00:00So Carrie Champion called my boy Stephen A a liar, but days later her own story changed.
00:05First listen closely, Carrie starts denying she even called Stephen A, but Stephen A cuts her off before she even
00:10finished the sentence.
00:11Listen closely, you wanted the job for SportsCenter, you wanted to come back?
00:17That is not true Stephen A, I know you lying, that is not true, we are disagreeing right now.
00:24Then we'll disagree.
00:25Because let me tell you, I never call, neither do I my friend.
00:28It's quite clear she was about to say I never called, now watch what she says days later.
00:32There's a worldwide debate now suggesting I wanted Molly's job.
00:36There is no debate, she did not want that job back.
00:39I did not want that job back.
00:41And you guys all know, God bless that man, he can cap, and he can sell it too, you know
00:45what I mean?
00:45I went and looked back and I was like, I probably wanted to gossip.
00:48I probably wanted to be like, what happened?
00:49That's what I was saying, like, you didn't want the job back.
00:51I was like, I didn't want the job, I was calling to gossip.
00:53Wait a minute, hey Carrie, I thought you never called, now you called the gossip.
00:57Both stories can't be true, either you called or you didn't.
01:00You cannot call Stephen A a liar, then admit making the call he mentioned.
01:03First it was, I never called, I never called, I never called.
01:07Now days later, I was calling to gossip, I was calling to gossip, I was calling to gossip.
01:11You called, but only to gossip, that's not clarification, that's a contradiction with a costume change.
01:16Now the reason for the call could be debated, but the call itself, Carrie confirmed it happened.
01:21Stephen A was right about that.
01:22So before calling somebody else a liar, make sure your own story stays the same.
01:29Yeah, we got to talk about it, man, because Stephen A. Smith has been receiving a whole lot of pushback,
01:35you know, from folks because of said interview.
01:40But he's also been receiving a whole lot of support as well.
01:44But here's a little bit of the pushback before we get into some of the support.
01:49Check it out.
01:50I was writing a response, then it got to be way too long, so I figured I'd do a video
01:53response.
01:54So in this comment, you were saying that this is a favor to them, that Stephen A. Smith is going
01:59on this show as a favor to them.
02:00And I'm going to say no.
02:01At the most, I would say is that it was mutually beneficial, but I would argue that he actually benefits
02:06the most from coming on this show.
02:08You all are looking at this from a dollars and cents in a rating situation.
02:13Stephen A. Smith is on ESPN.
02:15He has a larger platform, a larger bullhorn that we all are saying that he uses irresponsibly.
02:21He has, you know, more viewers, obviously, because he's on ESPN.
02:25And he has this mega, crazy, big contract.
02:29But that, to me, is not all that's at play here.
02:32What's also at play here is cultural capital and the community rocking with you and trusting you and things like
02:38that.
02:38At this juncture, Stephen A. Smith is here because there's a disconnect, because the community is pissed at him.
02:44And he knows this.
02:45And I don't care what, how he performs and what all he says on the show.
02:49He cares.
02:51If you don't care about that, then to me, you aren't really part of the community.
02:57Stephen A. Smith cares that people are calling him up, that people are saying that he's not for black people,
03:02that he's attacking black women.
03:03He cares about that.
03:05He has black daughters.
03:06His oldest, who is gorgeous, we've seen her on the show before, on his podcast.
03:10He cares about that.
03:12And so he is here, in some ways, they are giving more to him in this situation, because black women,
03:19we're not mad at Jamil Hill.
03:20We like her.
03:22And so when you platform him in this way, you are sharing with that person the goodwill that you have
03:28with your audience.
03:30So, for example, I'm not going to watch the Stephen A. Smith show, but I'm going to watch it because
03:35it's this platform, and I trust them.
03:38And so that's the benefit he gets there.
03:41I think you all are seeing it as a favor because they get a lot of views from it, but
03:45I don't think they operate off of that.
03:47And that's something that Jamil Hill talks about in the episode, is that for him, everything's about strategy, to keep
03:55his job, to keep his spot on ESPN, and to keep making big bucks.
04:01So he capitulates to do that.
04:02Jamil Hill says, I don't do that.
04:05There are certain things I'm never going to do for a check, or I'm not going to be quiet about
04:10to maintain that.
04:12And so because of that, she has a cultural capital that he does not have.
04:15So he is...
04:19You just can't make this stuff up, man.
04:21None of that made any type of sense whatsoever.
04:26Stephen A. Smith has a bigger platform, so, you know, he's got to capitulate to keep KB.
04:32And Jamil Hill, she don't want to do that.
04:34If Jamil Hill didn't have an audience, she wouldn't be on a podcast talking.
04:39If her audience went to zero, I can guarantee you she wouldn't still be doing it.
04:42So, yes, she does care about keeping her audience.
04:45What are we talking about?
