The right ventricle is one of the heart's four chambers, but it isn't simply a smaller version of the left ventricle.

It receives deoxygenated blood from the right atrium and pumps it through the pulmonary valve into the pulmonary artery, sending blood toward the lungs for oxygenation.

Because the pulmonary circulation is a relatively low-pressure system, the right ventricle has a thinner wall and is structurally and mechanically different from the left ventricle.
