00:24Hello everybody and welcome to R&A.
00:27It's the 79th edition of the Monster Energy FIM Motocross of Nations.
00:32We are live with me Paul Malin and Jason Thomas from Fly Racing.
00:36And what a weekend we have had so far.
00:39What a day we have ahead of us here.
00:41As the best riders in the world are going to be lining up three times to be crowned world champions.
00:47The Peter Chamberlain Trophy is on the line here.
00:49The most wins, Team USA with 23.
00:52GB have 16, Belgium have 15.
00:54And there are only 11 nations who have won this event since 1947.
01:00Who will add their name to the list today?
01:02Well, the last time we were doing this was last year in the USA.
01:07Team Australia arrived here as the defending champions with Jed Beaton, Alex Larwood and Aaron Tanti.
01:13The USA with Julian Beaumere, Levi Kitchen and Cooper Webb.
01:16Roman Fevre, possibly the favorites here when you look at that crowd and the noise that is being generated around
01:21this racetrack.
01:22Roman Fevre matches for that and Tom Bial.
01:24But there are a whole host of other teams that love to get on the score sheet here.
01:29Maybe Spain, maybe Belgium, maybe the Netherlands, Latvia.
01:32You just never know.
01:33But it's going to be epic all the same.
01:36Jason Thomas, here we are once again at the biggest event in the world.
01:38We've just seen the opening ceremonies.
01:41We'll get a highlight of that a moment ago.
01:42But the French know how to put on a show, don't they?
01:45They certainly do.
01:45And it's really difficult to top Ernie.
01:48You know, fourth time here.
01:49I remember leaving here in 2023 and thinking this might be the best venue for this particular event on the
01:55planet.
01:55And I am once again reminded of that fact.
01:58And there are quite a few people in and around the place here, as you can see.
02:02I think it was 104,000 we had when we were here three years ago now.
02:06The racetrack is starting to dry out nicely.
02:08We had a lot of rain on Monday, all day Wednesday.
02:10It was a lot spongier underfoot yesterday.
02:13And that made the track a lot ruttier than normal.
02:16But it also made it quite challenging and quite technical.
02:18It still has that element to it.
02:20But with the weather that we've got today, I believe that it's going to sort of dry out quite quickly
02:25from here on out.
02:26So we'll have a fast track, but also a technically challenging one at the same time.
02:30Yeah, and the base has been hard from the jump.
02:33It's really just the soft dirt that they've been pushing around that stayed wet.
02:36But I do agree with you.
02:37We've had abundant sunshine all day here today on Sunday.
02:40So I think it's actually going to help the riders feel a little bit more comfortable than anything.
02:44Well, before we go anywhere then, let's take a look at some of that opening ceremonies here.
02:50Of course, Frances Magnano down there, Roger Warren, all the crowd in the fans.
02:57Basically, that is when you want the French to do well, whether it's rugby, whether it's football, motocross here.
03:04That's basically the word that is being or the phrase that is being tossed around here.
03:08They did the big Mexican wave and they also sang the national anthem.
03:12They sang their hearts out.
03:17And we just ran it out with a firework display here right there in the center of the racetrack.
03:22As we said, the French definitely know how to put on a show. JT?
03:25Yeah, this, again, every step of this particular venue knocks it out of the park.
03:31Well, let's take a look at our lap then here of this racetrack.
03:361,670 meters long, just over a mile.
03:381.038 Levi Kitchen, Team USA, takes us to a lap around the racetrack.
03:43We're going to take you for a lap around Rene.
03:48So the Kawasaki rider here, riding number five, the MX2 rider.
03:55This long start straight. This was done after the open practice.
03:59So it had MXGP, MX2 and open.
04:01So it gives you an idea how sticky it was yesterday.
04:03Through the first turn over the foxhole shot line, through turn two here,
04:06dropping down through turn three.
04:07And as we go from the finish line to this point here, that is the end of sector one.
04:11Fans over there are going to be absolutely crazy.
04:15And as we head down this straight here, we've got the Dragons back.
04:18If you can wheel tap, you can triple in, double out.
04:20We can't quad this, so it's a triple single or many riders double double, JT.
04:25Yeah, and I love this vantage point because you can see how difficult this track is to maneuver and navigate
04:29for the riders' lines crossing over each other.
04:31And you see the different colors of the dirt there, where it's softer areas from the rain over in the
04:35weekend,
04:35and areas where it's starting to dry out, which will be much more dry here today.
04:38See the landing there as you drop downhill through the valley of those long ruts.
04:41They're still there.
04:42This was a tricky corner yesterday.
04:43It will be very rutty as well today, so there will be some passes.
04:46There will be some mistakes there as well.
04:48Over the Liqui Moly jump, that was a series of waves previously, but it's two tabletops now.
04:53This off-camber downhill, trickier than it looks, and it drops away even further here into this tight right.
04:59Again, errors can be made there.
05:00Yeah, and the cameras do it no justice to how steep and how off-cambered many of these corners are.
05:05So you see riders out of position, leaning at awkward angles.
05:08It's because of the angles that are forced upon them in these corners.
05:11Jumping up onto the plateau, the highest point of the racetrack here.
05:14Over the Monster Energy jump right now, we've got another one.
05:17The old track used to turn right about now and head down underneath the GoPro banner.
05:20But last year, when we had a GP here, we extended it this way into this right.
05:25Again, slightly off-camber through there, into the next left, and then we rejoin the old track over the GoPro
05:30step down.
05:31That is a downhill double. High speed, high on the brakes as well. Slow inside rut there.
05:36We saw riders going wide here and getting cut off on the exit there, so expect more passing there.
05:40Yeah, and it's one of those things where you have to figure out if there's a rider right behind you
05:43or not.
05:43Can you use that outside and gain momentum, or do you have to protect the inside as they head towards
05:47the finish line?
05:48Well, this is the Monster Energy finish line here. We've got two more corners to go.
05:51We can turn left. Pit lane entry is just there. This is pit lane. We've got this one straight.
05:55We turn right back onto the start straight. That's a lap here of the racetrack here in Ernais
06:01for the 79th edition of the Monster Energy FIM Motocross of Nations.
06:08What a view. Well, a few moments ago, Lisa Leyland was down on the grid. She caught up with the
06:12rider.
06:12We've not seen in a while. Number 10 riding for Belgium on the Red Bull KTM, Lucas Kunen.
06:16However, in 5 seconds, we have to make the Earth move. We have to make the Earth move on the
06:22right side.
06:23In 5 seconds, OK?
06:25I can tell you that all the adversaries teams will have some frictions in the colonel.
06:29And the others, they will be carried out by your magic potion.
06:32Like here.
06:33It's you, Tel Astérix, Panoranix.
06:35You're going to show you that we have the magic trick.
06:39The magic trick for winning the nation.
06:53We are going down there soon, I promise.
06:56But as soon as we get it, we'll give you that interview with Lucas Kunen,
06:59the Red Bull KTM rider from Team Belgium, of course.