04:48Jamil Hill don't care about having an audience or the views.
04:53That's not how she operates.
04:54Yes, she does.
04:55Because if she wouldn't get any views, if nobody was watching, she would stop.
04:59Guarantee it.
05:02And it is not beneficial or more beneficial for Stephen A. Smith to go on their show than
05:07it is for them to have Stephen A. Smith.
05:11It's more beneficial.
05:13The situation was more beneficial for them than it was for Stephen A. Smith.
05:18They went from basically irrelevant to having a show garner almost a million views.
05:29Out of nowhere.
05:30Right?
05:31When they weren't getting even close to that before.
05:34Not even close.
05:36So, yes.
05:38It does matter.
05:39And it...
05:40Or the views does matter to Jamil Hill and Kerry Champion.
05:45But then also, it was a whole lot more beneficial for them.
05:49Stephen A. Smith's already done it.
05:51He's already there.
05:52Those are two has-beens.
05:54They're has-beens.
05:55Let's just call it what it is.
05:57They both aren't at ESPN anymore.
06:01They both aren't on cable TV anymore.
06:05Okay?
06:06Stephen A. Smith is still there.
06:07Say what you want about Stephen A. Smith.
06:09Disagree with him.
06:10I don't agree with him on everything.
06:11And I've made videos on that.
06:12But he's still on cable TV.
06:15You can still turn on ESPN and guess who you're going to see?
06:19Stephen A. Smith.
06:21Right?
06:22I was going to talk about his hairline.
06:24But, you know, I can't say much about hairlines.
06:30But, hey, you know, let's get into some more of the Stephen A. Smith's support.
06:36Check it out.
06:36We're asking you to have some nuance and we're asking for some benefit of the damn doubt.
06:40Stay who you are.
06:41What is it?
06:42What is it?
06:43What I'm saying is I don't understand.
06:44No one's asking you to change.
06:46What benefit of the doubt have you ever given Stephen A. Smith or any other black man?
06:54What benefit of the damn doubt have you ever given Stephen A. Smith or any other black man?
07:02What is this constant browbeating of black men coming from black women in elite podcast spaces
07:11that think they're the police of the black community?
07:15You can't tell Stephen A. Smith anything.
07:18He's a lot nicer to me because I'd be like, you can't tell me anything.
07:22I don't have to run nothing by you.
07:25You ain't going to run nothing by me.
07:28And all this Stephen A. Smith, you're great.
07:31We need you to.
07:33That's all manipulation.
07:36Buttering you up to do what they want you to do.
07:38They don't think Stephen A. Smith is great.
07:40They don't respect and honor him.
07:43But they realize he's a force and they can't do nothing with him.
07:46So they got to respect him.
07:47So they're trying to manipulate him.
07:49Stephen A. Smith, I hope you're not falling for this shit.
07:52I'm not.
07:53I don't.
07:53Dog, I have been.
07:54I will stand on a mountain for Stephen A.
07:56I don't know the man.
07:57But I've been a fan of his for 20 years.
07:59And I've seen him do so much.
08:01I've seen ESPN get blacker and blacker and blacker because of him.
08:06I've seen ESPN at HBCUs.
08:09All these niggas complaining in the comments.
08:11Have y'all ever done anything for HBCU to help kids go to college?
08:15Shut the fuck up there.
08:16You know why I could talk the way I talk?
08:17I wrote a letter.
08:18I spoke up for black people.
08:20And that changed my life.
08:21I'm on a podcast because I spoke up for black people.
08:23And black people telling me stop talking on the podcast.
08:26Right there, that letter I wrote.
08:27That letter, that's why it's up there.
08:28That letter changed my life.
08:30Guess what?
08:31Every black person thanked me for writing it.
08:33When they got rid of me and me over, not one black person offered me a job or a check.
08:39But guess what?
08:40That's cool.
08:40I got to feed my family.
08:42Put a mic in front of me.
08:43Now I'm feeding my family doing it this way.
08:47But it's like one of those things where we do this to each other and I'm tired of it.
08:51I'm so tired of us.
08:53Like Stephen A. is the biggest black.
08:55He's not the biggest person in media.
08:57He's not the biggest black person.
08:59He's the biggest person in sports media.
09:01We should be celebrating that he's the Michael Jordan of sports media.
09:05But we want him to be what we wanted him to be.
09:08Bro, let me tell you something.
09:09If Michael Jordan was playing today, he won't be as big as he was.
09:12Hell no.
09:13Because Michael Jordan didn't want to get into politics.
09:15He didn't want to get into it.
09:16He just wanted to play basketball.
09:18But they would have been like, no, where you stand?
09:20Democrat, Republican.
09:21Who you vote for?
09:23I live in the South.
09:24We're different down here.
09:26It's different in the South, y'all.
09:27I just want to say that it's very different down here.
09:29We get along with our white folks because they know we got guns, too.
