We bought an abandoned house in the Japanese Alps for US$22,000, then arrived with no idea if the electricity, water, or even the plumbing would work. After nearly five months of paperwork and setbacks, we finally got the keys and spent our first day touring every room, cleaning nonstop, and figuring out what had been left behind in this forgotten mountain farmhouse.
From spider webs and bugs to old kimonos, a damaged scroll, and a shed packed with mystery, the house quickly turned into a real renovation challenge. We also explore the surrounding village, check out the mountain views, and share how we actually bought an akiya in Japan as foreigners. It’s the beginning of a big Japanese house restoration project, with a traditional home, tatami rooms, a wet-room bathroom, and plenty of rural countryside atmosphere.
Created for viewers searching for abandoned house in Japan, akiya buying guide, Japanese farmhouse renovation, and foreigner property purchase in Japan. If you enjoy renovation adventure, rural Japan travel, and real-life moving-in stories, this episode blends house tour, countryside exploration, and practical search intent around buying an old home in Japan.
This is also a useful watch for anyone interested in Japanese countryside living, abandoned Japanese homes, mountain village property, and the realities of restoring a traditional house in Japan.

00:00We're Lloyd and Mandy. We just purchased this abandoned home in the heart of the Japanese
00:06Alps for $22,000 US dollars. In this series, we'll be restoring this forgotten farmhouse
00:12into the mountain home we've always dreamed of. In this episode, we take you on a full tour of
00:18our new home and the beautiful countryside that surrounds it. We begin the daunting task of
00:23cleaning up and moving in. There's the biggest spider in the shower. Someone's left their
00:28tweezers there and the dirtiest rain cap. Ew. Oh my gosh, that was like a moth that just
00:37exploded. There's so many bugs in here. It's a nest. What sort of nest do you think it is?
00:44Wasp. And uncover a few unexpected treasures left behind. I thought maybe some of it can be salvaged.
01:00Cool. Okay, we are pulling up to the house now. I'm actually really nervous.
01:10Sorry. We have no idea what we're walking into right now. We've seen the inside of this house
01:18for a total of about 20 minutes before we bought it. We have no idea if the electricity is going
01:23to
01:23work, if the water is going to work. The owner might have left some stuff behind. We're not sure.
01:28It's been raining a lot here. We don't know if there's leaks, that type of thing. So we're a little
01:32nervous. And we're actually planning on sleeping there tonight. Which could be optimistic. But we
01:39don't really have anywhere else this day tonight. We might have to get a hotel if not. But we'll see.
01:45It's also really hot. It's the middle of summer and wet season. So it's like humid. So that's got me
01:50a
01:51little bit worried about it. Yeah. See how we go. Okay, we're pulling up now. Oh my gosh.
01:59Oh my gosh. Oh my gosh. It is so overgrown. It's like a jungle out the front. Oh my gosh.
02:05Look
02:05at all the spiderwebs.
02:19stuff's here
02:21get the vacuum
02:25oh my gosh
02:32look at the bugs
02:36wow so we ordered everything from amazon and asked for it to be shipped today because this was a day
02:42we knew we were going to get in we just told them to leave it here in the kitchen and
02:46they came
02:46around and delivered everything into the kitchen for us so we've got our vacuum cleaner mattresses
02:52bedding pillows pillows everything we need to stay the night cleaning products and it looks like we're
02:59going to need it it was not like this when we came and looked like it was definitely cleaner
03:04um i'm assuming just because the owner realized we were going to buy it they kind of just stopped
03:09cleaning because it's very dirty in here but just i guess we'll just have to get our hands dirty
03:16look at these the agent turned the power on for us so we've got to check if the power works
03:24should we check the fridge
03:27yeah so we weren't sure if this was going to be left here we were ready to buy a fridge
03:30on our own
03:31um there is a fridge here but
03:37okay spider web
03:40oh there's going to be so many spiders here isn't there yeah
03:44it works
03:48that's good hopefully it gets cold
03:53needs to clean okay i might unplug that while we clean it okay well that means the
03:57the power works that switch doesn't do anything oh yeah it did it turned on the light in the back
04:03and the kitchen yeah we got light in the kitchen
04:09okay i was not expecting that light works the bed in the living room
04:19no oh yeah
04:22fluorescent so that's going to change
04:23very bright lights awesome
04:27another one
04:30i was fully prepared for the electricity not to work
04:36ah so this is amazing what's this
04:43huh
04:48no idea what that says if anyone speaks japanese let us know in the comments what that just said
04:53yeah we have electricity for tonight what about the water yeah so um the water guy came over as
04:59well and apparently turned the water on but again the water hasn't been on for a long time
05:05so we've got to check that too
05:10here we go
05:11okay let's clean
05:16yeah
05:17we got water
05:21dirty water
05:22bit of a leak too
05:24okay well
05:26we have power and we have water
05:28that's a pretty good start we still have to contact the gas company because gas here which is for the
05:35cooker is propane
05:38it's got a very small tank but they come over and they fill it up um the agent said
05:44don't just switch it out yourself which makes sense um because it could screw something up but