07:03Before we do that, though, let's take a look at how the Motocross of Nations works.
07:07Here's the scoring system.
07:11So how does it all work here then at the Monster Energy FIM Motocross of Nations?
07:16It's quite simple, really.
07:17You get three riders.
07:20Three riders per team.
07:24And then from the previous year's results, so whoever was victorious,
07:29that team takes the one, two and three.
07:31We've got three categories, of course.
07:33MXGP, MX2 and MXOpen.
07:35So they will take the one, two, three.
07:37Second place gets four, five, six, seven, eight, nine, and so on and so on.
07:41Each rider will get three races, which means...
07:44Each rider will get two races in the three results there.
07:48And that gives you six results, and the worst will get dropped.
07:53One point for the win, two for second, three for third, and so on and so on.
07:57The best five results count.
08:00The worst gets dropped.
08:04And the team with the lowest score at the end of it all will be crowned world champions,
08:10and they will take to see the Chamberlain Trophy.
08:20No time for that interview with Lucas Coon a moment ago, but basically he was asked,
08:25how was he feeling?
08:26He said, well, I can't say that because I'll give too much away.
08:28But he did basically say, I'm not 100%, but he's going to give it all his best.
08:31Here's how the riders line up.
08:32The French, the French qualified on pole yesterday with their two fantastic results.
08:38Roman Feverett, Valan, they line up for MXGP and MX2.
08:42Prado for Spain with...
08:45Spain with Ferez alongside him as well.
08:47And the rest of the riders here, as you can see.
08:49So France with Valan Feverett in this one.
08:52Spain with Prado, Ferez.
08:54Belgium with the two Kunins, Lucas and Sasha.
08:57Italy with Ferrato and Zanke.
09:02There is the seven of Roman Feverett, and he was on a mission yesterday, JT.
09:08He led the first three laps.
09:09Jorge Prado passed him on lap four of 12 and went on to win.
09:13But he was...
09:15Looked like he was in playful mood, Roman Feverett.
09:17He kind of had one or two goes.
09:18He looked like he had a little bit left in the tank.
09:20But we will see when it matters today.
09:21Yeah, he's so wild.
09:22You never really know what you're getting at.
09:24Was he giving everything he had?
09:25Was he kind of sussing Prado out a little bit?
09:27It's very similar to 2023 in every way.
09:31But this race one has some heavy hitters in it.
09:34These are going to be, outside of Jeffrey Herlings, a lot of the stars of the show here.
09:38Yeah, we won't see Jeffrey until the next race, of course, because he's lining up in the open class.
09:42So this is the MXGP and MX2 riders.
09:44Fly racing 15-second board up for the first time today.
09:47Here at the 79th edition of the Monster Energy Motocross of Nations.
09:51Inside gate number one there.
09:53Levi Kitchen for Team USA.
09:55Is it going to be paying dividends for him at the end of the straight?
09:58A lot of the teams will put their 250s up the inside as well to allow the 450s to sweep
10:01across.
10:02That's exactly what we're seeing here.
10:03Roman Fevre on the seven.
10:05Just about.
10:06But he's just been pipped there by Isaac Gifting of Sweden, who leads the way here on the number 19.
10:12Prado right there in second.
10:14Third is Fevre.
10:15So it's Sweden from Spain, from France.
10:18Kitchen arrived in ninth place at that first split, going into that first right-hander there.
10:23And as we head up the hill, it's Gifting from Prado.
10:26Prado looking to make a move early, and he gets around the outside.
10:28And so too does Fevre.
10:31Gifting goes down.
10:32I wasn't sure if Roman Fevre was going to go down as well.
10:35The Swede goes down.
10:38And that is going to cause mayhem at the top of the hill.
10:40But look at the gap that Prado's opened up as a result of that altercation between Fevre and Gifting.
10:45Just behind them is Lukas Kunin with exactly the start that he wanted for Team Belgium on the number 10.
10:50We've got Mats Fredso of Denmark, but they don't have an open-class rider because Mikkel Harrop won't be lining
10:55up today.
10:57Talvico of Estonia is fifth.
10:58Santos of Brazil.
10:59Then we've got Valan in seven.
11:01So France two and seven.
11:04They're going to be on nine points.
11:05Kitchen, the first American.
11:06He's in eighth place.
11:08Where is their second rider, Beaumair?
11:10He is in 18th position at the moment.
11:11Yeah, it's going to be fascinating to watch.
11:13Very similar setup to the MXGP race yesterday with the addition now of Lukas Kunin, who crashed on the start
11:18yesterday.
11:19So does he have anything to offer after so much time off to the first two?
11:24Just looking at the defending champions, they are 20th and 27th at the moment with Beaton and Alex Larwood.
11:30But as we head downhill here with Matias Talvico from Estonia, live images here as he heads downhill.
11:41Oh, tell you what, that was close, wasn't it?
11:43Yeah, Lukas off track there for a second.
11:45So Talvico there in that fourth position.
11:49Oh, is that Valan?
11:50Valan.
11:52That's on the downhill, isn't it?
11:54Got to be.
11:57Watch.
12:00Just off the side of the track.
12:02He goes down hard.
12:03That is not how he wanted to have this opening lap.
12:07Does not want this race to finish like that.
12:09Big one for Valan and France.
12:11They are now on the back foot because if he cannot line up in race two, they need perfect scores
12:16from their next races.
12:17Well, we talk about this race.
12:19You think you know who the favorites are.
12:21You think you know what's going to happen on Sunday.
12:23And then the first lap, everything changes in an instant.
12:27Now, I think the attention immediately turns to Spain.
12:29We knew they were going to be in this thing.
12:30But wow, what a turn of events in the first lap.
12:34Spain, we said.
12:36France, we said, were favorites.
12:38And we said Spain because of the fact that you've got Jorge Prado here, who is leading the way.
12:42A two-time MX2 world champion, two-time MXGP world champion.
12:45An MSMX champion just a week ago in the playoffs.
12:49Romer Febvre, of course, he's a two-time champ.
12:52But Guilherme Paulan absolutely disappointed down there.
12:55But he knows this is only the first race.
12:57Hopefully, they get him back in one piece.
12:58Hopefully, he can line up in race two.
13:00But he's just come back from injury.
13:02He's only been on the bike five weeks.
13:05He will not continue the race, clearly.
13:07But Jorge Prado, he is the lead man for Team Spain.
13:11He almost went off the same place there as Valan as well.
13:16Guilherme Perez is his teammate.
13:17Where is Perez?
13:18He is in fifth position.
13:19So it's going to be Spain leading the way as it stands right now.
13:34So you've got Prado leading the way, you've got Perez of Spain.
13:37They're going to be on a six-point haul at the moment because Perez is now just past Panza.
13:41And they've also got Francisco Garcia, MX250 European champion, to come in the next race as well.
13:48But big, big drama here, if you like, because you've got Spain leading the way.
13:52And France down to one man with Romain Febvre.
