Broadcasters choosing a live IP transmission platform are really choosing between four platform types, each built to solve a different problem. This video explains all four and how to tell which one fits.

The first type is bonded field transmission with an intelligence layer. It combines cellular, WiFi and wired links into one stream, so a weak connection lowers quality instead of cutting the broadcast, and an intelligence layer picks the best mobile operators on the fly. It is aimed at news and sports crews working in places where connectivity is uncertain.

The second type is single-path optimized transport. It relies on one well-managed connection and suits facilities with stable networks and a large existing fleet of encoders and decoders on a common open protocol. For these teams, switching platforms is a migration project, not a quick purchase.

The third and fourth types are fixed-setup bonded encoders, which transmit with minimal setup and little else, and creator-tier camera-to-cloud devices for small teams and single-camera shoots. Both work well until a growing production needs features they never offered.

The video shows why an intelligence layer earns its place when networks get crowded, like a packed stadium. LiveU's LU900Q uses its LIQ layer and eSIM technology to move between operators mid-broadcast, and the company reports roughly 30 percent more bitrate from these units at the Milan Winter Olympics.

It also covers the two things that drive return on investment: how many units are deployed, and how much of the workflow the platform carries beyond contribution into cloud production and distribution.

For proof, the video points to named deployments, including the European Broadcasting Union's five-year IP contract for the Eurovision News Exchange and the Associated Press rolling out intelligent connectivity worldwide.

The takeaway is simple: define the risk first, let existing infrastructure narrow the options, and ask every vendor for named customers running at a similar scale.
