Meta’s smart glasses may be heading toward a camera-free version, and that shift could change how people think about wearable tech. The discussion centers on reported plans for a new model called Luna, with the idea that removing the camera could ease privacy concerns while also leaving more room for better audio and a cleaner display design.

The episode also covers a possible OpenAI and Anthropic cross-testing deal, where each company would get API access to the other’s commercial models for independent stress tests and safety checks. From there, the conversation turns to Tesla’s robotaxi fleet in Austin, where the active number of vehicles dropped after a launch spike, raising questions about demand, technical performance, and how quickly autonomous ride-hailing can scale.

This is a weekly tech news recap with commentary on AI safety, smart glasses, autonomous vehicles, and the future of consumer technology. It’s a useful listen for viewers following Meta glasses, OpenAI vs Anthropic, Tesla robotaxi news, and current affairs in tech and innovation.

00:00Hello everybody and welcome to our weekly news recap. We have some really interesting stories
00:04today. This first one was really interesting although the title of this article I think is
00:08quite funny but it is accurate. It says Meta reportedly creating glasses without cameras
00:13after pervert uproar. If you did not know Meta glasses have cameras in them which allow people
00:18to record things around them. This is well known and when people are recording there's supposed to
00:22be this little red light but a lot of people pay to have that red light taken off so people
00:28don't
00:29know when they're actually recording. This has caused a lot of issues over the years because
00:33people don't like people recording them without their knowledge and it's really easy to just pay
00:38somebody to get this taken care of or you can follow a tutorial online and you can get that red
00:43light taken off. It says right here according to reporting from the information Meta wants to begin
00:48selling the new glasses called Luna in October and could introduce the new devices at its Connect
00:54Developer Conference next week. This conference is scheduled for September 23rd and 24th and will be
01:00live streamed so that could be as early as today. I think this is an extremely intentional move
01:05considering that a lot of people will not buy them anymore or a lot of people like look down on
01:10people
01:11who have them because they're called pervert glasses. I think having the option to have the camera
01:15or not have the camera is a really good idea. If you don't have the camera it's going to leave
01:18a lot
01:19more room within the actual glasses themselves to fit more things. Probably better audio as well as
01:24just the interface on the actual lens. They have more room to make it look better. With that being
01:29said they could announce that as soon as today. If they do I'll be talking about that next week.
01:34Let's move on to our next story. It says right here OpenAI Ananthropic way cross-testing deal as AI
01:40safety concerns grow. It says right here according to a report by the information the proposed arrangement
01:45would give OpenAI and Ananthropic API access to each other's commercial models so that they conduct
01:51independent stress tests. The companies would agree not to retain data obtained during the testing
01:56process. Here's what this arrangement would look like. First OpenAI and Ananthropic would receive
02:00API access to each other's commercially available models. The companies would use that access to look
02:04for safety vulnerabilities and unexpected behaviors. Neither side would retain the other's company data
02:10collected during the testing and the arrangement would provide another layer of scrutiny alongside
02:14internal and independent evaluations. This actually isn't something as new. They did this back in
02:19August of 2025 and tried to kind of sketch out a deal for this but it never fully went into
02:25place.
02:25Now that it looks like they are revisiting this and it may actually happen. I think that this is just
02:29a really interesting thing in general that these companies are doing this by themselves right. The
02:35government isn't forcing them to do it but they see a need for it and they are doing it. Does
02:39this mean
02:40that they're doing it for like really altruistic reasons? Probably not. They just don't want either
02:46one to get so far ahead that they can't copy it or stay competitive and they're not sure which one
02:50is
02:51kind of kind of take the lead in this front and sort of saying hey let's hedge our bets and
02:55sign
02:55this agreement so we can check each other's models. This most likely will just keep them near the same
03:00level with the actual capability of their models. For the last several weeks we've been talking about how
03:04I think that the government should really step in but that the government is really slow to action
03:09in the U.S. They're just they like to take their time in like five years they'll make one law
03:14and
03:14they'll be like man we really should have done this five years ago. So it's just interesting that
03:18companies are starting to self-regulate as it pertains to AI. Our last story of the day is that
03:23Tesla's active robo taxi fleet in Austin crashes back to eight vehicles after cyber cab pump. It says
03:29right here that Tesla held a cyber cab launch event in Austin on September 3rd and invited a wave of
03:34supporters and Tesla influencers to ride the steering wheel free vehicle and for a few days X was full of
03:41first ride videos. That in general just does not surprise me because they're going to invite everyone
03:45out they want videos all over the place but once those influencers actually leave and go home because
03:51they don't live in Austin then the demand is going to go down dramatically. The tracker data shows
03:56exactly what that looked like. The number of unique Tesla robo taxis actually seen carrying riders in
04:01Austin spiked past 100 in early September up from the 20 to 40 range it had been stuck at for
04:06most
04:06of the year. This is the graph that they're talking about from June 21st 2025. Right around here is
04:12September this is a couple weeks ago there's this huge spike and then it goes dramatically down. I'll have
04:17a link to this article but basically it talks about the difference between registered vehicles and active
04:21ones where they have about 476 registered vehicles but over the last seven days only eight of them were
04:28actually carrying passengers. There could be several reasons for this but one of them could be technical
04:33in which case the cyber cab just isn't working exactly as they are wanting. It took about a 10 minute
04:38trip
04:39into a 70 minute detour and of course once all those influencers actually left the city there's not
04:44going to be as much demand. With that being said Tesla's still registering a ton more of these cyber cabs
04:49within the
04:50DMV in Texas. So it doesn't look like they're going to be slowing down at any point. I really can
04:54see this
04:55in like 20 or 30 years being kind of the go-to thing in almost every metropolitan area. Elon Musk
05:01just in
05:02general is no stranger to setbacks and he has been known to push through and overcome almost every
05:06obstacle that's been thrown in his way. So it would not surprise me if this is just a small blip
05:12on the
05:12radar. It's just really interesting especially after they had that big press conference and that big
05:16announcement and launch. With that being said that's all we have for this week. If Meta actually
05:21does make that announcement either yesterday or today because I'm recording this on Wednesday it
05:25goes out Thursday. If they make that announcement I'll talk a little bit more about it when we have
05:29more information. If we get to actually see what it looks like and what technology they're going to
05:32replace those cameras with within the actual glasses themselves. I myself am in the market for some
05:38new glasses. I just posted on I guess LinkedIn and X and YouTube saying hey people vote and I will
05:44buy
05:45these different types of glasses. If Apple were to actually come out with some smart glasses I think
05:50I would get those purely because I'm part of the you know Apple ecosystem. I have a MacBook and I
05:55use
05:56an iPhone and so I'm in that world. I would definitely try them out and get some prescription
06:01lenses in there because I don't have the best eyesight. But with the Meta ones I'm not so sure. I'm
06:06not as
06:06invested just with Meta products in general. That's all we have for today. If you like this video be sure
06:12to like and subscribe and I will see you next week.