13:55I'm sure they would have had a broad signal to him to say that Valan is out.
13:59So he now has to go and shoot for the win.
14:03Where maybe, last time, might not have had to have pushed, you know, quite as bad.
14:09Yeah, they're going to need every single point possible here.
14:11And, yeah, that is just brutal to see Kitchen on the very inside here on the start replay.
14:17For Paul-Ann, this is disaster. It's absolute disaster.
14:20Not the homecoming that they wanted for now.
14:22But like I say, never say never. Remember in...
14:26When... Oh, look at that.
14:28Just caught the edge of the bank, didn't he?
14:30And then the posts and everything else.
14:31And that bike went cartwheeling. He went down hard.
14:35And the reaction there, as soon as he hit the ground, just taking a moment.
14:43He's probably feeling like he's let his country down right there.
14:46That's a lot of pressure.
14:47You see that gesture there as feeling the pressure of the moment.
14:51And he was so good in the heat race yesterday.
14:54He was the winner in the MX2 qualifying race.
14:58Febvre was second in the MXGP race.
15:00And Vial was third, but running second.
15:03So they took the result from Valan and Febvre.
15:06One, two.
15:07And that's why they qualified with a lower score of three points.
15:10That's why they started on pole.
15:12Here's Kitchen, the number five.
15:14He is in eighth place.
15:16He is the lead American rider at the moment.
15:17Pomer has worked his way up from 18th to 12th.
15:20That's the second American rider in track.
15:21And if you put the flag out now, Spain are on five.
15:23Belgium with a three and a 17 score.
15:26They are on 20.
15:27The USA, 12-8, also on 20.
15:30The Netherlands on 25 with 11th and 14th positions as it stands right now.
15:34Italy a fifth.
15:36And South Africa in sixth place with a 25-7.
15:38In fact, they've just leapfrogged Italy, as I say that.
15:42Because Camden McClellan right there.
15:43So you've got two MX2 riders.
15:45Camden McClellan, second in the world championship.
15:46The American SMX champ of Kitchen just behind him now.
15:51Those two, seven and eight.
15:52JT?
15:53Yeah.
15:53And just kind of looking at the track here, comparing it to yesterday,
15:56this track is much closer to a pro motocross track than what they raced on yesterday.
16:01So I'm sure the comfort level has gone up.
16:03They can push a little bit more.
16:04It's a little bit quicker of a racetrack.
16:06So I'm sure between their first day being yesterday and the racetrack coming around,
16:11it gives them a little bit of a better chance here.
16:13Estonia's Jürgen Mateusz Talvikou there in that fifth position with our onboard,
16:17live onboard camp.
16:19Here's Ferez.
16:21The MX2 world champ.
16:22He is currently in fourth place now.
16:256.7 seconds behind Lucas Koonan.
16:27Koonan on a 4.50.
16:28Ferez on a 2.50.
16:29There is the 37 of Estonia.
16:31There's Panza behind him of Slovenia on the number 13 in six.
16:34And then we've got McClellan and Kitchen.
16:35Those two within touching distance.
16:37You just saw them coming into view there a moment ago.
16:394.50, 2.50.
16:41It's hard to determine, isn't it?
16:43Because they've got some long uphill drags that will favor the 4.50.
16:46Some tight, twisty corners that favor the 2.50, JT.
16:49Yeah, and I think with a little bit drier racetrack, a little bit less ruddy racetrack,
16:52the 4.50 helps quite a bit because you can actually utilize the power.
16:56Yesterday, they were basically just picking their way around.
16:59You really couldn't be aggressive anywhere.
17:01So I think the 2.50's maneuverability was much more of a benefit yesterday.
17:07Prado continues to lead.
17:08He's doing exactly what he wanted to do coming into this weekend
17:11to show that he is still the best 4.50 rider in the world.
17:14That's exactly what he was when he left here.
17:17And obviously winning that championship a week ago,
17:19I guess he's proved that on the state side as well in many ways.
17:22Yeah.
17:23In terms of the playoffs.
17:23Yeah, it's really, you know, the last month or so.
17:26Prado has found form.
17:28He's spoken a little bit about it.
17:29He used some of the pieces and parts that he had on his Red Bull KTM DeCarly bike
17:34when he was still in Europe.
17:35And the difference has been astounding.
17:36Ever since Unadilla and the Pro Motocross Series,
17:39this has been a completely different rider.
17:41And that remains even to today.
17:43Nicely done up on the pegs through that turn.
17:45Fevre is getting closer.
17:47We'll get another split in a couple corners from now.
17:49He was two point something.
17:50It's now down to 1.9.
17:52He was two tenths quicker in sector one.
17:54Sector two is on the face of this jump here.
17:57Keep an eye on that.
17:57Prado has just gone fastest with a 30.33.
18:01Fevre a 30.4.
18:02So that gap still hovering at two seconds at the moment on the infield part of this racetrack.
18:06Yeah, it's interesting to see them kind of respond to each other.
18:09You see Prado go fastest.
18:11Fevre looks like he's on his way to putting in his fastest lap of the race.
18:14And there's a lot of that that goes on.
18:16It's the kind of subliminal messaging.
18:18Fevre will notice that Prado is going to try to put in a pace here and try to separate himself.
18:22So Fevre in kind picks up his pace to go with him.
18:26We'll get another split just now.
18:281.7 the gap because 29-1, 28-8 for Prado and Fevre respectively.
18:35See Gauthier just trying to keep everybody calm, understand the situation.
18:39As long as Matisse Ballin is okay and healthy, it's not over, right?
18:44You throw away that score.
18:45You've got to be perfect from here.
18:46There's no question about that.
18:47But I think that's what he's doing as a veteran of this event is having everyone understand the situation that
18:52they still can be in this thing.
18:54They just have to execute.
18:55Just at the bottom of the hill a moment ago, Roman Fevre making a bit of a mistake.
18:58He didn't get in the rut and out of the rut cleanly.
19:01Just got on the gas and stepped out of it just in his urgency to try and get a little
19:05bit closer to Jorge Prado.
19:08The French are urging on Roman Fevre here.
19:11I know we're going to go down and speak to Team France, the team manager, Gauthier Paulin, in just a
19:16moment.
19:16Let's go down there now to Lisa, who is in pit lane.
19:19Let's get a catch-up, a check-up on Matisse Ballin.
19:23Yes, I'm just with Team Manager France from Gauthier Paulin.
19:27Gauthier, we just saw Matisse Ballin retire from the race.
19:30Just tell us, is he okay?
19:31How's he doing?
19:32He's okay.
19:32A lot of frustration because he had a huge crash.
19:36Bike was damaged, he's damaged, but he didn't hurt himself.
19:41He was really frustrated about himself, but he's now with the physio and he will be back.
19:49So we're still running for the title.
19:56In a precious situation like that where you've lost one rider from the race, Jason,
20:00he has a good calm composure, a good calm demeanor about him, doesn't he?