05:48i think we should be right we just need to give it a really good clean okay so you're probably
05:52wondering how on earth did we end up buying this abandoned property in the japanese countryside for just
05:58us 22 000 dollars the answer is actually it was a long time in the making we found out about
06:04akea homes in japan over two years ago we were living in thailand at the time and mandy was
06:09pregnant with our daughter lila and we kind of went down a rabbit hole we found out about these
06:14abandoned homes it turns out there's over eight million abandoned homes in japan and we just started
06:19looking further and further into it but the problem was we weren't really in a position to buy one at
06:23the
06:24time we had a long-term lease in thailand mandy was pregnant we'd never even been to japan so
06:30we thought about it we fantasized about it for a while and then it kind of just went on the
06:34back
06:34burner then fast forward to earlier this year we planned a camper van trip around japan and we knew
06:42in the back of our minds that this was a bit of a feeling out sort of trip we wanted
06:46to
06:46see if japan was somewhere we actually even wanted to own property where we would see ourselves spending
06:51time every year and honestly within the first few days the answer was yes like we love japan so we
06:59got back online and started searching for properties we used a website that's called
07:04akia mart and it's probably the best search engine there is for akia homes in japan we narrowed it down
07:09to areas we wanted to live in and we sort of got lucky that we found this one which is
07:13in a remote
07:14part of japan but it's very close to a lot of ski hills and also very close to a major
07:20city so we
07:21emailed the agent organized the viewing came and looked at it and pretty much fell in love and the
07:25rest is kind of history that was back in march it's now almost august so almost five months ago
07:30we have been going through the entire purchase process since then and let me tell you it's not
07:35very easy especially because there's a language barrier for starters things are done very differently
07:41here than they are in australia or canada where we're from but we had a really good agent who helped
07:45us through everything and because we had over four months up our sleeve we were able to overcome all the
07:52obstacles which there's a lot there were quite a few times where we thought this wasn't actually
07:56going to go through we've signed the contract but we're not actually going to be able to purchase this
08:00house but it ended up working out and i actually spent the last four months during this process
08:05documenting everything and putting it into a complete ebook which i made it's available on our
08:11website now if you're serious about buying a home in japan as a foreigner this ebook's got every single
08:17thing you need to know from start to finish from how to find a place to how to actually purchase
08:23it
08:23what the legal process is what the visa process is and then to actually moving in and living in a
08:29place like this so i've put everything in there it's from our lived experience check that out if
08:34you're interested and i'm going to get into the full tour of the house we're going to show you
08:38everything there is in this property so this is the driveway and we have a busy main road here which
08:43is
08:44actually pretty incredible uh but then if you look around we don't have any neighbors on any side here
08:50and look at this view mountains all around there's actually a second driveway around the back so you
08:59don't have to use the busy road you can turn down a back street and get to the property there
09:04there's a
09:04farm next door here and another chunk of empty land here and this is the entrance this is all ours
09:23okay the garden needs some work here's the garage here which is going to be really good in winter
09:28because they do get a lot of snow here um we're not super high up but we are quite
09:34higher than nagano so it does snow here quite a lot in winter i guess this is the mailbox hey
09:42oh another spiderweb
09:55so we have this front room here which is probably the nicest out of all the rooms
10:02and i think it will end up being guest bedroom not really sure yet so then you got what looks
10:08to be
10:09the old living rooms here because they got tatami mats and it's divided into two here so big tatami mats
10:18here
10:25and another one here but the only issue with this room is the ceiling's quite low
10:34i guess my head doesn't quite hit it it's not too bad but then the doorway here
10:43so this is going to be like a bit of a living room i suppose we might end up taking
10:49this door
10:52wall out and just making it one big sort of front living room um we're going to have to replace
10:58the
10:58tatami mats because there's a bit of a some of them just have like a bit of a spongy feel
11:06to them
11:09not sure what that is uh and then there's the front kind of just the sunroom sort of hallway here
11:16which
11:16gets a lot of natural light i think we're going to have to replace this carpet pretty much straight
11:29away then we've got the kitchen here
11:43the kitchen's actually pretty awesome it's really big and it has this huge uh window here so we can
11:49really see vision of like using this space a lot better than it's been used at the moment a bathroom
11:55which is kind of interesting japanese style bathroom
12:11so i guess in japan they sort of just have a bath instead of a shower um i think that's
12:18a lot more
12:18common uh and then there's this like it looks like where you can just wash your feet or something like
