00:02In this video, I'm going to show you how to make a PDF file smaller without
00:06losing quality for free.

00:13So as you can see here, I have an example PDF file and it is currently
00:172.4 megabytes large.
00:19The tool that I'm going to use to compress it for free is going to be pdfgadget.com.
00:24Full disclosure, I made pdfgadget.com because I want to be able to recommend
00:27a tool that does not require you to upload your PDF files to a server.
00:31So all the tools on this website work directly in the browser on your computer,
00:35phone, Chromebook, anything like that completely for free.
00:39Check the description of the link down there.
00:41Once you get to pdfgadget.com in the top menu, you can just select compress PDFs.
00:46And then all we need to do is either drag our files here or just select it
00:49and then select the PDF file that you want to compress.
00:55It'll then bring up the PDF with the current size and then we can see estimated savings.
01:00So this will tell you how many pages, how many images were found.
01:02Now, the first thing we can do is go down to compression level and you could choose
01:06a different compression level.
01:07And as you can see, it'll change the savings that will be provided by the compressor.
01:13So as you can see, if I go to low compression level, which is best quality,
01:1610% medium, 37% savings.
01:20Additionally, you can go to advanced options and you can choose the image quality.
01:25So if you want to bring that down, it'll give you your savings more,
01:28but you will be losing image quality.
01:30So it may not look as good.
01:32You can also change the max resolution, different things like that.
01:35So I'm just going to do the medium, which is the most balanced compression level.
01:40I'll select compressed PDF.
01:42It's going to process it.
01:44And then once it's done, it's going to tell me the new size.
01:46And then I can download this PDF.
01:48It'll open it up for me.
01:50And as you can see, we have the original and then the compressed version,
01:53and it is now under two megabytes.
01:55So that's a really good compression level.
01:58And just as an example, we have the original right here,
02:00and this is the compressed.
02:02I'll scroll down so you can see a little bit more of it.
02:05And they look exactly the same.
02:08We were just able to compress it without losing image quality.
