00:26We are sitting on a multi-billion dollar reserve in this state.
00:31And if this is not the time that you tap into the rainy day fund,
00:35I don't know when you do it.
00:36So it should have been done a very long time ago.
00:39A new fuel shock is hitting America.
00:42And this time, the number flashing at the pump is getting dangerously close to $7 a gallon.
00:49The US national average for diesel has reached a record high of nearly $6.27.
00:55per gallon.
00:57And in California, some drivers are seeing something even more startling.

01:06This comes just days after the national average first crossed the $6 mark,
01:11showing just how quickly prices are moving.
01:14According to AAA, the national average reached $6.27 on September 15th, a new record.
01:22But the price shock is not stopping at the gas station.
01:26Diesel is the fuel that powers a huge part of America's transportation system.
01:31Trucks use it to move food, supplies, manufactured goods, and other products across the country.
01:38So when diesel gets more expensive, the cost of moving those products can rise too.
01:43And that is where the fuel crisis can turn into an inflation problem.
01:48Former Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene is now putting the issue directly on President Donald Trump.
01:55In a video filmed at a California gas station, Greene pointed to a diesel price of $8.49.
02:02She then compared it with $6.59 in Georgia and called both prices ridiculous.
02:09Greene also argued that Americans eventually feel higher diesel prices
02:14through the cost of everyday goods.
02:16She specifically linked the surge to the war involving Iran and said,
02:21this is Trump's fault.
02:23Her comments have added a political dimension to an already growing economic problem.
02:29But what is actually driving diesel prices?
02:32The current surge is being linked to a combination of factors.
02:36The war involving Iran has disrupted major energy shipping routes,
02:40while global supplies of refined diesel and gas oil have also come under pressure.
02:46At the same time, attacks affecting Russian refining infrastructure
02:50have tightened the international fuel market.
02:53Industry analysts say the diesel and gas oil markets are now extremely tight.
02:59And there is another important point.
03:01The $8.49 figure Greene showed was a California pump price, not the national American average.
03:09California's fuel market has its own taxes, regulations and supply conditions,
03:15which can make prices significantly higher than the national figure.
03:19So while $8.49 is not what every American is paying,
03:24the national record of nearly $6.27 is real.
03:28And the bigger concern is what happens next.
03:31If diesel stays at these levels, trucking costs can remain elevated.
03:36businesses can face higher transportation expenses,
03:39and consumers could eventually see those costs reflected in the prices of goods.
03:45For now, the message from the pump is clear.
03:48America's diesel crisis is no longer just an energy story.
03:52It is becoming an economic story, and increasingly a political one.