09:33That's real.
09:34And they know you knock on my property and my door, I could blow your head up the same way
09:37you could do it in mine.
09:38And we have respect and reverence and it's cool.
09:41I just hate that.
09:42And Stephen A. is right.
09:43You can't disagree with black women as a black man in society or they will chastise you and call you
09:48all types of names outside of your name.
09:50So he's right.
09:51I just, I'm going to ride with Stephen A. because I've seen it.
09:54And there's one thing, I think he listens to us.
09:57Because I saw him do something recently where he did a video where he said, I just did a deal
10:02to bring all HBCU games to national television.
10:07So who you think I'm going to hire?
10:09Black?
10:10You think I'm going to hire white people at the HBCU?
10:12I'm hiring a number of black people.
10:13Guess who's going to be looking for jobs?
10:15Those same black people who's talking about them.
10:18That's what my problem is.
10:19You will talk about me and then right behind that say, help me, brother.
10:22Brother, don't talk about me.
10:24I'm going to help you anyway, but don't talk about me.
10:26Show me that you, you got to understand the game I'm playing.
10:29So I agree with him.
10:30Yeah.
10:31Yeah, no, I mean, it takes a big heart to shape small minds.
10:34You know what I'm saying?
10:35I love it.
10:36You know, and a lot of times.
10:38It's not like a southern pimp right there.
10:39It takes a big heart to shape minds.
10:40Where do you get that from, bro?
10:42Where do you get that from?
10:42That's real, though.
10:43You know, and, you know, we're in our position for a reason.
10:47I'm not.
10:48It takes a big heart to change small minds.
10:54I like that.
10:55I like that.
10:56And, yeah, listen, I agree with him.
10:58Because it's like, bro, why are you taking a dump on Stephen A. Smith when he's arguably the biggest figure
11:06in sports media?
11:07And he's black!
11:09You know, according to, you know, folks like the Jemele Hills of the world and the Kerry Champions, you know,
11:15black people are so destitute and, you know, the white man this and the white man that.
11:20And yet you have a black man as arguably the biggest personality in sports media.
11:28The biggest.
11:29A guy who just signed a contract, reportedly, of $100 million to get on television and talk about sports.
11:38He's getting paid, allegedly, $100 million to do so.
11:44And that's the guy you want to try to take a dump on?
11:46Really?
11:48Really?
11:52But, as he said, man, as this guy said, you know, on the Ray Daniels podcast, it'll never be enough
12:03for some folks.
12:04It's never enough.
12:06The same people that were talking trash about you will be the same people begging for a handout.
12:11It's the same thing that just happened with the Kerry Champion and the Jemele Hills situation.
12:15They were talking trash about him.
12:18And then once he came on the podcast, you know, they were all nice.
12:23But then as soon as he left again, they were talking trash about him again.
12:26And it's like, bro, he just brought so much viewership to your podcast.
12:30You made more off one video than you've made probably the past six months combined.
12:40You know what I'm saying?
12:41And you want to take a dump on that, man?
12:43It's crazy.
12:44But once again, it'll never be enough for some folks.
12:46And if they can't control what it is that you say and what you do, they don't like you.
12:52They don't like you.
12:53You can't disagree at all.
12:55And when he said that Michael Jordan wouldn't be as big as he was if he were to be playing
13:00today, I agree.
13:03Because Michael Jordan was somebody who didn't want to get into politics.
13:07Who didn't want to dive into that realm.
13:09Like he said, he just wanted to hoop.
13:11He just wanted to play basketball.
13:13And there would be a lot of people, the Cary champions and the Jemele Hills of the world specifically, most
13:19certainly would be some of the people who would have an issue with that.
13:23Oh, well, you better speak out against these Republicans.
13:26You better support these Democrats.
13:28You better do that.
13:31MJ would be sitting there like, bro, I just want to hoop.
13:35That's what I'm hearing.
13:35That's what y'all pay me to do is to play basketball.
13:39I just want to play basketball.
13:42I'm good at it.
13:44This is what y'all come to the stadium, to the arenas and pay these exorbit prices for these tickets.
13:50Y'all pay to see me hoop.
13:52That's what I want to do.
13:53I don't want to have these discussions.
13:55I don't want to talk about that.
13:56I don't want to talk about this.
13:57I don't want to do some type of sit-down interview with them because they in some politics.
14:02I don't want to sit down with the Obamas and do an interview.
14:05I don't.
14:05I just want to hoop.
14:08And people like the Cary champions and the Jemele Hills of the world would crucify that man because he said
14:16something like that.
14:17I just want to play basketball.
14:20And it's crazy.
14:22It's crazy.
14:24But anyway, y'all get into the comments.
14:27Let me know your thoughts and your opinions.
14:29If you agree, if you disagree, why or why not?
14:31Let me know.
14:32Peace and love.
14:33I'm out.