20:04But what he hasn't said there and what we're about to mention,
20:07with Ballin on the deck and in the paddock getting the bike fixed and getting himself sorted out,
20:12he is missing out on vital track race intel
20:15because the track is different today than what it was yesterday.
20:17It's higher speed.
20:18He doesn't know where the lines are now.
20:20And the MX2, well, everybody that's going to be lining up in race two in terms of the MX2 riders,
20:24they're going to have that knowledge on him.
20:26It certainly will help.
20:27The only thing I will push back and say maybe there's a silver lining is that he's only been riding
20:32for five weeks.
20:33He's missed a lot of racing, so he will be very fresh for race two.
20:36He will have all of his energy left.
20:38I don't know that that's a good enough reason to be excited about anything,
20:41but at least there's something there that you could look back on.
20:44Yeah, but obviously 40th, that is a no fit.
20:47If he would have done a lap, you know, and got classified or whatever, but just not complete the lap
20:53there,
20:53that makes a big difference in terms of the outcome because France cannot afford any more errors here.
20:58So Fevre there in second position as we follow Camden McClellan uphill.
21:03He is still in that seventh place.
21:05He's got Jan Panza ahead of him.
21:06So again, you've got an MXGP rider on a 450 from Slovenia.
21:10He's got Talvikou just ahead of him here for Estonia, also on a 450.
21:14The MXGP rider, you got the MX2 riders.
21:17Ferez is the fastest.
21:18He's the lead MX2 rider in fourth place.
21:21McClellan in seven and Kitchin in eighth place.
21:25So Kitchin the third best MX2 rider.
21:27Jorge Prado spins out and Fevre will be leading the race.
21:32A mistake, a rare mistake from the 28 of Jorge Prado.
21:35That's in that right-hander that Fevre was so beautifully riding the outside around.
21:40Such an atypical mistake for Prado too.
21:42That is not something you see him do often from the front.
21:45Well, the French needed a breakthrough and they've got one there as Prado.
21:48A simple error.
21:49That's the corner where Gifting fell on the opening lap when he tagged with Roman Fevre
21:54and where he was so dominant on that opening lap, Jorge Prado.
21:58When he went around the outside of Swede Gifting, he's now put himself under pressure
22:02because Lucas Kunin behind him and I tell you what, if you needed a carrot dangled in front of you,
22:07Lucas Kunin has one right there.
22:09Rebel KTM rider ahead of him.
22:11That one though riding for Spain.
22:13Yeah, and Lucas, you know, was the follow-up to Jorge Prado's dominance.
22:18We see this crash here.
22:21Just folded the front, the berm disappeared on him.
22:24He goes down, picks himself up.
22:27Yeah, you wonder how much of that Fevre increasing the pressure there
22:30gets Prado a little bit out of his comfort zone and makes a mistake
22:33because he just simply doesn't do that very often.
22:36Anyway, he still has time, 17 minutes.
22:39We saw that yesterday a few times, didn't we?
22:42People grabbing foot pegs there and just having moments when they came to land out of that turn.
22:47Yeah, and I'm not sure, you know, how much Lucas Kunin has to really fight with here.
22:50I think it would take another big mistake from Prado here to kind of come unwound.
22:55I think Lucas Kunin, he knows he's in a great position here.
22:57He's going to try to bring this thing home in third place.
23:00That's a great result for someone who hasn't raced or ridden at all in months.
23:05So interesting to see how it plays out.
23:06But I think for Prado here, it's not the worst situation even if you come home second.
23:10Well, you can see how the 450s are dominating this race at the moment because the second rider,
23:14you've got Lucas Kunin in third.
23:16He's the lead Belgian rider.
23:17He's on the MXGP bike.
23:18First three bikes of 450s in the MXGP category.
23:22Ferez, four.
23:23McClellan, seven.
23:24Kitchen, eight.
23:25And Kunin, who's now just Sasha Kunin, who's got himself into 11th.
23:28He is the fourth MX2 rider and the second Belgian in 11th place.
23:32So 250s aren't really kind of like asserting themselves at the moment in the way that they
23:37would have hoped with those inside gates.
23:38Maybe Kunin, Sasha Kunin was on an outside gate.
23:42We'll have to check the replay at the start again.
23:43Yeah, and I really think this track being in such better condition today is making the
23:48250s life much more difficult.
23:49The 450s are really able to lean into the power more than they have been all weekend.
23:53And I think you're seeing that in the results.
23:56Well, Roman Febvre exactly where he wants to be.
23:58Was he applying the pressure at that moment?
24:00Was Jorge Prado feeling the squeeze from the Frenchman closing in on him?
24:05We will never know.
24:07It just looked like the berm folded away.
24:09Was that because he just came out of there too quick?
24:11And therefore the front end came out and then collapsed the berm.
24:16One or two different variables there in that situation.
24:19But it's Febvre who leads as we drop downhill after seven laps here in this MXGP and MX2
24:24first race of the afternoon in Erne.
24:28The gap eight and a half seconds at the last split.
24:31It's now 7.7.
24:33Prado has not given up the fight yet.
24:35And as he peels into the final turn, Febvre rails around the first turn.
24:39But that's the gap between the first and second riders in the race.
24:42Yeah, we saw that.
24:43We saw his mechanic there.
24:44Richard Sterling for Prado put that LA SMX message on the pit board.
24:47And what he's referring to is the comeback that Jorge Prado put in repassing guys like Hayden Deegan,
24:53getting back into position that won him the championship.
24:55So it's getting back into that mindset of this race isn't over.
24:58Yes, you made a mistake.
24:59But nothing that has been done can't be undone.
25:02And Febvre's right up the track there.
25:04Jorge Matias Talvikou here continues to ride around in fifth place.
25:08That's massive for Estonia.
25:10Unfortunately for him, his second ride was down in 37th place.
25:13And that's Sebastian Leok.
25:14So he obviously had some issues on the opening lap or two.
25:17Of course, the son of Tano Leok, multi-time racer in this.
25:20We're talking like 21, 22 times in this event.
25:23So good to see the family still out there.
25:25But this is great.
25:27And great onboard images that the Estonian is providing us here in this first race.
25:30Gives us a great perspective of the track.
25:33See right along with Fabio Santos here.
25:36Oh, that's Talvikou.
25:38But yeah, think about, look at Talvikou's performance.
25:41Top five, you know, sneaky kind of country result.
25:45We knew they would kind of be in the mix.
25:46I think Latvians, Estonians.
25:49You look up at the end of the day.
25:51You're not talking about them.
25:51They don't grab headlines.
25:52You look up at the end of the day.
25:53They're often inside the top ten, though.
25:55But they've been fourth a couple of times, yet to be on the podium.
25:57Like Spain, for instance, been fourth a few times.
25:59Talvikou was seventh in the MXGP qualifying race yesterday.
26:02So no sort of fluke this.
26:05He's got a good start and he's staying out of trouble.
26:07And he's right there where he needs to be to help his team.
