Sen. Erwin Tulfo is seeking to give the Philippines a longer-term tourism branding strategy by proposing an official campaign slogan that would remain in use for at least 15 years.

Tulfo filed Senate Bill No. 2511, or the “Philippine Tourism Campaign Slogan Act,” which would direct the Department of Tourism (DOT), in consultation with relevant stakeholders, to formulate the country’s official tourism campaign slogan.

The Senator said frequent changes in tourism branding—from “Wow Philippines” to “It’s More Fun in the Philippines” and later “Love the Philippines”—have weakened the country’s ability to establish a consistent identity among international travelers. (Video courtesy of Senate of the Philippines)

00:00Parang tayo lang
00:02ang bansa na paiba-iba.
00:03Bawat administration, may love,
00:05may more love, may love-love,
00:08may more fun, may wow,
00:10may wow Philippines,
00:12kung ano-ano. Every time na may
00:13bagong administration, bakit ganun?
00:15Wala tayong tatakman eh.
00:17Unlike Malaysia, truly Asia.
00:20Ay, mga ganun eh, di ba?
00:22Eh, mamaya-maya. Pustahan tayo
00:24pag pumalitan ng administration, hindi na love yan.
00:26Hate ba yan, kung ano man yan.
00:28Come to the Philippines,
00:29enjoy the Philippines.
00:31Why do we change?
00:33Parang, I don't see anything
00:35wrong with wow Philippines,
00:38talagang dumami ho, tapos
00:39pinalitan, tapos
00:41papalitan, it's more fun. Ngayon, love,
00:44love the Philippines.
00:45Baka next administration na ito, come to
00:47the Philippines, mamuhay ka sa Philippines.
00:50What is going on in here?
00:52Yes, sir. I totally agree
00:54with you because we should not
00:55have really kept on changing
00:58the tagline po.
00:59So,
01:00ang una ko pong ginawa,
01:02nung dumating ako,
01:04love the Philippines,
01:05I will preserve
01:06love the Philippines po.
01:08So,
01:08kung makikita nyo po lahat
01:09ng campaign namin,
01:10it's love the Philippines.
01:12May konting,
01:12depending po
01:13anong campaign,
01:15anong season,
01:16o anong target market
01:17ang inaano namin,
01:19nagkaroon ng
01:19discover more to love.
01:21But that still emanates
01:23from the
01:23organic love
01:25the Philippines.
01:25Bakit po discover more to love?
01:27Kasi po,
01:28nung dumating kami,
01:29ako po,
01:31yung anong,
01:32there's a very
01:33sharp drop
01:34in that
01:34sentiment for travel,
01:36plus mahal pa tayo.
01:37So,
01:38sabi ko,
01:38instead of our
01:39tourism assets
01:40becoming stranded,
01:42let's launch
01:43a domestic
01:43tourism campaign.
01:45And that's what
01:45we actually did.
01:46So,
01:47love the Philippines,
01:48sa kababayan po natin,
01:50baka nakatira dito,
01:52discover more to love
01:53because we were
01:54highlighting the hidden gems.
01:56Hindi lang yung nakita nyo,
01:57hindi lang yung alam nyo,
01:58marami po pa dyan.
01:59So,
02:00still under the love
02:01of the Philippines.
02:02At hindi nila po
02:02discover Philippines.
02:04Parang ganun.
02:04Or,
02:05my next question,
02:06Secretary,
02:07do we,
02:08must we pass a law
02:09para hindi po
02:10bago-baguhin nila ito?
02:12Parang pinaglalaroan.
02:14Pag ako nung naisip
02:15ng bagong
02:16appoint na Secretary,
02:17palitan ko kaya ito
02:19dahil hindi ko gusto.
02:21Yung nakaraang
02:21Secretary,
02:22may credit nito,
02:23sasabihin.
02:24Yung susunod na
02:25DOT Secretary,
02:27itong love ni Secretary,
02:28matay hindi ko gusto ito eh.
02:30Siya ang naalala
02:30ng mga taadam
02:31at meron akong sarili.
02:34Every administration,
02:35meron tayong bago.
02:36Why don't we stick?
02:37Kailangan ba ng batas?
02:39Kasi kung kailangan,
02:40ma'am,
02:40then we'll have to
02:41file a law
02:41na huwag nyo
02:42nang pakialaman
02:43niyang branding natin
02:44kasi paiba-iba eh.
02:46Right on the bat sir,
02:48kung po pwede po,
02:49i-legislate na natin yun.
02:51Kasi anyway,
02:52maganda naman yung
02:52Love the Philippines.
02:53Kasi ang ating asset po sir,
02:55is the people
02:56are the best asset.
02:58And there's a lot of things
02:59from our caregivers overseas,
03:01from our seaman to,
03:02and then we have more here.
03:04Kasi ang hospitality
03:05ng Pilipino po
03:06at saka ang lambing,
03:08hindi mo papantayan sa ASEAN
03:09o kahit sa ibang lugar.
03:11So if we can legislate
03:12and we use
03:13Love the Philippines,
03:14I think I'm all for it sir.