12:23that i don't really know what the deal is with this
12:32it's like just about up to my waist if anyone watching is japanese or knows about japanese
12:38bathrooms let me know what the deal is with that why it's designed like that and then we have like
12:42the sink which is out here separate to the bathroom and then the toilet
12:55which is actually just a vault toilet um it can be plumbed in but we have to organize that we're
13:01probably going to do that pretty soon because uh having a vault toilet isn't really ideal
13:20and we have the upstairs level there is two huge rooms upstairs uh which i guess will be bedrooms
13:30um yeah so there's this one and then one across the hall yeah this one's massive again the satami
13:39mats need to be replaced not really much insulation on the walls which is a bit of an issue for
13:45winter
13:45and then this room's pretty awesome honestly this is like a double bedroom with a divider
13:53and there's two separate doors here and there's so many spider webs here yeah i think this is going
13:58to end up being two separate bedrooms this one's a bit bigger than the other one so probably a kid's
14:04room and then the master bedroom or yeah just another another big bedroom which are actually really nice
14:11these rooms we just need to replace these i don't know what you call these
14:17oh put a hole in that yeah but everything else is really nice here
14:39all of this is ours
14:43all this here all of that down to the street and look at that view
14:55now probably our favorite part of this house is this shed which is like its own standalone property
15:01it's got three rooms down the bottom one two three and then one big room up the top yeah i'm
15:08a little
15:09bit worried about the situation in this shed it's going to be like because everything was like super
15:17clean when we came and looked at it and now there's literally cobwebs and like bugs just everywhere
15:27but we'll check it out
15:47that's so cool
15:50are the barrels in there? yeah
15:55yeah so there's these one two three four five
15:58five of them
16:01did you think that this is all still in use this stuff?
16:06doesn't look like it to me
16:10they're pretty cool
16:12very cool
16:15like definitely turn them into something cool
16:17yeah
16:18surely that's still being used
16:21but everything's got like cobwebs on it so it looks like it's not
16:24i don't think it has been i think it's just this stuff here
16:39i don't even think i want to go in there right now
16:40no there's so many spiders oh my gosh
16:43okay that's for another episode
16:45and then down here we're going to put like a fire pit or something don't we
16:49yeah we're going to put a fire pit a hot tub
16:51once i clear all this stuff it's going to look really good
16:55and we've just got this epic view of the mountains
16:58this winter i think it's going to be amazing
17:01don't know what all this is
17:05but it doesn't look good
17:08whatever that is we've got to get like a pressure washer to clean it i think
17:12and then the driveway obviously hasn't been cut back for a long time
17:18so when we came here in winter or spring this wasn't this overgrown at all it was quite
17:26short and dead um so coming back this time was actually a surprise just how overgrown everything
17:32is i think one of the first things we're going to have to do is buy some gardening tools
17:38maybe a whippersnapper and some hedge trimmers
17:41cut all of this back because this is so overgrown
18:01so we've got bright green carpets as you can see that are sort of like pulling up here which we
18:15need to pull them up anyway these curtains also have to go because they are filthy
18:22and full of dust and don't smell very good i'm sure front door area is so filthy like look at
18:30all this dirt
18:50i thought i'd be able to salvage this cabinet but i don't think i'm going to be able to
18:55i thought it was real wood but it looks like it's just been like a resin that's poured over top
19:00of
19:00it and it's all peeling and chipped which is really sad because i had seen this table in the
19:05original photos of this house from years and years ago and the last owner just didn't take care of
19:11it so um we're gonna have to probably get rid of it i'm actually really nervous to open it
19:18uh it's covered in spider webs there's bugs and dead things everywhere all over here i might wait to
19:25open it until i've got some gloves or something on and we'll see what else is in there okay so
19:31lila
19:31needs to take a nap and so i need to get this one room tidied up so that she has
19:37somewhere clean to
19:38sleep and we have somewhere to sleep tonight try and get it as clean as possible livable i suppose
19:43just for for tonight and we'll make it even better tomorrow but i gotta get changed and start vacuuming
20:02oh my gosh that was like a moth that just exploded there's so many bugs in here
20:20so
20:32okay
20:38so
20:39so
20:39so
20:39so
20:40so
20:40so
20:45so
20:56okay i did just a quick like grab cleaning products at the supermarket but i couldn't
21:03read anything and i didn't have like phone or anything to translate so i just guessed
21:07i don't even know if this is a proper kitchen cleaner but i'm just doing the best i can
21:11with what i have and i'm gonna go back tomorrow and get more stuff but um if any japanese people
21:17are watching are like why is she using that that's why
21:28okay i'm just gonna let that soak while i finish cleaning in the bedroom just had to do something
21:33with the kitchen sink i couldn't clean from a dirty sink like that
21:40so
21:49so
21:51so
21:51so
22:00so
22:01I don't know.