26:09They will be hoping that they can throw away that 37 or whatever it's going to be result
26:14at the end of it all of Sebastian Leok.
26:16And that's how this race works, doesn't it?
26:17And it is often those countries where you look at the race.
26:21You're not really paying attention to them.
26:22Yes, Talvikou is doing a great job.
26:23He's getting some attention now.
26:25But oftentimes you don't even notice until the final results roll up.
26:29And you're like, wow, how did that even occur?
26:30Well, it's consistency that pays dividends at this race.
26:3413 and a half minutes plus two laps to go here at Ernais race one, MXGP and MX2.
26:41Paul Malin and Jason Thomas here in the booth for the 79th edition of this Monster Energy FIM
26:46motocross nations here in northwestern France.
26:49Roman Fevre continues to lead.
26:51He has a 9.1 second advantage over Jorge Prado.
26:54Prado did lead a moment ago, but fell on lap six two laps ago.
26:59Here's a replay of the start.
27:01Kind of.
27:02Just a little teaser.
27:03A little teaser, but Fevre took over the lead again when there was a mistake from Jorge
27:10Prado in that top right corner, just the other side of the city bridge.
27:14Here's Levi Kitchen.
27:15Haven't seen too much of the American pro circuit Kawasaki rider here.
27:19The number five, the MX2 rider for Team USA's First Nations, as is for his teammate Julian Beaumet,
27:25who was 18th on the opening lap.
27:26He's carved his way back to 10th now, and he's only, well, I say he's eight seconds behind
27:31Albi Ferrato.
27:32Ferrato has not been on the bike too much in recent times, so will there be a little bit
27:36of fade from the Italian, or we'll be able to just dig in for at least one race for Team
27:40Italy?
27:41That's McClellan there.
27:42I was kind of wondering if Kitchen would be able to stay with him, how that would go.
27:46McClellan had a bit more than Kitchen did on Saturday, but it's always great.
27:49You know, I've noticed in these races, if you can latch onto one of the 250s for Kitchen,
27:53if it's on a 250, if you can find a fast 250 to go with, it's just a much easier
27:57dynamic
27:57than it is battling against the 450.
27:59Well, in the qualifying race, McClellan did pull away from Levi Kitchen, and you sort
28:02of said he would probably be kind of a little disappointed that that was able to happen.
28:06He's keeping him right in his line of sight right now.
28:08And I think that is day two on the racetrack.
28:11You now know what you're up against in terms of track conditions, optimizing your bike setup.
28:16The nerves of being a first timer on Team USA have kind of settled, and it's now just
28:21in the greater scheme of things, just another race.
28:24Just get your head on and go race.
28:25Yeah.
28:25And I spoke with Levi Kitchen's parents just before we came down for race one, and they
28:29echoed exactly what you said is Saturday eyes are this big around and you're so overwhelmed
28:35by the sensory overload of the moment.
28:37And then Sunday becomes a little bit more of a standard motocross race where you can actually
28:41apply yourself.
28:42And you're seeing that how much closer he is to McClellan here on Sunday versus Saturday.
28:46He had a really nice line up that long hill a moment ago into the final corner.
28:50He is pre-jumping over that little single and just railing that corner.
28:54If we can get a replay of that, that'd be insane.
28:56So the uphill there in the background that goes up to the top of the hill, just as he
29:00jumped around the corner, he just found this little knuckle instead of hitting the top
29:04side.
29:05And he's getting closer and closer to Cameron McClellan.
29:10That's impressive this.
29:11And it is a it's a daunting place to come to, isn't it?
29:14You know, you talk to I was talking to Brock Glover this morning this afternoon down in
29:18the paddock and he was saying that, you know, in terms of visibility, this one offers everything
29:23and it gives you a great spectacle, a great overview of the racetrack.
29:27And that also gives a massive because of the fans there that wall of noise.
29:31But that site there as a racer can be intimidating.
29:33Well, and just also, you mentioned the noise.
29:36It's really hard to tune out the French fans that are going crazy every time the French
29:40do anything good or bad.
29:42And it kind of breaks you out of your rhythm and it breaks your attention span a little
29:46bit.
29:46So you have to find a way to stay into only what you're doing.
29:50You can't control anything that's happening around you.
29:51And this race, we know things will happen.
29:54Abi Ferrato is getting closer to Kitchin.
29:56So we were talking about the potential maybe a moment ago of Ferrato maybe sort of fading
30:00a little bit into the clutches of Beaumair, but he's pulling away from Beaumair and gaining
30:04in on his teammate.
30:05Here's a Prado a moment ago.
30:07Here is the 10 of Lucas Kunin.
30:09But it was that corner there a lap ago where Levi Kitchin was so good going into it.
30:17Yeah, that ill-fated interview with Lucas Kunin we didn't get to catch.
30:20One of the things I noticed just in previewing it, he talked about, he surprised himself to
30:24the upside, right?
30:25He had no idea what to expect.
30:27Could he ride?
30:28What level would he be riding at?
30:30So I think here again in race one on Sunday, he has to be so pleased with this.
30:35Sure.
30:35Would he like to battle Fabra because he was beating Fabra before he exited the championship?
30:39Yes.
30:39But this is a rider.
30:40He hasn't been on the bike at all.
30:42So to be just basically pacing Jorge Prado ahead of him.
30:45This is a win for him.
30:46I wonder actually had he been 100% fit and finished out the season.
30:50Of course, we don't know whether he could have been a world champion or not in the end
30:53because, you know, we just don't know.
30:55That's not how it played out for him.
30:56But would he have taken the open class ride given the fact that Liam Everts is the open
31:02class rider this weekend?
31:05Because MXGP get the longest break.
31:07They go race one and race three.
31:08You get that longer break, which maybe Kunin, yes, he's still fit, but might just need that
31:13for a bit more treatment and things like that.
31:15But if he was fit, he probably goes in race two and three instead of race one and three.
31:19I think it's no question.
31:20I think it's no question.
31:21They're going to use every possible advantage they have on a time frame.
31:24And you say, yes, he's still fit.
31:26I don't know.
31:27You know, it's been a lot of therapy.
31:28It hasn't been the prototypical program they're on because, you know, I know you know this,
31:33Paul, but they ride almost more than anybody else in the world.
31:37Right.
31:37So this is so such a far departure from their normal program.
31:41Sasha Kunin was over on the left side of the gate with the other 250 riders.
31:43So he got boxed in there and Lucas Kunin came in around the outside, but it was.
31:49It was tight.
31:50Wasn't it gifting?
31:50I think maybe just got the foxhole shot.
31:53We'll get a better view of it from here.
31:54There's Cameron McClelland just in the middle in the blue and green with the red numbers through
31:59that first turn.
32:00Yeah, gifting with the first of the foxhole shots.
32:04Then he tumbled out of the race three or four corners later at the top of the hill when
32:09he got snagged by Roman Fevre.
32:12Anyway, Fevre now 12.6 seconds clear of Jorge Prado.
