00:00Nobody knew how long this wild parrot had been hanging from this basketball hoop.
00:04Just that he needed help. Fast.
00:06When wildlife rescuer Oscar arrived, the Corella was still tangled around the rim.
00:11I heard about this Corella. It was a very rainy, windy, cold day.
00:15Pretty terrible conditions. This rescue was at an army barrack.
00:19Oscar set up a ladder, while duty officer Morgan,
00:23who was stationed at the army base, held it steady from below.
00:26I did hear a lot of distressed shrieking, both from the Corella that was trapped initially
00:30and from its other flock mates around, so they were visibly concerned for this bird.
00:38So now he's balancing on a slippery ladder, trying to hold a terrified wild bird
00:43and cut him free at the same time. Not exactly easy.
00:51The netting was so tangled that Oscar quickly realized he couldn't safely remove it.
00:56While they were both still up there.
01:01When there's birds, you need to press their wings together to sort of calm them down and stop them
01:05from flapping around and possibly injuring themselves.
01:08So instead, he cut the whole section away from the hoop and carefully brought the bird down with it.
01:14And luckily, a vet was already there.
01:16The vet did a full body condition assessment with it.
01:19Despite everything he'd been through, his neck and wings looked good.
01:22And he'd somehow managed to avoid any serious injuries.
01:25Which meant he was ready to go home.
01:27And when he flew away, it feels like he was thankful to me,
01:31even though all he did was go back to his freedom.
01:33The release is often the best part of any rescue.
01:36I think it's really heartwarming and it's the reason why we do all of this.
01:39It was.