22:31I'm going to go.
22:47Oh, pumpkin?
22:51Wow.
22:54Bikini?
22:55Cucumber?
22:56Cucumber?
22:57Oh.
22:58Yum.
23:00Tomatoes.
23:01Okra.
23:03Okra.
23:03Okra.
23:04Okra.
23:04Okra.
23:07Okra.
23:14So the old owner of the house, he still has a farm that's like next door.
23:19He keeps his farming tools and equipment in the shed on the house in exchange.
23:24He comes and brings like half of his crop.
23:27And he's also going to introduce us to some of the neighbors and locals here.
23:31So that'll be a good way for us to not be so isolated and actually get to know some people.
23:35So that'll be really cool.
23:36But this looks so nice.
23:38Like beautiful fresh veggies.
24:18There's the biggest spider in the shower.
24:22Noooo.
24:23Someone's left their tweezers there.
24:25And the dirtiest rain cap.
24:28Ew.
24:28Bleh.
24:29Bleh.
24:33Ok.
24:34End of day one.
24:36Didn't go exactly to plant.
24:39At all.
24:41But at least we got this room good.
24:43Yeah.
24:43We got this room good.
24:44Yeah.
24:44And we can at least sleep in it.
24:47The fridge is cleaning.
24:48We'll let air out.
24:50Yeah.
24:50We can use that tomorrow.
24:51We're just leaving off convenience store food.
24:53Yeah.
24:55Hopefully we'll be able to cook the veggies that Mr. Matsumoto brought us.
25:02Hopefully we'll get the stove top working.
25:06We need to clean the bathroom to use the bathroom.
25:09Yeah.
25:10Bathroom.
25:10Kitchen still has bugs all over it.
25:13Front door is covered in cobwebs.
25:16There's still a lot to do.
25:18But.
25:18Happy with the progress we made in here.
25:20I'm just glad we've got a room that's semi-livable for the first night.
25:26This room feels good.
25:27Yeah.
25:27Smells way better.
25:29Alright.
25:30We will see you guys in the morning.
25:39Well it's about 6.30 and we just had our first night in the house.
25:44Honestly not too bad.
25:46Very quiet.
25:47I thought it was going to be really hot.
25:49And it wasn't bad at all actually.
25:51It was nice and fresh.
25:54It did get light at about 4am this morning.
25:57So we've been up for a couple of hours already.
25:59And we're just walking around our little village here.
26:01Checking it out.
26:03Looking at a few other abandoned houses.
26:06There seems to be a few houses that have people in them.
26:10It's a bit of a farming village.
26:12So there's lots of vegetable farms and stuff around.
26:14It's really nice.
26:15We've got a fast car.
26:18We go cruise and entertain ourselves.
26:20Still ain't got a job.
26:22Now work in the market as a checkout girl.
26:25I know things will get better.
26:27You'll find work and I'll get promoted.
26:29And we'll move out of the shelter.
26:32Buy a bigger house and live in the suburbs.
26:42I remember when we were driving.
26:44Driving in your car.
26:46Speed so fast it felt like I was drunk.
26:48The city lights lay out before.
26:50And your arms felt nice when I found my children.
26:53I, I, had a feeling that I belong.
26:57I, I, had a feeling I could be someone.
