00:02Upgrades for the volunteer brigades, as the government hands out seven new grass fire
00:07units to the tune of $1.4 million.
00:12And these new trucks, which four of them are right here behind us, are going to be handed
00:15out into our volunteer brigades to make sure they can protect the rural lifestyle and the
00:20property and assets right around the Northern Territory.
00:23Hoping to ease the hardship of a devastating fire season, which has already seen 500 fire
00:28incidents across the Territory.
00:30You've got fires right across the rural area, and you're wondering, you're at work or if
00:34you're away, you're wondering about your property, you're wondering about your animals, and that
00:37stress is really, really hard.
00:40The new vehicles handed over today aren't an expansion of the bushfire's NT fleet, but
00:44rather are set to replace some of the more outdated vehicles, a few of which have been in operation
00:48for more than 20 years.
00:50But with the bushfire threat set to remain in the top end until at least November, and
00:55the Central Australian fire season about to start, the new trucks could find themselves
00:59in the firing line any day now.
01:01Central Australia is potentially leading into a large and dangerous fire season at the moment
01:05with the amount of growth and fuel that's in that area.
01:08Bushfires is preparing for what we need to do in terms of moving our staff and assets,
01:14dynamically deploying them to actually meet the need as the fire risk progresses.
01:20Protecting properties and their protectors.