32:16Just wondering whether he's made a couple more errors or if he's just happy to sit there.
32:19Three and a half seconds clear.
32:20He knows he's got a big race coming up in the final race of the day.
32:23He wanted to win this one.
32:24Of course he did.
32:25He's going to want to win the showdown between him and Hurlings.
32:27A lot of people are talking about it.
32:29I wonder the only thing I would ask there is does he know that Boan is out?
32:34Right?
32:34Like I know that's pretty high level.
32:36There's a lot of communication that would have to go on.
32:39But you're thinking about it.
32:40Okay.
32:40The one thing you can't do is throw away a fantastic performance here second.
32:44And then you have Ferez sitting 4-2-4 versus the French who are now one DNF.
32:49Don't make a great situation into a bad one.
32:52So I'm not saying that determined his effort level here.
32:55But if he knew I bet he wouldn't take as much risk.
32:57I would suggest that he knows Valan is out.
33:00Because they are the team to beat.
33:03They're at home.
33:04They've won here the last couple of times we've been here.
33:08And you just want to beat the home team.
33:11So if you sit there and go, well, their one rider is out.
33:15You already know then that the pressure is on as a rider.
33:18They also, you know, France need to get everything out of it.
33:22Tell you what, some great on board action here.
33:25Talvikou and Panza. Panza just passing.
33:28Talvikou.
33:28These two a little bit back and forth at the moment as they fight over that 5th and 6th place.
33:33Talvikou here now in 6th position.
33:35Jan Panza.
33:36Team Slovenia finished 5th last year with Tim Geiser.
33:38No Tim Geiser this weekend.
33:40But there is the 37 of the Estonian.
33:44Jorgen Matthias-Talvikou popping up onto the top end of the circuit.
33:48But they're behind Ferez around about 9 seconds.
33:51Ferez going in the opposite direction, launching downhill.
33:53That's what that gap looks like.
33:56See how deep those ruts are as well.
33:58Oh yeah, track's starting to go away here.
33:59But every time I watch Panza, I'm so impressed with his ability.
34:02You know, I truly think he is a factory level rider talent.
34:05You know, there's only so many rides to go around.
34:07But you watch him ride and he absolutely looks the part.
34:11This was him getting past the moment to go.
34:13And then, of course, just getting threaded by there.
34:16Look at Panza going between two of the riders.
34:21Great ride that from Panza.
34:22But the Estonian did leave the door open for him to be able to make that move.
34:26It always looks like his pants are down.
34:28I don't know if that's just the optical illusion of the way the cut of the pants is there.
34:32But every time I see him, I think his pants are falling down.
34:36I'm not even trying to make a pants joke.
34:38You got the joke in there.
34:39I get it.
34:40I get it.
34:40No, no.
34:41I really wasn't trying to.
34:42I've been thinking about that all weekend.
34:43Pants are on fire.
34:44Pants are down.
34:47Pants are on it.
34:51We'll give you that.
34:52Don't worry.
34:52We'll give you that.
34:54Jet lag?
34:55No, you tell me when he goes by.
34:57I think it's maybe just where the black section of the pant is.
35:00But it looks like they're coming down all the time.
35:02All right.
35:04I wasn't in the habit of looking.
35:06But, you know, now, now I've got to.
35:08Well, that's all Talbicu can see.
35:12All right.
35:13Just under five minutes plus two to go.
35:15Let's have a closer look, shall we?
35:16Yeah, it looks like the shirt's hanging out.
35:18Maybe there's a little bit of flesh hanging out there.
35:20There you go.
35:21The bare face cheek of it.
35:23Anyway, here's Romain Fevre.
35:2611 and a half seconds.
35:27He's exactly where he wants to be, but not exactly where France want to be overall in the great scheme
35:31of things.
35:31You want a little bit of leeway, don't you?
35:33To just alleviate some of that pressure late on in the afternoon if necessary.
35:37They're not getting that because their second rider, Matisse Wallin, who was seventh on the opening lap, fell on that
35:43long downhill.
35:44Just jumped too far to the outside of the track limits and just got caught up in a whole world
35:49of nonsense.
35:50Went cartwheeling down.
35:52He's a little bit battered and bruised, but nothing is sore.
35:55And the bike was also a little bit secondhand.
35:57So obviously going back, get some physio.
36:00And that's just the motorcycle.
36:04And this is what happened if you're just joining us now.
36:07So Fevre leading the way.
36:08Matisse Wallin just jumped too far to the outside, landed off track and then just caught a few things here
36:14and there.
36:15He went cartwheeling, so did the motorcycle.
36:19And of course, we were all wondering, will he get back up?
36:23He did get back up.
36:25But that there was a feeling of, I think I may have just let the country down here.
36:32But hopefully not.
36:33That's what he's also thinking.
36:35How long has this guy been doing exactly what we're watching here?
36:38Oh!
36:39Not making mistakes.
36:40Not making mistakes.
36:41Everything else.
36:42That was a big moment there.
36:44He just came in hot, didn't he?
36:45And too much front break.
36:47Could have had a moment because that's a steep downhill there as well.
36:50So you go down.
36:51He's had two jabs now.
36:54Big get off there or big let off for the number seven, Roman Fevre.
36:57How long has he been doing this?
36:59Yeah, not trying to jinx him, but he's 35 years old.
37:01Yep.
37:02He's been winning races like this for two decades.
37:05Yeah.
37:06Just look at that.
37:07Just came in too hot.
37:08Back end was maybe in a different rut and then it kind of folded on him.
37:12Yeah, he's getting on there, isn't he?
37:14I remember him when he was in the MX 250, sort of like 2012-13, you know, 2012,
37:20fighting with Dylan Ferrandez for the title.
37:24Of course, he got moved into MX2 and then finished third in the World Championship in 2014.
37:32Turned 23 on New Year's Eve, which meant he couldn't ride MX2 the following year.
37:37And you think just as he's finding his feet, got himself a third.
37:40He's won a GP.
37:41He's won a race.
37:42You've got to put him on a 450.
37:43Guess what?
37:43He goes out and wins MXGP World Championship first time out.
37:47Guillaume Ferez here in fourth place.
37:48Spain continued to lead the way by ten points here.
37:52They're on six.
37:53Belgium on 16 as it stands right now.
37:56Oh, Kitchen with an issue.
37:59Has he been down on the left side?
38:00Yeah, he's been down, yeah.
38:01See the left hand guard down.
38:03Yeah, handlebar is absolutely completely destroyed.
38:05Can he continue for the next minute and 50-plus two laps?
38:09He's trying to ride around it, but he's off the side of the track.
38:14And I don't know if that was a big moment for him or whatever, but he's trying to stay off
38:18the racing line here and out of the way.
38:21But those bars are so far sort of north-east, south-west.
38:26Yeah, that left side of the handlebar is bent straight down.
38:29Especially on a track like this where the ruts and you have to be able to steer.
38:32Not an easy thing here.