27:01Plan for today is to get the kitchen cleaned up.
27:05I was up till about 10 last night scrubbing the toilet.
27:11In the dark because the light didn't work.
27:13And I just, yeah, I was freaked out.
27:15I didn't want to be in a dirty bathroom in the dark.
27:17Like, yeah, it freaked me out.
27:18So I was just up cleaning it.
27:20And, um, but the kitchen really needs to be cleaned today.
27:22We're going to try and get that done.
27:24And the shower.
27:25So that's the plan for today.
27:27It's a lot to do.
27:27It's a lot bigger of a house than I thought.
27:46Pig.
27:47Oh, God.
27:51da-da-da-da-da-da-da
27:57Get out!
27:58Woo-hoo!
28:00realms.
28:07magical knowledge.
28:15do you want to come see what's in this uh esky
28:22i'm probably going to keep the mask on for this actually it feels heavy it feels like
28:26there's some stuff in this esky i'm a little nervous it's probably just us what's that soy sauce
28:40huge soy sauce that's cool i thought it was going to be like dead rat in there
28:47yeah i wasn't sure what was in there oh that can't be good anymore what is it seaweed something
28:56smells not very good in here but fabulous drink don't know what that is himalayan salt
29:03but it's wet pop sauce we could keep this because it's still sealed i think not bad and
29:08the esky's in good condition actually so we're going to keep that it's very clean a few things
29:14in this place have surprised me even under here i was really scared to open this light yeah it's
29:22clean i mean no i wouldn't say clean but like it's better than what you'd expect under there
29:29i was expecting a spider infestation or something yeah
29:48this looks like it might be some utensils or something
29:55oh it's just like a mini table it's kind of cool i might keep that
30:15oh my gosh i cannot believe this it's like years and years of dirt coming off at the moment
30:21i'm gonna have to sand this after where it's like the wood or paint is coming off as well
30:27so you're gonna have to sand it there's a bunch of nails sticking out but like i thought this
30:33circle was just like the discoloration like that it lightened there but actually it's that
30:39everything else got darker um yeah like i don't think these walls have ever been wiped down ever
30:48no no i think this was a bachelor pad hey yeah
30:58i know it's hard to envision right now but look at this view that we get from
31:04i think we'll probably maybe have like a table or a breakfast bar or something here if it fits but
31:10look at the view from here to the path that comes up
31:24isn't that so pretty i absolutely love it there's so much greenery here once this
31:29is all like actually cleaned up and kept like it's gonna look amazing
31:37well i just said that the gas man is here so hopefully they're gonna be able to get the gas
31:41hooked up we'll be able to start cooking in the kitchen
32:02okay we're gonna head to the hardware store that's just down the street from ours and probably head to
32:07family mart again too for some stuff for lunch um we gotta grab a few things from the hardware store
32:13and we'll see what our local hardware store is like we're out in the country and there's a big
32:18hardware store here which is kind of strange but it's very handy for us okay i'm facing a little bit
32:22of a dilemma right now because i'm consider i'm pretty sure we're just gonna end up pulling this paneling
32:28off the wall anyway um and this is taking forever to scrub all the dirt off of it this looks
32:37like
32:37it's what's underneath which is much nicer wood than this cheap paneling that's on here um so we're
32:47gonna try and pull one of these off when we get back from the hardware store and see if that's
32:51what's
32:52under because i think that'll look way better it's a risk but it's a risk i'm willing to take
32:56hey just so the gas works gas works um well just for the burner yeah that thing doesn't appear to
33:07work well there's a leak in the hose so it might still work the hot water for the sink i
33:12kind of
33:13hate that thing so i would love to get that gone almost and get something new eventually yep so the
33:20boiler kind of seems like it works really yeah but it needs kerosene and he doesn't do that
33:26no he does he does i got his phone number so i'm gonna text him okay but uh we turned
33:31it on and
33:31it seemed to turn on so i have a feeling it works everything in the place like electrical and
33:38stuff wise has been pretty good yeah i'm kind of facing a dilemma right now are we we're probably
33:43gonna end up like pulling these panels off the wall anyway right yeah um because like there's
33:50they're peeling and stuff and like this is taking like 10 years to clean them and it's like quite
33:56cheap paneling it feels like but how do we check what's underneath it to know if it's like wood or
34:03but then what hap then that one's off and then you're committed right no we can put it back we're
34:09getting a new one out here in the hallway is all paneling the same paneling as well which looks just
34:17as dirty maybe not quite as bad as in the kitchen but um it just makes it look really cheap
34:26like i
34:27think it'll just look a lot better if if they're taken off maybe mr matsumoto or even the owner before
34:34him not sure um someone quite old was living here because there's all these railings for someone to
34:43walk around i think kind of looks that way they're they're quite low as well um and they're all over
34:50this lower uh lower level they're everywhere so we need to take them off as well like they're literally
34:59everywhere either that or like a ballet dancer lived here
35:05but i'm gonna guess maybe someone um a bit older lived here and it helped them get around the house
35:10it's very common with the akias for elderly people to just um not really have someone to pass on their
35:16home to so they they just move on and um i think that's a good bet that that might be
35:21what it is
35:22is there's more through this hallway here and there's ramps here too maybe it might have been
35:30someone in a wheelchair even yeah might be someone yeah wheelchair but that's also that these aren't
35:37level so maybe they just put them there so you don't trip um so you did you take one of
35:43the doors
35:43off in the bedroom did you nice okay getting too annoying to move back and forth yeah i think that'll
35:52go good as a desk
36:40go good as well
36:41look it's gone all day
36:52Gardening stuff. We're gonna need a rake, okay?
