00:30it's a big chunk of it yeah yeah so now i i know people are going to stop and say

00:37they've got like they're the two-time defending champs yes but in late august the last time
00:42they faced chris sale whom they took on yesterday uh fail three one hit 11k shutout against the
00:51dodgers and their a lineup and they made certain adjustments and if you look in the middle of the
00:58game probably from the third inning on they put together a dozen incredible at bats they didn't
01:05score a ton of runs but they got them out they made them work the guardians just haven't been
01:13able to put together solid at bats you're not going to get hits every time you're not even going to
01:17get
01:17hits a lot of times go look at these scores that have been going on um but they've got to
01:25make a
01:25couple of these guys work because it's going to be the same exact formula that you've seen so far
01:30right it's just been a different lefty that has started it was hagan smith in game one
01:34it was anthony k in game two and they knocked him out quickly which is something we hadn't been able
01:40to do
01:40during the regular season and then today it's sean newcomb and uh newcomb has been really good
01:47against us except for one game and that was the pd half and home run and so we've got to
01:53figure out a
01:53way to grind out really good at bats make them work make them get to other pitchers a little bit
01:59quicker
02:00and they don't have a sean burke today i mean they've got some other guys that have pitched well but
02:06burke is
02:07far and away their best starting pitcher throughout the season so you know that's the hope is there
02:13anything you would do with the lineup or would you just keep going with the lineup that you know he
02:17used in game two even yeah it's you know i'm not
02:24i love david fry and what he's done for this team that that's not the answer you know nathaniel lowe
02:31has put together better at bats i liked him being in the starting lineup even though there was a
02:35possibility that he was going to have to face k in the in the first inning um
02:42it ended up that he faced nuke nukem anyway and you know is that that was the only one that
02:47that drove in any runs so i'm just not sure that there's anything else you can do for people that
02:52are clamoring to move jose down great tell me who you're going to move up we've got seven hips guys
02:59through two games nobody is tearing the cover off the ball ron darling was just with us chris
03:05and i asked ron okay you're on the mound how are you going to go up against this lineup
03:11um what concerns you about it and he mentioned only two things he said if jose is himself i'm being
03:19really careful and he said but i don't think he is so i'm going to attack him and he said
03:24i want to
03:25keep joe adele in the ballpark didn't mention anything else and unfortunately i think that's
03:29kind of where this team is right now how how can you manufacture runs what what is there anything
03:36you think steven vote should be doing in this situation because you know although joe was
03:41terrible he he showed you what he could do you know perhaps got really close to the home run
03:46to tie it up and jose doesn't look like himself if you're steven what are you doing nothing it's up

03:53the players this is not this isn't he's not an offensive coordinator calling plays and scheming
03:59guys open you know this is this is baseball where you've got to win your one-on-one battle when

04:05in the batter's box it's just it's that simple it's uh you know kwan's gotta get on um you know

04:14hit a really solid ball that antonacci made a good play on uh i thought that was him maybe it

04:23that wasn't him but he had one where where k made a good play uh that would have started in

04:30i think with a hit in game one maybe you know they've got to catch a break i mean look

04:38numbers were significantly better after the trade deadline yes they were they were offensively but go
04:44do a little bit of a deeper dive we had 16 series after the all-star break four of them
04:51were against
04:51teams that made the playoffs we had one against chicago we had two against chicago one against
04:56boston and there was one other one out there that i forget but most of it was against kind of
05:03the
05:03dregs of the league um you know we played anaheim we played the a's we played at the rockies we
05:10played
05:11the giants we played the royals we played like a bunch of the worst teams in baseball so you just
05:18have
05:18to understand that those numbers when people say well hold on look at our offense but it wasn't
05:23against the pitching we're now facing and so that's you know now we're kind of getting back to where we
05:29were a little bit before the trade deadline i'm still hopeful because things can change in a second
05:34i mean i don't know if you saw last night's san diego milwaukee series but it just feels like
05:40this thing is going to go back to milwaukee and that's what we got to do we got to win

