take away the sins of the world,
13:38have mercy on us.
13:39Lamb of God,
13:41you take away the sins of the world,
13:43grant us peace.
14:01Behold the Lamb of God,
14:03behold him who takes away the sins of the world,
14:05list of those called to the supper of the Lamb.
14:09Lord, I am not worthy
14:11that you should enter under my roof,
14:13but only say the word,
14:15and my soul shall be healed.
14:18My Jesus,
14:19I believe that you are present
14:21in the most blessed sacrament.
14:23I love you above all things,
14:25and I desire to receive you into my soul.
14:28Since I cannot now receive you sacramentally,
14:31comely, spiritually, into my heart,
14:34I embrace you as if you were already there,
14:36and unite myself wholly to you.
14:39Never permit me to be separated from you.
14:42Amen.
14:43Let us pray.
14:46Grant us, almighty God,
14:49that we may be refreshed and nourished
14:53by the sacrament which we have received,
14:55so as to be transformed
14:59into that which we consume.
15:02And we ask this through Christ our Lord.
15:05The Lord be with you.
15:07May almighty God bless you,
15:10the Father,
15:11the Son,
15:11and the Holy Spirit.
15:13Let us go in peace now
15:15to love and serve the Lord.
15:18I hope you have a very beautiful day.
15:21God bless you.
15:21God bless you.