38:33Let alone if he's injured on top of it.
38:36He just been coming out of that long uphill left.
38:40Massive high side and then went down.
38:43That's all it could have been.
38:44Either lost the front or the rear, but both of them eventually.
38:50So he was just behind McClellan.
38:51This corner right there.
38:52Yeah, yeah.
38:52And if he's ended up on that jump face, that's baked hard as well.
38:56So those bars would have taken a massive twist in.
38:59You got to think the high side to slap him down.
39:01The way just body language, he looks like he's in pain.
39:03If he lost low side there, probably wouldn't look like that.
39:05And also bike damage wouldn't be as dramatic as that.
39:09So more incident then involving another MX2 rider.
39:12So Valan out.
39:13And Levi Kitchen, Team USA, he's dropping down the leaderboard as it stands right now.
39:19But the team will just tell him, just try and finish.
39:21This is Talvikou here.
39:25And McClellan.
39:28McClellan trying to get up the inside.
39:29Will he find his way past on the plateau?
39:32Be a power differential.
39:34450 to 250.
39:35Talvikou just hanging on at the moment to that sixth position.
39:39McClellan needing another point for South Africa.
39:40around the outside here.
39:46Oh, he does get squeezed to the outside.
39:50Talvikou was brave there as well.
39:52Don't often see somebody squeezed from the outside.
39:55No.
39:56And there's not a lot of track limits there as well, as we know from Valan earlier.
40:01So McClellan up to sixth with three laps to go.
40:06Got it.
40:06Not a shame.
40:11Ferratto trying to insert himself into the fight here.
40:14This has been impressive from Malvi Ferratto for Team Italy.
40:17He's looking at eighth place at the moment.
40:19But if he can find it, find his way past Talvikou and McLennan.
40:22that'll be a top six he was on the podium here when he last rode for italy at this place
40:26him
40:26bonacorsi and andrea adamo got frucho zanke hit with him this time around though and zanke down
40:32in 17th place at the moment just behind jeremy siwa back see was just found his way past taylor
40:39hamel in 16th for team gb gb in 11th place at the moment with 16th and 24th so 24th for
40:46ben musto
40:4625 points and ferrato does nip up the inside there finds his way past talviku right at the top of
40:53the
40:53hill ferrato now in the seventh place
41:00it's left-hander where kitchen had gone down see how hard it's getting and slippery there and stony as
41:06well is he still circulating kitchen let's just have a quick look on our leaderboard
41:14he's being shown as 25th at the moment he went through sector three a moment ago
41:18i think the team talk would have been no matter what if you can finish just bring it home it's
41:22better to have you know if he finishes 25th or 26 throw that away rather than an absolute zero
41:28gives you a little bit more of a chance
41:34for rato there's a back marker here ferrato up the inside but mcclellan and he forces his way down
41:41there down the inside i tell you what mcclellan didn't even know that was coming did he and i
41:45don't know if there was a slight tip there as well that almost sort of uh put him on his
41:50ear
41:51two of the bigger guys in mx2 and mxgp that would have been a big collision
41:57he'll be disappointed to have lost that place as well with just over two laps to go
42:01but albi ferrato
42:03now up into sixth position what a ride this has been where's bomair actually he's now in 10th place
42:09four seconds down on van der moste watch this here we had the mx2 rider there
42:17from brazil just holding up that inside didn't stop ferrato going through
42:23though i think mcclellan just had to check up there in the end
42:31good race good solid race this for italy good race for south africa to be fair as well but
42:36where's the second rider he's in 34th place yeah the belgians are sitting 12th we haven't
42:42talked about sasha kunin one time haven't seen him on screen he's running around in 12th respectable
42:47but it's it has them sitting and i know these points are going to change a hundred times throughout
42:51the afternoon but sitting second so bad yeah fevere leads away then prado second so uh and kunin third
43:01three 450s three mxgp riders france spain belgium ferez of spain is fourth he's the lead mx2 rider
43:07so france sorry spain on six points a second and a fourth place finish for those two as it stands
43:13right now panza of slovenia is in fifth on a 450 ferrato the italian on a 450 and mxgp he
43:19is six just
43:20found his way past the second of the mx2 riders camden mcclellan we've got talviku manamosteik
43:25beaumair and beaten all on mxg machines the third of the 250s is sasha kunin in 12th and then we've
43:32got
43:32carlis raceless of uh of latvia colden off of the netherlands sea with switzerland hamel for gb
43:37fredzo denmark skogberg his teammate tom cock of germany and janice raceless of latvia i thought
43:42latvia would probably have an outside chance of a podium of course it's not over until we get to the
43:46final
43:47race anyway so it just depends what numbers we're going to be throwing away later on but we are into
43:51the final lap and roman fevre the roar of the crowd as fevre who has been in this position several
43:58times
43:59before in and around this racetrack alone and he is gonna do what he's done so many times before
44:07he was victorious here we went one here we went one one here in 15 in the season that he
44:12won the
44:12championship in mxgp got a race win last time out as well in 23 i believe he had that fantastic
44:18battle in race one with jorge prado but he came out on top clutch in panic rev there just to
44:23let the
44:24back marker know which is the uh 26 of jones raceless the 250 rider for latvia
44:31but he got his way to the front of the field after that mistake
44:35from jorge prado prado looked like he was going to get the gap down got it to around about seven
44:40something but then all of a sudden there was a turn of speed from fevre and maybe at the same
44:43time
44:44as well the spanish put the pit board out to say they're only down to one because van an is
44:47out who
44:48knows we will never know at the moment until maybe later on in the day either way that is a
44:54great sight
44:56fevre saluting as he makes his way towards a chequered flag in front of the home fans
45:04and it's a cruisy victory for roman fevre and team france in this first race roman fevre wins race one
45:11here and earn a
45:15i don't know if they've told him
45:18the team may not have told him that he's uh a man down yeah i was wondering if he would
45:22have seen
45:23him coming around after the first lap on the side of the racetrack there right let's see
45:28he's like sipping tea just looking at some of the moments here
45:34should be riding for gb guys timeless though it's so impressive
45:42see prado in the foreground there yeah a little frustrated with himself but look at the points
45:47no need to be frustrated so roman favre wins race one for team france prado spain second belgium's lucas
45:54coon and third ferez spain fourth spain lead going into race two
46:01enjoy the moment soak it up roman fevre
46:06you just never know how many more of these occasions you get i mean this was exactly the
46:10same scene after race one in 2023 exactly the same fevre wins prado second fevre celebrates french
46:17fans go crazy let's not forget it's his last ride on the cowie yeah see auntie there team manager
46:24celebrating with them big moment for france with roman fevre winning big moment with valand
46:31falling out on lap one of seventh position could have been france leading at the top of the uh
46:37standings but it's spain with a second and a fourth with prado and ferez
46:44but so far the fans over there they're jubilant because they've had a race winner but they also maybe
46:50don't know the full situation with mattis valand at the moment we do got your paul and said he's okay
46:55okay a little bit beat up of course he is because of the crash but the bike it was damaged
