00:02Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth is set to announce another round of cuts to the military's top
00:08ranks today. The Pentagon plans to cut 20 percent of the positions reserved for generals and
00:13admirals, according to multiple reports. That doubles the overall 10 percent reduction Hegseth
00:19ordered last year, part of his push to streamline the military's senior ranks. At the time,
00:25Hegseth said the cuts were needed to drive innovation and operational excellence, arguing
00:30that quote unnecessary bureaucratic layers were hurting the military's effectiveness. As of July,
00:36there were 851 active-duty generals and admirals across the Army, Navy, Marine Corps, Air Force,
00:42and Space Force. The new cuts are expected to be completed by January 1st. Hegseth is set to lay
00:48out the plan during his State of the Force address at 3 p.m. Eastern at Marine Corps Base Quantico
00:54in Virginia.
