Jamal Jackfruit hasn’t missed a day of work in twelve years, and he’s proud of it.
He runs a busy auto repair shop where employees and customers depend on him. But when his 12-year-old daughter Jada asks whether he’ll attend her school performance, Jamal gives her an answer she knows all too well:
“I’ll try.”
“You always say next time.”
When Jamal tells Oliver Orange about his perfect attendance record, Oliver asks one simple question:
“How many of hers have you missed?”
Jamal eventually realizes that being dependable doesn’t mean making yourself indispensable. He has spent years training his team. Now he has to trust them.
And this time, when Jada looks into the audience, Dad is there.
