A young solider has died during a military training exercise in the Northern Territory. The tragedy occurred at ‘Mount Bundey’ training area, 130 kilometres south-east of Darwin yesterday afternoon. Five other soldiers were injured during the incident.

00:16Brendan is survived by a partner and two young children. He is a much beloved junior
00:22leader in our army. His mates tell me that he would give the shirt off his back for anybody
00:27and the thing that he'll be most remembered for is the love and support that he had for his partner
00:35and his kids. Another five soldiers hospitalised following the accident. The Northern Territory
00:41supported two injured evacuations by helicopter to Royal Darwin Hospital at about 7.30 last night
00:49and another three by plane. The young soldier is the second to be killed during defence training
00:55in Australia this year. Minister for Defence Personnel Matt Keogh saying the government
01:00has been working with defence to ensure training exercises are fit for purpose.

01:09ensuring that those systems are as safe as they can be, recognising that there are
01:13unique circumstances when it comes to defence force training that mean there are
01:18high levels of risk involved. In a statement, Prime Minister Anthony Albanese said there are no
01:23safe or easy days for those who serve in our country's name. This sad incident is a terrible reminder of
01:30what families take on when their loved one bravely puts on our nation's uniform. Two soldiers remain
01:36in hospital tonight in a stable condition. The other three are being monitored at the barracks in Darwin.