05:47um just in general chris do you like these bullpen games i don't know that i do i just as
05:52a fan i like
05:53being able to walk into a great pitching battle instead of knowing that oh this guy might pitch an
05:58inning or man that guy just struck three guys out why did they take you know i just i start
06:01watching
06:02the game like that and i'm like i don't know if i really like this i mean if they win
06:05i'll love it
06:06but do you like it well unfortunately it's the way the game has gone right there's there's so many
06:13pitchers that throw a hundred now like when we were growing up when somebody threw a hundred you
06:19were like the world stopped and now it's you have multiple guys in your pen that can do that and
06:30why wouldn't you use those guys right particularly with the way that the postseason is spaced out
06:37this has been a it's kind of neutered our best advantage is having messick and williams they have
06:45not needed their best starting pitcher came in as their what third pitcher pitcher the other day
06:54and you know you can think of it that way that sean burke gave you starter innings they call them
07:00bulk innings now but that's essentially what happened i mean you did get to see a great starting
07:06pitching performance he just happened to be third that day so i think it's just the way the game has
07:11changed a bit um if chicago does advance i'll be really curious to see how that would hold up in
07:19the
07:19next round presumably against tampa because the schedule is much tighter once they start they would
07:25have to play the first five games in six days and will venable won't be able to go to his
07:31same guys
07:31every day the way that he can here against us but we'll see if they end up sweeping they're going
07:36to have some time off and then they can figure that out chris rose joining us uh john boy media
07:43is baseball today and of course you see chris on the nfl network every weekend doing a great job
07:48with the game day final which by the way i enjoy thoroughly um travis bazana has looked good
07:55defensively at second base chris i think in this series and has done a nice job and i i i
08:02know we're
08:03looking at game three i keep wondering about next year and where you're gonna where you're gonna do
08:08with him and now and rocchio and i shouldn't be doing that right now but i am but i i
08:14think his defense
08:15is coming around a little bit would you agree with that or no yeah he has played significantly better
08:23um yeah they've got three guys for two spots so they're gonna have to figure that one out
08:27because i think i i love now's versatility in the lineup i think he's a really good athlete
08:33and he's got some good really good solid pop the fact that he's a switch hitter
08:38is really important uh particularly for this lineup rocchio had a great year and has been a totally
08:45different player since they sent him down in the summer of 2025 so they've got a hard decision
08:50uh for people who say well it's simple just kick bazana to the outfield it's not that simple it
08:57really isn't and he doesn't have a great arm so unless you want people constantly running on one
09:06of your corner outfielders then i wouldn't suggest that but that's it's a decision they're gonna have
09:11to make i don't know if that means that a trade has to happen or what but you know those
09:16are three
09:16guys that can contribute at this level for two spots in my opinion um because jose's not going
09:23anywhere so yeah good luck with that one yeah i agree with you once they once they get back from
09:30the lockout they can figure that out all right let's change gears here i don't know if you've
09:34noticed this or not but your football team is three and one three and one three and one three and
09:41won yeah we got the jets this week man i thunk it i love the confidence going into this week

09:53then we've got the titans so dream big people um the fun thing about winning on thursday night is that
10:01as a fan you can do two things you can either go spend the entire day with your family and
10:06have a
10:07clear conscience uh you know you're one or two times a year the other one being during your bye
10:12week or you can watch everybody else play which i have to do anyway every week so i think it
10:18allowed
10:18people to kind of figure out well all right we're three and one you know we beat the bucks who
10:24haven't
10:24won a game we beat the panthers and we just beat the steelers which we always do at home and
10:30particularly on thursday night anyway so how good are we and then i think you watch the rest of the
10:35league and you went there aren't many teams that are significantly better than the browns and that's
10:41the way i honestly feel i really do um i think if you go around the league i think buffalo
10:46is
10:47is significantly better i think the ravens when lamar is healthy are are better um i think jacksonville's
10:56better i think they're a really really good team and i think the chiefs are denver is probably better
11:03but i think they've got some shortcomings and other than that in the afc i i'm not going to put
11:09teams miles ahead of of where we are uh i think we have to run the ball significantly better i'm

11:17little worried about that part of our game but i i think the biggest story to be honest with you
11:22outside of the quarterback which we've talked about is the fact that the defense has done a full shift
11:28after week one played too much zone week one got super aggressive after that and has looked really
11:39really good i think what rudy has done and the fact that players have turned things on particularly i
11:45think the biggest surprise is that the defensive line is getting as much pressure with just four
11:49as it is because that's a game changer fingers crossed on mason graham yeah yeah i mean if they
11:58somehow can get through these next three games with a winning record without him and have him back then
12:03for a pittsburgh game or something like that that would be nothing short of a miracle i mean i hope
12:10he's okay because he was he was being a big difference maker there he's been he's been fun to watch

12:16yep it's fun and it's nice not just watching saturday college football saying okay well how high are we
12:23going to have to move up to go draft this guy like we deserve to have meaningful football in december
12:29and
12:29january and hopefully that happens are you are you working or watching at one o'clock your time today
12:37well you know i do with every game i have to sit there and watch them all um so it'll
12:43be a long day
12:44because we we do a live edition of baseball today right well it eventually ends up being baseball
12:50tonight i guess this is what you'd call it we'll probably start our show at midnight pacific time