36:57What's that?
36:59Yeah
37:03Um, weren't allowed cameras in there for some reason, but um got a hammer tape measure
37:12What else did you get?
37:14screwdriver
37:17Yeah, and
37:19Like a just like a plier thing to pull things out
37:22I don't know what you call it. Yeah
37:26There's actually some good stuff in there. I'm considering we're like yeah in the country and
37:33Kind of an unsuspecting spot for there to be a
37:37Shop like that, but it's really handy for us just a few minutes down the road
37:42Considering we're in like rural area. We have everything we need. It's pretty convenient
37:49The family part's incredible
37:51Well, it's been there like six times and we just moved here yesterday
37:58Okay, we got into a package
38:01I think I know what this is
38:03We ordered
38:06Some new clothes and
38:11Just my luck they came the day after we moved into this house
38:14Which is pretty awesome
38:16Yay, that looks so nice
38:19This is all from
38:21Unbound Merino
38:26Probably our favorite travel clothing brand because it's all made of merino wool every time you see me in
38:32Black t-shirt like this. It's the same t-shirt. I have like five of these and the reason being
38:37they last for so long
38:39I can wear it hang it up and then wear it again the next day
38:42I can literally wear the same t-shirt for like a week. I know it sounds gross
38:45But it's because it's made out of merino wool and it doesn't get um
38:50Doesn't hold the moisture. It's really breathable and it's really designed for travel
38:56Thanks
39:01Oh, yeah
39:03Freshie
39:03Fresh one
39:07I was due for a few new t-shirt. I've been wearing the same ones for like probably three years
39:14now. Yeah
39:15And I got a white one this time as well. Nice fresh
39:19Keep that away from lila
39:21This isn't getting worn unless we're going out somewhere nice
39:25That's the going out t-shirt
39:26Might get you worn in this house
39:49Looks empty
39:51What do you mean?
39:53Like this wood?
39:55Just looks like there's nothing really inside it
39:59Like it's hollow?
40:00Looks hollow, yeah
40:02Oh
40:04That's not good
40:04So I'm not sure
40:06Probably can't pull it off then
40:08Yeah, if I want to pull it off, but yeah
40:14There's nothing really there
40:18Doesn't, I guess it sounds hollow
40:20That one definitely sounds hollow
40:26I wonder then if we could rip them up and put some insulation in and then
40:31Put new walls in
40:37Put new walls in
40:45Yeah
40:45We're going to attack this bathroom, honey
40:50Actually it's not that bad, it's literally just the bath really
40:55The walls are not bad
40:57And the floor
40:59Yeah
41:01Oh never mind
41:04There's some kind of a nest up there
41:12But I think it should be pretty easy to clean in here
41:16Because it's basically just one big wet room
41:47I think it should be pretty easy to clean in here
41:48What is this for?
41:56What?
