After his father dies, Darius Fig becomes increasingly protective of his widowed mother. He brings groceries, offers rides and uses his spare key to enter her home because he wants to make sure she’s okay.
But Mrs. Fig doesn’t want her son making every decision for her.
When Oliver Orange talks with them separately, he discovers that Darius isn’t trying to control his mother. He’s afraid that without his father around, something could happen to her.
Mrs. Fig admits she does need help with some things. What she doesn’t want to lose is the ability to decide which things.
Eventually Darius returns to his mother’s front door, reaches instinctively for his spare key… and stops.
This time, he knocks.
