00:20Trump doesn't worry about rogue AI, but the American people certainly do.
00:24So do cybersecurity experts, and even many of the people who are building this technology.
00:31Everybody who knows anything about it worries about rogue AI.
00:36Not Donald Trump, keeps his head in the sand like an ostrich, doesn't pay any attention
00:41to the facts, and just says whatever pops into his head, no matter how harmful it is.
00:49So when Trump meets with various AI industry leaders at the White House today, he ought
00:54to stop resisting the growing consensus that we need real guardrails to mitigate AI's risk.
01:01Trump's meeting at the White House will be a flop, a failure, an utter failure if they
01:06don't propose and start talking about and starting to come to an agreement about some
01:13real guardrails that need to be done.
01:15And of course he should consult those of us in Congress who believe we need stronger guardrails.
01:21Dismissing the potential dangers of AI as a hoax, as Trump has done over and over and
01:28over again, won't protect the American people.
01:31The Senate GOP's response to AI risk has been almost as meek as Trump's.
01:36Americans are demanding real guardrails on AI and data centers, but all the Republicans
01:41offer is a toothless messaging bill.
01:44The bill is a fraud.
01:47I can sum up the short comes of the Republican data center bill with one word, optional.
01:53The bill is optional.
01:55America, you hear that?
01:57Here we need some real action on data centers.
02:00And what does the Republican center from Ohio come up with?
02:03Something that is optional.
02:04It's up to the companies to decide.
02:08Well they're the ones that need the guardrails.
02:11Optional.
02:12Optional requirements in his bill on data center developing.
02:16Optional standards for safety against catastrophic risk.
02:20Optional enforcement to protect the American people.
02:24A guardrail that is optional isn't a guardrail at all.
02:29At a time when Americans are calling out for real guardrails on AI, Senate Republicans are
02:35trying to secure an ineffectual participation trophy before they skip town.
02:41Instead of trying to score cheap political points with hollow proposals, Senate Republicans
02:46need to work with us to take meaningful action that will actually contain these existential
02:52risks.
02:53They're not doing that.
02:54And American people are in real danger because of their failure to act.