42:22I really don't know what I'm looking at
42:25There is a power lead
42:28That runs through this window here
42:30Into the bathroom
42:32And it's taped up to the tap
42:36And when you follow it outside here
42:40It's running into this pipe
42:44Which goes into the ground
42:46It looks like it plugs in
42:48And there is a switch there
42:49That seems to be making like a bit of a sound when I turn it on
42:52But the way it's taped up
42:53It's not long enough to plug in
42:55So I don't understand what this is for
42:57Maybe if you have any idea
42:58Let me know down below in the comments
42:59Bathrooms in Japan are kind of like more giant wet rooms
43:04Like everything in this room can get wet
43:07Like the light fixture
43:10It's all waterproof there
43:11It's sealed
43:12There's a rubber seal in there
43:16And you've got this power outlet
43:21And it's waterproof as well
43:25Splash backed all around the bathroom
43:28So I don't know what goes on in these bathrooms
43:30But you can pretty much just spray a hose around the whole room and you're good
43:35Which is probably what I'm going to do now to clean it
43:54I don't know what that is
43:56I'm going to try and get rid of it though
44:02Okay I guess that wasn't a bug's nest
44:04It was just some old filler or something that somebody used
44:08On the floor there
44:09So now I think we can clean this bathroom and actually use it tonight
44:12Which is going to be awesome
44:13Now we have a working kitchen with a fridge and a stovetop
44:17A bathroom that works
44:18A toilet, kinda
44:20A bedroom
44:22I've seen some pretty good progression
44:23Okay so the previous owners left a few things
44:26We found some old kimonos
44:28And I just found this scroll
44:31I haven't opened it yet
44:32But so let's see what is inside of it
44:35Looks like it's got some water damage
44:36But maybe some of it can be salvaged
44:39Cool
44:40Oh it's actually really cool artwork
44:46That's kind of cool isn't it
44:47Yeah
44:49We could probably salvage just this bit
44:52Yeah
44:52That's not
44:54And then we keep some of the original character of the house
44:57Yeah
44:57That's so cool
44:58Look at it's beautiful actually
45:00That's probably the mountains behind us
45:03It looks like it
45:04Yeah
45:05I wonder what this says
45:07Any Japanese subscribers please tell us what this says
45:17So the original owner left this as well
45:20It's one of the kimonos
45:21I haven't opened this one
45:23But it looks really really pretty
45:27Do you want to see this one Lila?
45:33Wow
45:36Oh my gosh
45:38That is so pretty
45:39Wow
45:40Wow
45:41Wow
45:42Wow
45:45Do you like it?
45:51We haven't opened this yet because it's very cobwebby
45:54And I'm a bit scared to open it
45:57But I think the owner's left some stuff in here
46:00Um so we should find out what's in it
46:10I don't know if they're any good
46:19I feel rusty now they're falling apart
46:23This whole cabinet's like
46:25Shit
46:26Probably should just go
46:27Probably take it to the tip eh?
46:29Yeah
46:30We're gonna do a tip run
46:31Yeah this stuff's all just
46:34Yeah the whole thing's gotta go I think
46:36It feels like it's built in though
46:38It does actually
46:40But it's like
46:41Chipping and this is all like a resin on it
46:44So it's like
46:45Yeah it's not wood
46:47It's all coming off there
46:49Yeah
46:50I think the whole thing's gotta go
46:52Yep
47:12Good work
47:45So let's get started.
47:52I have been vacuuming for hours and there's still so much dust. My goal for today is to try and
47:58get all the vacuuming done on the lower level today and then maybe do the upper level tomorrow. We'll see
48:04how we go.
48:15That is definitely something you don't want to find inside the house. I gotta show Lloyd that. I wonder what
48:24sort of nest that is. Is it wasp or it looks sort of different than a wasp's nest but gotta
48:30get rid of that as soon as possible.
48:35That's a nest. Yeah. What sort of nest do you think it is? Wasp. Pretty small holes. Do you think
48:46it's still like active? How come we didn't see that before? I don't know. I never noticed that. It's been
48:52too dark in here I think. The sun hasn't shown in as much. There's three holes so yeah.
48:58Now I'm thinking that other one I found was a nest but there was no holes or anything. It might
49:02have just been there was nothing in it. It just kind of broke up. Yeah okay.
49:07Do we need to like spray it with something? But what if something flies out of it? I'm sacrificing you.
49:13I don't know. Something moved eh? Something moved? No never mind.
49:25I don't think anything is in there. What do you think? It's sick.
49:32That's enough so you take the right place.
49:33That's enough so you can die away.
49:37That's the right place.
49:39Yeah hahahaha.
49:45Oh my gosh. That's awesome.
49:47Yeaheles.