46:59which is
46:59why he couldn't continue the race but now he's got a big race ahead of him in race two his
47:05final race of
47:06the afternoon has mattis valand right everybody over the line
47:15slate smith cruising down the hill there for south africa smith goes through in 34th position
47:22his teammate camden mcclellan second mx2 rider coming home in seventh place
47:29interesting race challenging race for some but not for spain spain lead the way on six belgium 15
47:40the netherlands on 23 australia 32 the defending champions latvia are fifth on 33 team usa are
47:48six denmark seven switzerland eight italy nine great britain they're in 10th place france are
47:54in 11th make a note of that at the moment with a one and a 40 they'll be hoping to
47:59throw away that 40
48:00of valand let's go down to lisa she is with our race one winner roman fevre another win here on
48:07home soil
48:12roman fevre a great job out there you exactly where you needed to be when prado went down were you
48:17aware
48:17that your teammate was out of the race uh you still have to dig in deep for the rest of
48:21the day
48:21uh no i didn't know uh no i didn't know so it's a shame uh for matisse uh but yeah
48:28that's that's nation
48:29it's like this uh luckily for us at the moment we have a joker let's say we can take one
48:35race off
48:36the result so that will be our joker and uh now we need to perform high and uh to be
48:41consistent
48:43two more to go so uh but yeah enjoying so much this is unbelievable uh to win again at nation
48:49like this it's
48:50uh just crazy so i'm uh i'm leaving that moment like uh full full and um yeah we try to
48:57win uh the
48:58next one great job thank you
49:06that's the thing you just never know how many opportunities you get to ride for your country
49:10let alone win in front of your home crowd at a home nations roman fevre soaking it up enjoying the
49:16occasion here and he didn't know that matisse valand had gone down it was just a performance
49:21where he just knew he had to get to the front and that's exactly what he did he took the
49:25win
49:25took the advantage when it was presented to him roman fevre your winner in race one
49:34give him the results then shall we uh jt impressive performance from roman fevre
49:38hoge prado making a mistake a rare error for him he'll be coming back fighting in the third race of
49:44the day
49:44yeah and for fevre it's it's unbelievable that he continues to be on this form but for prado
49:48he could have just gotten beaten straight up so yes mistake but even if fevre had bested him still
49:54they go two four what a fantastic spot for spain so roman fevre wins race one from jorge prado lucas
49:59kunin and gian ferez spain with two riders inside the top four positions a two and a four that'll give
50:04them a six points and a massive lead going into race two the unpanse for slovenia was there in fifth
50:09head of italy's ferrato kemna mcclellan for south africa and jorge mateys talviku who was running
50:14fifth for a while he eventually dropped to eighth still a good result for the estonian the netherlands
50:18lead rider was roman amostike ahead of julian beaumair the american he was the lead american in the end
50:24after levi kitchen fell from seventh place towards the end of the race he was able to uh well i
50:31think he
50:31may have brought it home we'll see in a moment but fredso nikolai scoffer cock graceless
50:35uh larwood guillaume musto and kalemo
50:41and kitchen actually did finish just outside the top 20 so uh that is kind of a blessing in
50:49disguise really in 25th position spain lead the way though look on six points belgium on 15 the
50:55netherlands on 23 they're in a podium position as it stands right now and we've got australia the
50:59training champions there in fourth head of latvia usa denmark and switzerland
51:06italy and great britain are next and then france on 41 but as roman fever just said because he had
51:12a one and valand had that 40 that's why they got 41 points they've got a joker they can hopefully
51:16throw
51:17that away a lot depends on the fitness and the uh the sort of mental approach from mattis valand after
51:23that big crash well valand and for levi kitchen both of them they've got a turn and burn here for
51:27for a
51:27race two take a look at the highlights of the race then
51:33the 79th edition edition of the monster energy fi motocross the nations burst into life here with mxgp
51:38and mx2 race one of the afternoon at erne isaac gifting with the foxhole shot roman fevre for
51:46france for exactly where he wanted to be there but then spain's jorge prado got around the outside snuck up
51:50the inside of the frenchman he wasn't done there either a couple of corners later went the outside
51:54of gifting then he got tagged and got dragged down and ran over and lost that position mattis valand
52:03fell spectacularly from seventh the second rider of france all of a sudden roman fevre is down to
52:08just hit just him in the results valand is okay he will line up for race two prado then fell
52:14from the
52:15lead as fevre was closing in on him he then inherited the lead and went on to win comfortably
52:20but the roar of the crowd tells you all you need to know levi kitchen of the usa he was
52:24the lead rider
52:25in around sixth or seventh place he then fell he eventually was classified as 25th julian beau
52:32mayor his teammate was 10th the italian albi ferrato charged down the inside of camden mcclellan to give
52:39himself a fighting chance put himself into six fevre was already celebrating on the final downhill and
52:44uphill and it was fevre who was victorious by nearly 10 seconds over prado kunan ferez panza ferrato
52:51mcclellan talviku manamostike and beau mayor
52:59let's take a look at the foxhole shot then
53:04jt how important is this first corner here because it's quite wide going in but very narrow coming out
53:10looks like it may have been isaac gifting yeah gifting grabs it there but yeah this the starts
53:14are super critical but we've seen the starts can come from anywhere so that that's a great thing
53:19for the racing if you don't have to be on the inside he's already changed
53:23isaac gifting jk racing yamaha then gets the first 1000 euro check for crossing the foxhole shot line
53:30will he do it again when he lines up later on in race three who knows stay tuned of course
53:40just uh fill you in when our uh next race goes live for uh mx2 and open that will be
53:462 30.
53:48so not long from now just uh 35 minutes let's take a look at some of those best moments from
53:53that first race and jt some big uh big moments in the race and some uh not so big as
53:59well yeah it's uh
54:00uh it's chaos it's always chaos at this race you think you know what's going to happen and then you
54:04are proven so wrong so quickly give res the new world champion looking very relaxed down there
54:10tony cairoli and adamo he's going out in the next race of course for italy
54:17but the celebrations began the fireworks took place not just there for the presentation but also out on
54:25track as well a couple of riders just getting caught towards the back end in that first turn but it
54:29was all action up front borge prado roma febvre lucas kunin gian ferez but spain leading the way as
54:36we head into race two this moment here from matis valand the big talking point if you're a french fan
54:43it's a big point if you're a neutral as well but props to borge prado even bigger ones to roma
54:49febvre
54:50yeah yeah unbelievable it's what we expected you know like i think the top two and the best two in
54:55the race finished the top two well we are going to take a break and uh if you stay with
55:01us in just a
55:02few moments time uh ben's doing his uh thing from the paddock walking around the paddock and chatting to
55:08uh various people so uh stay tuned for ben but uh 2 30 jt and i will be back 35
55:14minutes from now
55:14with the second race of the afternoon mx2 and open we'll see you then bye for now
