00:00The most anticipated decision in European football has finally dropped.
00:04The Premier League has found Manchester City guilty of over 100 breaches of financial fair
00:10play.
00:10A lot of people were just expecting a multi-million pound fine, but the truth is, this verdict
00:16puts the club's entire future on the line.
00:18It could result in the club being stripped of historic titles and even direct relegation
00:23to the second tier.
00:24Well, to kick this whole story off, we really need to understand the case.
00:30City was found guilty on 115 charges related to breaches of financial fair play regulations.
00:38The Premier League set up an independent commission to hear these cases and determine whether the
00:43allegations against City had merit.
00:45And this commission found that between the 2009-2010 and 2017-2018 seasons, so remember
00:53this period because it's very important, Manchester City arranged sham contracts, fake ones with
01:00multiple commercial partners.
01:02It also filed falsified accounts and hid the true financial situation from its auditors and
01:08football regulators.
01:10It significantly breached spending limits set by both the Premier League and UEFA for European
01:15competitions.
01:16And during the Premier League's investigation, it committed multiple breaches of its duties
01:21to cooperate and act in good faith with the league.
01:24In other words, City is in deep trouble.
01:27The Premier League claims that City disguised the equivalent of over 6 billion reais to circumvent
01:33financial fair play.
01:34And so they will decide on a punishment in light of this.
01:38According to the league, City's creative accounting resulted in a cost reduction of 900 million pounds.
01:45In other words, what does all of this mean?
01:48City actually received one amount and declared another.
01:52All just to skirt around financial fair play and actually invest more than what was allowed
01:58under the spending limits set by both the Premier League and UEFA.
02:02And the consequence of that is putting together stronger teams, having greater competitiveness,
02:07and with that obviously down the line cashing in and winning more titles.
02:17This illegal action committed by Manchester City will of course have consequences.
02:23And right now there's already massive pressure behind the scenes for them to be enforced even
02:28before the end of the season.
02:31And among these possibilities are relegation to the championship England's second division.
02:36Not playing in international competitions for a long time, always starting the Premier
02:40League with a points deduction.
02:41To also prevent the team from contending for the title again in two or three seasons.
02:46To face severe transfer market restrictions that wouldn't allow City to make major investments.
02:51And consequently signings.
02:53So, there's a complex package of consequences here that not only could, but should hit City.
03:01For example, look here.
03:02Manchester City's rivals demand severe punishment from the Premier League.
03:06Executives from other clubs believe that relegation to the championship won't be enough.
03:10So let's look at some possible punishments that Manchester City could face here.
03:15Sanctions could include a fine, points deduction, suspension, and even expulsion from the Premier
03:20League, according to the organization's regulations, of course.
03:24The decision will be up to an independent Premier League Commission.
03:27So that's the next step in this whole case, right?
03:29The regulations don't specifically mention stripping any titles won.
03:34But there's a clause in there, right?
03:36A sub-clause which makes it clear that there can be a combination of sanctions or the application
03:42of, quote, any other penalty deemed appropriate, unquote.
03:46In other words, the independent commission could indeed decide to strip Manchester City of some
03:51of its titles during the period of the alleged breaches which took place between 2009 and 2018.
03:58Besides that, you know, a points deduction could be applied at the time of the decision or even
04:04retroactively, right?
04:05Which would open up the possibility of City losing these trophies.
04:08During the period in question, between 2009 and 2018, Manchester City won the Premier League
04:14three times.
04:15Besides that, they won an FA Cup three League Cup titles and two Community Shields as well.
04:23On the other hand, and this is really curious, second division executives in England are against
04:29Manchester City being relegated.
04:31The championship executive told British television that if City were relegated following the Premier
04:36League charges, the second tier would not benefit at all.
04:39Because look, if you simply relegate Manchester City, they have the squad structure and players
04:43to bounce back really quickly, right?
04:45And that'll be one less spot, there'll be less competition for a place in the top flight.
04:48So this idea of relegating City, for many, and I agree with this take, is kind of a lenient
04:53punishment, right?
04:54Because City will go down and they'll bounce right back and that's it.
04:57After two or three seasons, everything goes back to how it was before.
05:00This punishment needs to be longer, bigger, and I think gradual, right?
05:04Year by year.
05:05And there's even a quote here from the director saying, what benefit would the championship
05:09gain from Manchester City's relegation?
05:12Absolutely none.
05:13Their budget is so massive that they would simply steamroll the second division and they
05:17go straight back off.
05:18That's the point I just mentioned, right?
05:19That would take a promotion spot away from the other clubs.
05:22There isn't a single team in the championship that can compete with that level of wealth.
05:25So that's the point here.
05:27Simply relegating Manchester City isn't enough.
05:30Because they just bounce right back to the top flight immediately.
05:32Exactly.
05:32So looking at this, I really don't agree with the idea of just relegating Manchester City.
05:36Exactly for the reason the article points out, you know?
05:39Also in the view of championship executives, City would just bounce right back.
05:42In my opinion, the punishments, they should be divided, right?
05:47Over the course of a few seasons.
