A jar of pickled peperoncini has been recalled after a customer shared a disturbing discovery on social media.

G.L. Mezzetta Inc. recalled one specific lot of its Mezzetta Golden Greek Peperoncini Medium Heat, 32-ounce jars after a woman posted a video showing what appeared to be a dead baby mouse inside the product.

The video first appeared online on September 16. In the clip, the woman explained that she discovered the object while preparing the peppers for dinner.

“There’s a dead baby mouse in my peperoncinis,” she said while showing the jar.

She then revealed that she had already handled and tasted the product before noticing what was inside.

“Found out after I already licked my fingers,” she said.

The recall affects lot 720106 with SKU 10106328. The company said no other Mezzetta products or lots are included.

Mezzetta said it contacted customers who purchased products from the same batch and is working to remove the affected products from sale. The company is also trying to obtain the original jar for examination.

No illnesses or injuries have been reported. Consumers with the affected lot are urged not to eat it and to contact Mezzetta for assistance.
