00:00How scary do you find social media?
00:01Are you frightened by it?
00:03Because I am.
00:04Gosh, I mean, I have to say I don't have any personal relationship with social media,
00:08and I haven't for a majority of my life, and it's just a personal choice that I've made.
00:14But since doing this film, obviously, I was made aware of a lot of really scary circumstances
00:20and statistics that go along with social media.
00:23And so I was really grateful that I was able to play the character of Frances based on the real
00:30Frances Haugen,
00:31who really created a lot of powerful change in regards to social media.
00:38And I'm grateful that people like her exist.
00:41You never had Instagram or anything? That's amazing.
00:44When I was a little girl, like maybe 13, I dipped my toe in the water and tried it.
00:49But at the time, it was so different than what it is now.
00:52It was about connection.
00:57So it lived and died with me when I was 15.
01:00Scary do you find social media?
01:02I find it very scary, I think, especially for young people, for children.
01:09You know, my kids are already aware of all this stuff.
01:11They're five and seven.
01:13I want young kids to be able to live in as small a world as possible for as long as
01:18possible
01:19to get to understand themselves and know themselves before an algorithm or prompt is telling them
01:25how they should look, how they should be, what they should be behaving like.
01:30That scares me.