05:49Such as, for example, barring City from playing in European competitions, deducting points from
05:54Manchester City year after year.
05:55So, every year, for example, City would start with minus 30 points for 5 seasons, for 10
06:00seasons.
06:01City's only goal will be to play to stay in the top flight.
06:04They won't play in European competitions, they won't fight for the Premier League title.
06:08And then, during that period, they'll be kind of in this limbo.
06:10Because just throwing them into the second division, they'll go down, they'll be back
06:14the following year.
06:15At first, they won't compete in a European competition.
06:17But, in two years, they'll already be back to being the main powerhouse of English football.
06:21As has happened in recent years, including thanks to these frauds as well.
06:26And then, regarding these titles, right?
06:28That Manchester City won during a period covered by this punishment, and that they could lose?
06:34The main beneficiary would be Manchester United.
06:37In the 2011-2012 season, United was the runner-up with the same number of points as Manchester
06:44City, thanks to a victory by City in the final round against Queen's Park, Rangers, you probably
06:48remember that game, that comeback goal by Sergio Aguero.
06:51The goal in the final seconds, City managed to become the champions in the 2013-2014 season
06:57the runner-up was Liverpool, with a difference of just two points, right?
07:01It was that Liverpool with Suarez, that Liverpool with Gerrard.
07:05So, retroactively, that title would go to Liverpool.
07:07And in the 2017-2018 season, once again, Manchester United would be the champions.
07:13So, on that occasion, United finished 19 points behind City.
07:17It was the season when Guardiola City earned more than 100 points.
07:21It was the first title, by the way, for Pep Guardiola at the helm of City.
07:25So, City would lose these Premier League titles.
07:27So, honestly, for me, I think this would be one of the lightest possible punishments.
07:32Okay, City would lose those titles.
07:33But, I don't think that at this moment, so much later, giving the trophy to Manchester United,
07:37or to Liverpool itself, it would indeed be a severe punishment, right?
07:41The titles have already been won, they have already been celebrated.
07:44Those who experienced it can't have that taken away.
07:47And I don't think it will be a court ruling or a decision along those lines.
07:51That will take away the shine for those who lived that moment.
07:53In history, City, in fact, won't have those trophies anymore.
07:57It might be that they won't have those trophies anymore.
07:59But I, quite honestly, really downplay the real impact this has on the true punishment this could bring.
08:09Now, if there is a fact in this whole story, it's that the credibility of the Premier League is at
08:15stake following this decision.
08:17Because not punishing Manchester City paves the way and sets a precedent for any other club to do something similar.
08:24And punishing, without being as severe as the gravity of the case demands, could also show some weakness on the
08:31Premier League's part in the face of a big, influential, successful club that possesses massive investment power.
08:39And one that gives the league the kind of visibility it has.
08:43So, given the fact that the Premier League positions itself as a major benchmark, the world's Premier League, the best
08:49organized, richest league, and with the finest resources and possibilities on the planet, the punishment for Manchester City in the
08:56face of the extremely serious accusations that have already been proven, needs to be as severe as possible.
09:02So that it sends the right message and doesn't tarnish the competition's credibility.
09:13And given that Manchester City's punishment is now just a matter of figuring out what it will actually be, rather
09:20than if they'll be punished at all, there's a huge impact on the transfer market.
09:26Because think about it. Imagine a team like Manchester City not playing in the Champions League. Imagine a team like
09:31Manchester City with a 30-point deduction for five years, not fighting for the title.
09:35Imagine a team like Manchester City, even relegated to the Championship. The possibilities diminish and there is an impact, of
09:43course, on the careers of several international level players who play for City.
09:49For example, let's take a look at our database here. Look, in the Premier League's top 10 players this season
09:55so far, right? Up to the moment I'm recording this video, we have Scherke Haaland and Semenyo among the top
10:02ones.
10:03To Ifran City among the top 10 players. The league's top scorer is Haaland so far. We can see that
10:09he has a shot accuracy rate of 50%. Pretty high, right? 10 on target out of 20 shots.
10:15When we look at the assists. When we look at the assists, for example, Semenyo is right here, see? With
10:20three assists. He's the second ranked player, along with others here, with the most assists this season.
10:27In the key passes tab, we see right here that Scherke is also one of the players at the top
10:32of the competition. He's among the top six. He already has 12 key passes this season.
10:38So they are very important players for this Manchester City side. And if things head down a different path, they
10:45might not want to stay.
10:46They might look to play for another team. And it could even be that, depending on City's situation, they might
10:52have to part ways with players like that.
10:55And if they stay in the Premier League, you'll still be able to use them on the Futable Maximo Fantasy
11:00League. Not an ad.
11:01OK, it's our fantasy league. We developed it. We built it. And together with you, our community, we're mapping out

11:33this project, which is going to be really, really cool.
11:35It's already up and running. But next season, we promise it's going to be 100% perfect and excellent.
11:41Very different from City's future, Santos. We still don't know what City's future holds.
11:45You out there, what do you think City's punishment should be in light of everything that happened? Comment down below.
