00:01I had so much admiration for Curlin when I was young and just so grateful to be
00:06able to spend the years that I have you know with him. And so to now you know be
00:13a part of Good Magic's career and be here with him as he kind of takes over
00:17something I'm gonna tell my kids and grandkids about.
00:36I was working at Lane's Inn as a teenager mainly with yearlings and mares but I got
00:41to work in the evenings in the breeding shed so that was the first place that I
00:45got to see Curlin. I was much more intimidated by him back then when I was
00:4918. He's still pretty intimidating don't get me wrong it was just so special and
00:52then you know getting to come and work with him you know full-time I was I was
00:56so excited when I saw that he was on the roster at Hillendale that sealed the
01:00deal for me. I've been here for eight years now I've been a stallion manager for
01:04the past four he's just been such a special horse and first horse to make
01:08ten million dollars. He's a show-off you know he's very proud of himself and he
01:14can be a handful when he wants to. Anytime anybody walks in the barn that he
01:18doesn't recognize he expects something you know it's like you got to pay the
01:22tax when you come in here you got to give him a peppermint or a carrot or or
01:26something. He's the stallion of my lifetime. In 2022 when he had the three
01:32Breeders' Cup winners you know he was the first stallion to accomplish that so
01:35that kind of put him on his own level. You know there's always horses to root
01:38for too every year you know horses like Golden Tempo you know when you have
01:42curling around there's no shortage of good horses to pull for every year. So I
01:46started here the first year that Good Magic stood here. I don't remember where I
01:50watched his Breeders' Cup. I think I bet on him just because he was the son of Curlin.
01:54He's gonna do it in the Breeders' Cup Juvenile under Jose Ortiz. He won it by five and a half
02:00lids.
02:01You know I've been through eight breeding seasons with him and you know we've done a
02:05lot together and been spent a lot of time together in the shed in there so I feel
02:10like I know him better than I know I've known any animal and most people in my
02:14life. Physically you can find some similarities in them but personality-wise it
02:18would take me all day to think of anything they have in common other than
02:21both of them being pretty spoiled. Curlin's a lot more in your face you know
02:26kind of dominant. He doesn't know you, he will test you. You know Good Magic I could
02:31send you know my mother in there who doesn't work with horses and I'm pretty
02:34confident she could put a halter on him and get him tied to the wall. Good Magic's
02:37just very loving and friendly and loves attention.
02:52When you first meet them it's a lot of shock and awe and you feel a lot of
02:57pressure and you might be nervous around them but when you get to know their
03:01personalities and you get to know them as individuals you know we don't really
03:04come in here and see oh this is Curlin the Breeders' Cup winner this is Good Magic
03:07the Breeders' Cup Juvenile winner. Just something that we don't take for granted
03:10because we know there's not very many people that get to do what we do.
